Shotgun Wedding (2022)
No New Juice !
This is one of the latest examples of a formulaic action/adventure movie done with so many entries in this typical genre. The screenplay offers nothing new except if you are a lover of the gorgeous J. Lo (Jennifer Lopez) who plays the bride and perhaps you have some sympathy to watch Josh Duhamel. It is not a bad movie but on a ten-range scale it's a bet you must have watched something similar somewhere. The villain Lenny Kravitz cannot even be convincible as a villain and the plot twist just sucks and its so unbearable.
Shotgun wedding's plotline is summarised in its title to further expatiate one could possibly say this a wedding which gunshots were fired and that's it all except for the few emotions of jealousy, ' love lost love found scenarios ', there can be no new juice extracted from this piece of cinematic expression.
You People (2023)
Which people actually ... ?
You people is like 'guess who is coming to dinner' film but set in an alternate universe. It is a story about a White Jewish man in skin of Ezra (Jonah Hill) who finds it difficult to get a lover, he is bolstered from both sides concerning his love life until he finally gets to meets an American Mirah (Lauren London). It can be summarised simply as a bridge that that gives way to the other side amidst a conspicuous chasm.
A lovely relationship blossoms and forms between Mirah and Ezra, however the issue of their ethnic identity brings issues although it is dealt lightly with comedic tone as we can feel the sway of Eddie Murphy as Akbar in a fatherly role, he effort here to see if he can find anything wrong in the person of Ezra although he finds some fault but all is soon forgotten. To put this in a better perspective there is a playful clash of Jewish and African stereotypes as we can see this in Ezra's family; Shelley (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Arnold (David Duchovny). A supporting figure for Ezra can be seen in Mo (Sam Jay) who offers her advice with any charges.
A happy Hollywood ending ensues as the relationship between both sides of the divide as two different individuals from a lacuna drenching divide come together to form a bond that last forever.
Terrifier 2 (2022)
And we slash again
Is terrifier 2 a gore movie or horror movie ? Or has gore in film now become so glued to horror genre that it can't be separated from within ?
Art the Clown ( David Howard Thornton ) an insane maniac with the duty of terrifying individuals around Miles County begins his duty of brutish killings. The clown is a silent creature which personifies death it is common knowledge that death does it work with silence. The Clown being the main character in the movie is not a hero or anti hero but just a gruesome antagonist. That being said the audience cannot be expected to feel any sympathy towards the Clown only if you are a die hard fan then you will love to see blood been splattered.
An angel embodied in the character of Sienna Shaw played by Lauren LaVera will rise to save Miles County from this gruesome murder but before this conclusion certain points in the film could given credit for; the imagery and lighting and the dialogue which helps to create a dramatic current which gives birth to a constructive narrative. This is going to be a slashing adventure for viewers so please do watch.
Sidney (2022)
Sidney Poitier A Life Well Lived
Sidney is a biographical documentary directed by Reginald Hudlin it is about the life of Sidney Poitier one of the last remaining stars of the " Golden era of American Cinema " the United States born Bahamian actor who won the first competitive Oscar for a black male. His struggles as an individual before becoming a movie star. The man stood his ground and went on being an image for a generation of actors who followed behind.
Sidney Poitier's life is much more than being an actor but he was also a figure in the fight for equality through his actions and most notable his movies. He was in classics such as; In the Heat of the Night (1967), Guess Who 's Coming to Dinner (1967), and Patch of Blue (1965) these were the most exceptional ones in the issue of equality although his career will dwindle within the Blaxploitation era but he would still try to rekindle his fire by directing various comedies before starring in ground breaking inspirational movies.
In conclusion the life of Sidney Poitier is a rag to riches story and one of great inspiration and importance to black Hollywood and Hollywood in general. Sidney Poitier a life well lived.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
The Return of the Maverick
Tom Cruise returns as the " Maverick " in this sequel after over twenty years it marks a record of cinematic feet in propelling this piece as it has been most anticipated. The rivalry of the best as earlier seen in the prequel by Iceman ( Val Kilmer ) Pete " Maverick " Mitchell is been played by a new set of " kids " played by new characters they are nurtured under the tutelage of Maverick.
Long lost love is found again this could be split into two Maverick's love for flying and finding his former love. The meeting between Maverick and Iceman is an emotional meeting, the pain is real as we notice Val Kilmer's inability to deliver his lines because of his speech impediment but he pulls through.
Following the same direction cum cinematography as applied by the late Director Tony Scott we are been reminded of his classic work. And when the sun comes sun we see " In memory of Tony Scott " once again our emotions are been touched. Joseph Kosinski direction may be fascinating but not original as earlier stated it is a derivative of Tony Scott. The stunt coordination excellently fantastic, this movie is a really great score for Producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Most energy in this film is mostly in the jets as they glide in the sky, will they be caught by enemy power or not ? That's what causes tensions in our hearts but as all good stories the heroes must always prevail. So come and join this ride of wide entertainment.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Anti Climatic Atmosphere
Clockwork Orange is a movie about dysfunctional youths in revolution torn society in partial anarchy, it takes place in the dystopian future. Headed by Alex and his droogs which means friends one of the words borrowed from Russian vocabulary they cause adverse terror in the already worn out society. The motion picture is based on a book by Anthony Burgess sharing the eponymous title of the movie. This X-rated film is filled with violence, sex and sexual violence ! It combines production design with Stanley Kubrick's enticing directing style. The erotic art showed in this movies gives us a glimpse of Stanley Kubrick's of how art and film making could be merged together. It's premise progresses and then declines revealing an anti-climatic atmosphere.
Inherent in the storyline is the theme of moral choice which is well illustrated in this movie, Alex now at the will of choosing between good and evil when imprisoned for his crime he would be transformed from evil to good after submitting himself to a scientific experiment which was been described as unethical. We come across a bridge of bubbling questions one which includes; should science be used as a means of corrective justice ? Since the criminal strikes the state shouldn't the state strike back ? Alex encounter with science can be likened with the moral cause and effect of science on tampering with nature an example being the Frankenstein Monster created by tampering nature by means of scientific process in both cases they both result to calamity.
Before you reach the finale take a grasp of one question which is this; is Alex a hero, anti hero or a victim ?
Me Time (2022)
Dumb Jokes cum Fiction
Me Time is a movie for laughs and nothing more by now it has become knowledge that whatever movie which is associated with Kevin Hart is mostly for fun. Kevin Hart portrays his regular demeaned self, feeling in the role of a nobody, a man without an occupation but has fantasies of being a singer luckily he is supported by his loving wife an architect who helps in providing food for the family Regina Hall plays this role putting her self in the shoes of an overzealous woman who lacks family time.
The word " Me Time " simply means personal time used in leisure, we could also further interpret it as a self centered state of mind which could be seen profoundly in Mark Wahlberg's character he tried to show off eventually loosing it all cheerfully.
The movie is filled with silliness and jokes which are done excessively causing the movie to make out for clips of comedy. Kevin Hart needs to be able to diversify his portrayal of character and not play one character multiple times Mark Wahlberg's character is devastatingly too low for his person. The movies glimpse at being reasonable which dealt with the pairing of Kevin Hart and his on-screen son during the " talent show scene " was done childishly and prematurely. The movie will heighten your watching pleasure and nothing more, except you are a Kevin Hart fan you may not enjoy this.
Samaritan (2022)
Nice Try for a Super Hero
The word Samaritan applies to or could mean an individual who does good as exemplified in the good book. Taking on a leading role is Sylvester Stallone who plays the lead role in this movie.
It follows a comic book style kind of adaptation but does not evade the concept and philosophy of the good Samaritan who renders assistance despite not being the most righteous person in the world he would have to save the world from impending danger. The world has been raveled in a dichotomy of good and evil; the both wedged by the Samaritan and nemesis.
The Samaritan gets noticed by a young boy played by Javon Walton who religiously admires him, Sylvester Stallone who has aged at least since the nineties when he ventured into the Super Hero genre movies such as Judge Dredd and Demolition Man, he goes into this action super hero movie he possesses super powers which he uses to do good the fights well conducted using computer generated imagery to construct certain set pieces. Secondly the Samaritan who once lived in obscurity fermenting a quiet and simply life we recognize his immortality from his fights and now he must redeem himself. Can he ?
Secret Headquarters (2022)
For Your Kids Only
A movie produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and one of his regular partners Chad Oman. In this post-corona episode of film making movies are now moved by the wave of straight-to-stream. This is a super hero movie. OK watch out its not what you are thinking ! It's neither a Marvel or DC Comic movie. It deals with a bunch of kids whom find out about a secret headquarters this movie is closely resembled to Spy Kids series and We Can Be Heroes ( 2020 ).
Owen Wilson plays Jack Kincaid a father who is unable to be in a relationship with his son Charlie Kincaid ( Walker Scobell ), it is later discovered that he is The Guard leading up to events that create the climatic moments in the movie from teenage romance to childish fight scenes spewing with CGI ( Computer Generated Imagery ). Jesse Williams plays villainous role which doesn't seem to scare or torture probably it was toned down because it was a kiddies movies, the kids evade the adults with so much creating an unreasonable atmosphere but adolescents might actually appreciate this. A twist of events we find another wavering moment where we see Michael Peña emerge as the real villain more like a troublesome jester than a villain. It's obvious that the target audience for this movie was actually little kids and it is a very good marketing strategy for promotion of this direct-to-stream piece. To summarise this movie it is a a one setting Sci Fi home alone cum home Invasion scenario(s).
Day Shift (2022)
Spectacular
Encourage any one to It's a movie about vampires starring Jamie Foxx as the main protagonist disguised as a a pool cleaner he hunts vampires in San Fernando, California. Being separated from his wife the only thing that brings them together is their daughter drawn by the fact that he may soon loose his daughter if his wife moves out of their old home he must struggle to assist in catering for his daughter.
The movie is set in a world where one can't really describe because this is not our present world but intuition tells us the movie is realized in this present century and probably year. Bud Jablonski a character played by Jamie Foxx is a sly and slick guy gliding through the real world before drifting into the world of vampirism. Snoop Dogg as Big John Elliott adds this movie to his Filmography in this motion picture he has the role of getting Bud Jablonski back to his feet after loosing his involvement in ' the Union ' because of his rookie-like mannerisms which led to his removal. Seth ( Dave Franco ) provides comic relief for the audience and latter on a special kind of vampire. Karla Souza's villainous role helps to create the atmosphere of good and evil, the battle between the forces.
This marks the directorial debut of J. J. Perry, which could be applauded however most credit should be given to the visual effects supervisor's whom performed a spectacular job using computer generated imagery and also the fight scenes are well coordinated. It is a movie which I find fascinating and I encourage anyone to watch this movie if they seek the pleasures of entertainment.
The Black Phone (2021)
Horror in a new skin
A horror movie with a different twist and tale; it was tailored in a different fashion than the way horror thrillers are made nowadays. A troubling story about a masked kidnapper of children a role assumed by Ethan Hawke always in possession of black balloons as he commits his perverted acts.
The Black Phone hangs in the wall and plays into the creepy and mind accelerating mode of the movie. This phone is the instrument of communication between Finney ( Mason Thames ) and the ghosts of the murdered children who were slain by The Grabber ( Ethan Hawke ). The Grabber possesses a demented mind and multiple personality disorders this shares a little similarity with the movie Split ( 2017 ). A twisted mind also can be attributed to the father of Finney played in visibility by Terrence Blake (Jeremy Davies) he knows that the dreams of his daughter Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) are true but he has to pretend all along and accuse her of being ' insane with dreams ' ! Just like her late mother, the character of Gwen also helps in assisting her brother in his everyday endeavors.
In facing the most genuine matter of this movie foremost of all it is unique in it's on way as it does not really involve the gore and throat splitting which movies involving these stories incorporate. There is also a genuine focus on character development which I must say it requires a lot of praise for this There is a theme of revival from grass to grace; when we look at Finney we see a weakling who latter leads to the end of The Grabber.
Morbius (2022)
CGI Does not solve problems !
Morbius is a Marvel super hero movie Morbius deals with genetic engineering. Jared Leto plays Michael Morbius a paraplegic whom seeks to find the cure for his disabilities using unorthodox methods he becomes able to walk again. His boyhood friend Loxias Crown ( Matt Smith ) whom they both had the same defects also frees himself from the shackles of physical disability through the taking of the serum. The genesis of this movie starts off well but towards its climax we are thrown off the cliff making the storyline seem like a a speed car getting crashed. Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft is just there to occupy cinema role as a female character her relationship with Michael Morbius is just in need of explanation.
The problem with Morbius is like unlike other Marvel movies is seems to have an already common theme of vampirism and like The Punisher ( 2004 ) that came before it which dealt with vigilantism and revenge both common themes in blockbuster movies it did not have the maximum effect on movie goers. Another disaster with this movie is the screenplay that seems to be rushed or would one suggest that this movie was hastily edited and put out for consumption with the hope that some unnecessary visual effects would do the magic.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
The Title Says It All
This movie can be described as being the most original movie so far in the 2020s. I would love to describe it as an experimental film, an invention, an innovation in cinema. The title describes every thing the movie stands for " everything " and " everywhere " which includes the travelling through the multiverse in an omnipresent state.
Produced by the Russo Brothers of whom are prominent directors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe we see certain visual effects that spring up like movies based on Marvel Comic characters. Like Matrix film franchise which came before it we see originality. The screenplay must probably characterized by smash cuts and jumps. The stunt choreography is impeccable and would be cherished by all. Going by a word from the movie's title " everything " we are met with various genres everything from comedy to action and even Science fiction. Giving a positive remark may not be all that good for this day and age as the film despite it being original is not that unique in it's own path but however we all learn or derive our objectives from learning from others.
Its a wonderful movie despite it made for fun it addresses the subject matter of LGBTQ lightly. The movie to my mind is not an " Actors Movie " but rather a " Director's Movie " as the actors must rely primarily on the Directors vision to put their roles to screen.
Eraser: Reborn (2022)
Abort this Mission
This is an action thriller modelled on Eraser ( 1996 ) which was directed by Chuck Russell, it dealt with an agent who was in charge of modifying people's identity we could say he actually " erased their identities ". This 2022 movie called Eraser: Reborn is an attempt to actually breath in fresh air to an old classic action flick from the nineties but can this survive in this century ?
Taking the place of Arnold Schwarzenegger is Dominic Sherwood in this Action movie, he plays the role of U. S. Marshall Mason Pollard the would be savior of Rina Kimura, this character he plays in an unconvincing manner and he does not entertain in anyway, the role is weak and can't be compared to it's predecessors. McKinley Belcher III who plays the villain does it with great intensity as his role is done in a more convincing manner we get a feeling of the bad guy although we are limited because of the script.
A lawyer shows her middle finger to a government official ! Do lawyers actually engage in such distasteful attitude or was a fictitious movie now using fiction in ways that seemed so untrue. Little dramatization and so much gunshots and so where do the thrills appear to emanate from ? This movie is simply a blunt action movie with certain unconvincing moments.
They are in Cape Town so where are the locals ? We find them in a ' Sugar Shack ' speaking minute Afrikaans which must have been brought out from a phrasebook. We are supposed to see a population of Africans but however we see a few animals supposedly representing the population in Africa.
The tattoo " bud " was mentioned in a scene which should have been used for a little drama but it was lost in senseless gunshots. Before we finally know it's actually a word which means all those lost which couldn't be saved, this is probably the only philosophical insinuation in this movie out all the noise making carried out with armed weaponry. The computer generated imagery was actually wacky. The direction can't be any good as the script is too lousy. Not a good reboot or rebirth of anything the first one starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is far better off than this.
The Man from Toronto (2022)
Wonderful Piece
Teddy Nilson's ( Kevin Hart ) life filled with personal problems now has his life occupied by another person's concerns. He has to take the identity of " The Man From Toronto " ( Woody Harrelson ) because he is the only lead to an escaped Venezuelan dictator Colonel Marin ( Alejandro De Hoyos ) and his played by Daniela Marin ( Lela Loren ), however " The Man From Toronto " feels threatened by this and he attempts to get back his identity to prevent its falling into falsehood.
An Action Thriller embedded with Kevin Hart's wit and timely comic sense cum Woody Harrelson sleek villainy at this point " The Man From Toronto " becomes a two-in-one in name only. Kevin Hart adopts the persona with the guide of Woody Harrelson. Woody Harrelson on the other hand adopts an anti-hero persona resembling the type played by veteran action star Jason Statham; As we progress a new villain trying to end the lives of both Teddy Nilson and Randy called The Man From Miami ( Pierson Fode ). Debora / The Handler ( Ellen Barkin ) first plays a voice role before we finally see her unveil herself. A macho movie it seems the women are relegated to a much secondary role like Jasmine Mathews and Kaley Cuoco although Ellen Barkin's character happens to be triumph at the last showdown after all the ' Men From ( ... ) ' are defeated but what comes next to her is for you to witness.
The stunt actions are properly coordinated and done in a reasonable manner and with reason unlike other movies in this genre. There is room for ' dramatic showdown ' and with all the romance put in between and emotional display we can relax and enjoy this wonderful entertainment set before us.
The Lost City (2022)
We Need Something New ...
Borrowing heavily from Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile we have an Action Adventure at our disposal, however the ' damsel in distress ' cliché is not employed in this motion picture probably it has been exchanged, our Actress here is Sandra Bullock ( Loretta Sage ) Channing Tatum playing Dash McMahon plays a quite comedic role a bridge between fantastic simpleton and unworthy lover. Brad Pitt tries to restore " machohood " but he is shockingly kicked of the movie, good for him actually probably he could not stand the goofiness associated with the plotline.
The plotline contains mostly jokes made out of thin air producing nothing but muffled laughter from an individual, this film if intended to be a comedy made a laugh at itself. Even the most serious aspects of emotional exchange are dented by " privileged comedic expressions " off beat action scenes probably to meet with the modern times.
So what's good about this ? " unofficial remake " of our beloved Jewel of the Nile and Romancing the Stone both starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. The supporting cast which not only includes Brad Pitt but also Daniel Radcliffe and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, the problem with Radcliffe's portrayal of his character is the fact his accent makes the character seem weak, the villain should have a bit of toughness might not look tough but speak or either way have the both which is looking tough and acting tough. Da'Vine Joy Randolph a black plus sized woman brings a spirit of power and strength to uplift the character of Sandra Bullock.
Aaron and Adam Nee probably tried to avoid certain clichés by reversing certain things in Jewel of Nile but this all fall short of any achievement but in this world of love for fantasy in cinema this movie would be appreciated, it is a good watch for those who are in need of a picture to pulp their adrenaline.
Ambulance (2022)
Just Noise
With a poetic introduction we get to the childhood past of the two ' brothers in arm ' one in need but desperate the other in need for desperation to get what he needs. This is an Action Heist Thriller about a group of men who rob a bank and things do not go ahead as planned. The acting is poor and seems so unprofessional, there is nothing wrong with bullets and shootings but when it is done for no reason one might begin to wonder whether the script was a joke. Describing this movie as a " thriller " is quiet abnormal because it does not twist or mystify any aspect in our minds, we are just kept hanging by commotion.
Will Sharp played Yahya Abdul Mateen ll by has a wife and an infant son suffering from a life threatening illness this makes him go along with his brother Danny Sharp ( Jake Gyllenhaal ) on a robbery spree at the bank. These two brothers aren't blood related they are portrayed just the same way Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson were in the movie train adopted by an individual, these two movies share one commonality which is they flop. Eiza Gonzalez character is a sympathetic medic whose on screen presence is a ploy by the screenwriter to get emotional sympathy in the midst of idiotic gunshots, long hours of car chases and otherwise.
This movie would have functioned well in the mind of an individual if it was made as a ' runaway thriller ' like the classic The Fugitive TV Series it would have made better sense instead of the on screen pandemonium made by Michael Bay. The movie has a theme of survival and renewal but it ends up without any redemption we have a tragedy at our doorsteps not just its finale it's body content is so. Now you have a tragedy at your disposal.
Body Double (1984)
Fluid and Eroticism
This is an Erotic thriller/mystery borrowing from Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window and the Golden Era of American Adult Film Industry, Brian De Palma puts the pieces he can find from each together. The movie follows the life of Craig Wasson character Jake Sully an aspiring actor whose life is in perils, after being heart broken and trying out some few stints in acting, he enters a more exciting episode in his life which is witnessing murder, his problems comes after his encounter with Sam Bouchard ( Gregg Henry ) whom let's him stay in an apartment of his supposed friend whom is away. Gloria Revelle ( Deborah Shelton ) plays a role of a haunted wife with no much to do other than just walk and flow with the camera she happens to be an object for the tracking shots made by Brian De Palm.
Borrowing conspicuously from ' Rear Window ' we should note that there are elements of ' Psycho ' in this movie although it is masquerade in the image of an Indian, this could be described as the alter ego of Gregg Henry's character we could in a light view compare this to Norman Bates ( Anthony Perkins ) in Psycho whose alter ego was his mom. As regards the Golden Age of Pornography the kissing scene between Craig Wasson and Deborah Shelton could not easily be placed in a fairly realistic movie this is the fantasy mostly presented in ' skin flicks '. Melanie Griffith's character Holy Body is a fairly sure embodiment of the Golden Porn Era as she portrays all attitudes of an adult film star. Brian De Palma also uses music video style choreography in the scene of the meeting of Craig Wasson and Melanie Griffith featuring the music of Frank Goes Hollywood called Relax.
Fluid camera movements, tracking shots, skin and gore happen to be the hallmark of this classic, the story line kind of surrealist, a fiction embracing the imaginations of Brian De Palma. He marks every scene with his ink cementing it with the statement ' A Brian De Palma Film '
Dressed to Kill (1980)
Hitchcockian in Nature
This is a movie that has two segments; firstly the one that involves a woman with sexual problems which are quiet psychological in nature. The second aspect takes of after an incident involving the woman with the aforementioned issue.
The first female protagonist must die for the second female protagonist to begin, this other woman has a problem which develops as a result of the sexual nature of the job. The principal characters include Michael Caine ( Dr Robert Elliot ), Angie Dickinson ( Kate Miller ) and Nancy Allen ( Liz Blake ), Michael Caine also plays the role of Bobby which can described as his second personality. Angie Dickinson character revolves around her being a mother to a boy by the name of Peter Miller ( Keith David ) and her being the subject of De Palma's long shot and camera movements. Nancy Allen whom is supposed to be a " hooker with the heart of gold " but the script does not provide so much to uplift her character. Brian De Palma borrows heavily from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho made in 1960, this motion picture is a homage to Hitchcock's acclaimed aforementioned work. The following are gotten from Hitchcock's Psycho;
1. The elimination of the main female protagonist
2. The use of suspense
3. A score which evokes panic of the mind.
Brian De Palma " the master of the macabre " as the statement of promotion of this master piece described him, Director De Palma relied more on visuals; what will excite the human mind through the optical nerves there is little interest in development of characters. Eroticism meets fluidity of camera cum long shots which are characteristics of De Palma's work.
Cape Fear (1991)
You'll Learn Bout Loss
We are introduced into the movie by teenage innocence which differentiates it from the original then immediately taken aback by the Soviet ' Man of Steel ' although not a character in this movie but personified by Max Cady ( Robert De Niro ) now released from prison he would prowl his defence lawyer played by Nick Nolte because of his purposely leaving out evidence which should have been used to get him a lesser sentence.
Max Cady begins to exert his revenge by hurting a lady ( Lori Davis ) played by Illeana Douglas romantically involved with Sam Bowden ( Nick Nolte ) and also killing his wife's dog which is described as " man's best friend "
At this point conflicts arise between Mr and Mrs Bowden concerning fidelity, the same case happens between Max Cady and Danielle Bowden ( Juliette Lewis ). Another conflict is that which happens within the mind which is a ' conflict of morality ' who can we blame for Max Cady's time served in jail ? Himself or his former defence attorney Sam Bowden who left out piece of evidence which would have been used to give him a lesser sentence or was it better to leave out such evidence for this cruel man to serve time for so long.
Martin Scorsese use of morality to illustrate certain scenarios shows how true he is to his Catholic faith, Robert De Niro's character feels that he is God after exerting vengeance he makes his trial of Sam Bowden an affair of Law and Morality as seen in his speech, even the death of Max Cady can be seen as religious; his rejection from this world and his return to hell beneath the waters ! Martin Scorsese employs Hitchcockian style in his directing although he does not do this with in depth style as his contemporary Brian DePalma would have done. Juliette Lewis character is that of a naive teenager ready to bust out from the shadows. Jessica Lange character is our usual woman characterised by fear, support and grief.
This movie a remake of the 1962 version features cameos from the two original cast members Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum. Martin Scorsese remake can be described as a precedent for remakes as he does this with a unique difference.
Vendetta (2022)
Every Negativity is Inherent
The emotions in the after opening scene tends not to correspond with the sound effects that is the first fail in this movie. Secondly the vengeance plot is too cliché, Charles Bronson has given us much of this revenge filled plot and this adds ' no salt to an already poorly made soup ! '
Even a vivid action film fan has nothing to be excited about as regards this picture, marketed as a Bruce Willis movie the story line is fast paced giving little room for acting and only conversations that exists in a now typical Bruce Willis film. Bruce Willis in one of his penultimate performances gives us his usual stillborn performance. Clive Standen tries to do justice to this bad production however the ' bad soup ' can no longer be made tasty. Theo Rossi actually played his part as the bad guy well but his performance falters because of every bad found on screen.
3 Major things are bad about this movie;
1. Poor Script
2. Poor Dialogue Delivery
3. Poor Acting Performance
These already summarise every thing negative about this movie. Finally when did the principal bad guy start sitting in front of the American flag ?
Charlie's Angels (2000)
Entertainment for your eyes
An action comedy rigged with pleasure, desire and beautiful women, the Charlie's Angels played by Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore. Their mission is to recover a DNA voice machine created by a character named Erin Knox.
It's a movie that centres on feminine strength to conquer evil from villains, this trio are associated with a billionaire called Charles Townsend an anonymous individual known by only his voice. Despite being filled with violence the comedic play helps to tone the dangerous action down. It has a cliché twist as we are made to discover later that Erin Knox born John McCaddon is the villain on assignment to kill Charles Townsend, whom he has accused of killing his father. Here we see that deception plays a very critical part in this movie.
Cameron Diaz in her ever beautiful look and stunning appearance adds that flair to this feature film adapted from television including Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu who adds that oriental spice to the movie. The combo of the trio is a crunchy snack for a fun filled day.
This movie directed by McG a music video director turned feature film director makes a film, this movie is entertaining and made to keep you watching continuously, it has no underlying meaning, just fun and excitement. McG picked the right kind of movie to make a feature film directorial debut because this film closely mirrors most actions in music videos as most music videos ( not all ) are reminiscent of ' jiggle television. ' We are grateful for this beautiful piece brought back to life in the 21st century.
Deep Water (2022)
Snail; Slippery and Slimy
" I can't apologise for that Joe I did kill Martin McCrae ... I hit him with a hammer ! " says Vic Van Allen ( Ben Affleck ) to a suspected lover of his wife Melinda Van Allen ( Ana de Armas ). The killing of Martin McCrae would pop up several times leaving us with a mysterious void; ' Who killed Martin McCrae ? '. But not just Martin McCrae is going to die ! Others will and who kills them remains on our minds.
Adrian Lyne applies the " organic mixture " of eroticism, mystery, confusion and most especially jealousy to keep our minds working constantly I mean after twenty years absence from film making his comeback has to be grand, that's why we have a situation as murky as the way deep waters go; wavy, windy and destroying everything that comes towards its path. Ana de Armas plays the naughty wife with a gentle flair of eroticism applying the gimmicks of a cheating wife. Ben Affleck plays his role with employing jealousy as his basis for existing in this motion picture but his emotions are too little for a man who is burning with jealousy and his psychopathic tendencies don't fit his personality.
A mystery/thriller/horror told in a melodramatic fashion there is a slow and steady drive of the story prolonging the identity of the killer, the snails brandished in this movie are a representative of the slow pacing which the movie takes, even when we discover the identity of the killer of whom is Ben Affleck's character, we are still drawn back like the slimy nature of the snail it draws back to its former surface. So we are left with a question; Is Vic Van Allen truly the bad guy ?
Senior Year (2022)
BULLDOG
This movie deals with teenage turbulence merged into teenagehood awakened into adulthood of Stephanie Conway ( Rebel Wilson ). So after a long sleep we eclipse into a ' Back To School ' episode.
Rebel Wilson plays a cheerleader who falls into a coma while in High School during a cheerleading practice, she plans her comeback after returning back to High School she has to deal with an already changed situation. Blaine Balboa ( Justin Hartley ) is Stephanie Conway's crush but she looses him due to her coma. Seth Novacelik ( Sam Richardson ) is a guy in ' friend zone state ' their relationship steams up and then calms down, what's the reason ? Why must this happen ?.
Zoe Choe playing tiffany had a terrific performance although everything fall into ' teenage brouhaha ' Mary Holland's character has an in depth meaning, great performance and truly exceptional, her sexual orientation also makes her stand out in the midst of bludgeoning heterosexual relationships.
I wonder what Rebel Wilson aimed to do with this sort of movie, teen comedies have been made multiple times. As we notice Miss Wilson has gone from plus sized to ' Hollywood actress figurine ', so was this a vehicle to showcase her newfound curves ? Absolutely yes but no. Some jokes are so lame what's are you ' serious ' are you from ' Syria ' in our world filled with problems why make such jokes ! The movie would have functioned better as a docudrama made with surrealism in its ' makeup. '
The Other Woman (2014)
Reality where art thou ...
This is a Romantic comedy with ' feminine domineering engineering ' and driving this super powered engine in lead capacity in Cameron Diaz ( Carly Whitten ) as she adds a spark and a flare to the screen accompanying her in this area of mechanics are Leslie Mann ( Kate ) and Kate Upton ( Amber ) .
This movie deals with ladies whom at first put the interest of loving a man named Mark King ( Nikolaj Coster-Waldau ) above themselves until each of them find out that they are been cheated on by the same person, they must now use the same femininity but now with power and unity among themselves to plot against the unsuspecting Mark King.
A rom-com as it is, this one has too many fictitious scenarios including one that makes us wonder what universe these ladies come from as they all unite happily ! It hardly happens in real life but this is a comedy and it could be easily excused.
Cameron Diaz has a workable relationship with her father played by Don Johnson acting as a ' magical force ' giving Cameron's Character little tit-bits as regards what to do. The use of oestrogen is a symbol for eroding the masculinity of Mark King who looses everything at the finale.
This movie serves as a vehicle for the enhancement of the sex symbol Cameron Diaz and a symbol of power against the ' male archetypal world in film '.
