Extraction 2 (2023)
Goes downhill, and fast!
Let's get the obvious out of the way : the prison escape RULES!
When it ended, I needed to take a break.
The pace, the action, the energy, the acting, the stunt work, the cinematography (and huge props to the camerawork!!) : everything in this first part of the movie got me on the edge of my chair, bitting my nails, screaming for more.
But those screams were unheard.
The next action piece is just a generic action sequence.
The last one is even more cliché and generic!
And that left me disappointed, because the movie showed what it was able of, but after that, it went downhill.
But it's a good watch, and I'll definitely rewatch the first sequence a couple of times.
The Sea Beast (2022)
The graphics are saving it!
Moby Dick meets How to Train your dragon, in a diluted and ultimately boring story.
Not having read "Moby Dick", I can't make a good comparison with it. But I liked "How to Train your Dragon", and the Sea Beast wishes it was as good a movie. But the story falls flat. In How to Train your Dragon, the protagonist has to fight to ultimately befriend a dragon.
In the Sea Beast, it just happens to the protagonists. The characters just sit down and are lead by the events. Which is weak storytelling. You want your characters to be active and have to fight to overcome the difficulties they encounter.
Now, you just sit and wait for the end of the movie, and that's boring.
Running with Speed (2023)
It's long, sometimes repetitive, yet interesting (sometimes)
I was hyped to finally have a look behind the curtains of speedrunning.
And I'm disappointed.
First, it's a very long "Summoning Salt" video, intercut with interviews and background stories of famous speedrunners. But it's still basically built as a Summoning Salt video.
And the way it's built, it's sometimes repetitive. And I mean, the documentary is 2 and half hours!! They could have cut a lot it, and that would have made it a way better experience (which is ironic coming from a documentary about people trying to get to the point as fast as possible!).
The second big issue is that the documentary spends A LOT of time trying to explain the basics of speedrunning, and I mean, it does make sense that you want people who know nothing about speedrunning to be able to understand what's going on, but for someone who already watches a lot of speedrunning, it quickly becomes boring.
But there are some interesting moments, like learning about how GDQs work in the background, and getting to know a bit more about some speedrunners.
But in the end, it's very unsatisfying.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
Great collage of "terran" in-between-missions cinematics!
It deeply made me want to replay StarCraft 2.
Bruce Willis NAIIIIIILS his Jim Raynor impression.
What I most enjoyed is the fact that story has nothing new to offer. That way, I don't have to use my brain to watch the movie. That saved me a lot of headaches, trying to figure stuff out, and keep track of any kind of story.
The little girl with sunglasses needs to learn to act, though!
Fortress (2021)
It would have been great if it was a porno!
The bad acting, the non sense horrible story telling, the poor production quality. I swear I was watching a porno! Every scene pointed towards some sexual stuff.
Sadly, it was only a very, very crappy movie.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
A pointless mess that has no reason to exist.
I found everything about this movie to be awful at best.
There's basically no story. They grab Neo out of the Matrix, but without any reason. They do it because the script told them to!
Then Neo goes to save Trinity, because that's all he knows to do, now.
Then, nothing. Just talking heads talking you straight into the heart of Boredom County, with some basic "Look at me I'm intelligent" social critic that is so on the nose it looks like a witch pimple. Oh, and don't forget all the pointless flashbacks to the first movie, and the background characters spewing out what you just saw on screen, and action scenes that have the suspense of a Flintstones episode, and that's about it.
Also, to Hell with this new Mr Smith!
