The Omicron Killer (2024)
A campy, polished, refreshing slasher gem
The Omicron Killer is full of mystery, suspense, self-awareness, smarts, and gruesome kills. This spectacle solidified that Jeff Knite has what it takes to direct horror cinema. I sometimes forget that the slasher sub-genre can rarely be "elevated horror" or master classes like Psycho (1960), Peeping Tom (1960), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Black Christmas (1974), Halloween (1978), Sleepaway Camp (1983), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Child's Play (1988), Candyman (1992), & Scream (1996). As an avid horror fan, this is the best film of 2024. This amazing mash-up of "Friday The 13th" & "Halloween" made Hallowen Ends look like amateur hour. Jeff Knite's "The Omicron Killer" deserves all of the collective praise from critics and audiences. I am thankful that we finally have a new masterpiece added to the horror library that will age like fine wine.
Jay Doggs: I Got Big Balls (2021)
Weird Al, is that you?
Jay Dogg's makes parody songs hilarious! I love the energy on this guy. You have to have big balls to make a song like this, in this day and age of political correctectness. And the music video is phenomenally done. Great job all around. These guys are going places.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Hands down one of the greatest action movies ever made
Terminator 2 transcends all limits of a spectacular blockbuster and is undoubtedly a striking masterpiece. If not for the obvious spoiler regarding the Terminator and the protector given out in the media, the film surely has one of the greatest plot twists ever, which works more or less because of what the prequel did. Terminator 2, while as action-packed to the core as The Terminator, also adds more visual flair and wider appeal to it. It somehow does away with the indie feel the prequel had, and this transition is smoothly done. Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance hits home and that's when you realize he's really "back."
The visual effects in this film are extraordinary. Even if you keep aside the time it came out in, they are impressive even in general. No doubt it has influenced countless sci-fi action films to follow, including its own sequels, but it has itself stood out as one of the greatest pieces in this genre. This simple action filmmaking formula of blending a unique concept with stylish action sequences and state-of-the-art CGI is utilized to the fullest by director James Cameron, who has to be commended for his spectacular vision. The whole cast and crew have to be similarly lauded for coming together to deliver a timeless action masterpiece that continues to hold up even today.
Viewed with the modern eye, Terminator 2 becomes even more special when you realize it's a masterful combination of a modern, futuristic story with the classic, old-school 90's action (big guns, bikes and explosions!). Out of all movies I have seen in the series, this is easily the best one. No doubt how violent or intense the overall product is, there's an unusual family flavor that calls for an all-age viewing. No matter how many movies try to replicate the style that made it an influential action piece, Terminator 2 is the original, outstanding gem and then some. Period.
The Covid Killer (2021)
Slasher film the best
It's so perfect of a horror & thriller that has history in it. It's not just a scary story like other horror films, this is one of the best horror movies that I have watched in awhile, and I hope they make many parts of this movie and the scenes are so good. I like the killing parts of it so I hope they make more of The Covid Killer or Copycat.
