Beavis and Butt-Head: Stolen Valor/Breeding Frenzy (2023)
I couldn't get on board with this one
I didn't expect much from the 2022 series redux, but each of the past 2 seasons have exceeded my expectations prior to this episode. Stolen Valor may have made light of the significance of sacrifices made by combat vets, but aside from that, a few jokes landed along the way. Overall, it was one of the weaker half episodes so far in season 2. The big turnoff for me was Breeding Frenzy. Another episode about raccoons seemed a little unnecessary, but raccoons can be funny, so no harm/no foul if it's actually funny. So we get more of Beavis getting injured, which has been an ongoing theme and felt pretty predictable this time around. The boys waiting at a dog park just to see one of them poop crossed the too puerile to be funny threshold for me...but the part that really lost me was a seemingly well behaved dog being mauled in a fight with the raccoon. I just don't see the humor in that in any capacity. I will give the next episode a chance, but for the first time since the reboot, I'm no longer eagerly looking forward to it.
South Park: A Million Little Fibers (2006)
No way this is the worst episode
I'm not sure why people rip on this episode...so Oprah actually had a book club for her arbitrary pretentious Ivy League simulations, and she actually invited an author back to her show for the sole purpose of unreservedly raking him over the coals in front of her viewing audience. She definitely deserved a bit of razzing for doing that, and the Towelie correlation was clever, the jokes were funny (imo) and no one can argue that it was at least original at worst through the crudeness. BTW, who actually watches this show with the expectation of non-crude humor anyway? The use of the word "minge" alone makes this one funnier than at least 5 dud episodes that immediately come to mind. I think Trey & Matt could have really driven it home by portraying the shift from Book Club Oprah to Urban Oprah depending on who her guest was at the time, but either way, this was classic South Park during the glory days of the show.
South Park: Spring Break (2023)
Worst episode?
This was the first time I've watched an episode of South Park without having a single laugh since the Jakovasaurs episode from season 3. Trey & Matt usually keep their content more relevant to current events (and funny) but this just felt like an obligatory installment with no fresh perspective, which seemed sadly inevitable after the billion dollar jackpot that Trey & Matt fell into. Why focus on a political figure who's no longer in power with so much happening in the world right now? I don't love Donald either, but is our CURRENT president off limits? He's certainly not perfect. It's ironic that the same guys who wrote Team America World Police are exhibiting their own political biases and are becoming the same pretentious, out of touch celebrities that they once mocked.
South Park: Back to the Cold War (2022)
Not the strongest material
Perhaps my expectations were too high for this one, as Butters tends to enhance the comedy value, but the humor just felt forced this time around. The overall satire on current events didn't really land, and the silly horse humping/pooping debauchery wasn't enough to save the episode from being below average. A sub-par episode of SP is still more watchable than nearly anything on tv, and hopefully they redeem themselves today.
