First of all why, when a series has run for a while and been popular, do the producers (or whoever) decide the title sequence needs to be changed? Certainly in this case, the responsible person should have been sacked. The new titles are AWFUL!
Next, the story is far from as funny as it thinks it is. It was probably seen as a coup to get Diana Dors to appear (& there's nothing wrong with Diana or her performance) but the character they've written for her is ghastly rather than funny.
It IS funny to see that the bow ties in 1978 were as huge as regular ties were! Reagan looks like a (terrible) teddy bear in his!
Lothario Lukey is an underwhelming addition. His apparent charms certainly don't come through the screen. The idea that all these women are falling at his feet is frankly unbelievable.
All in all, not a great episode. The whole thing is charmless, in a way The Sweeney never seemed to be before, even though it almost always features the dregs of society. Somehow there's something particularly grim about this lot.
Oh, and the end credits have been interfered with too.
Bah!
