Not what I thought.
19 July 2007
I rented this movie recently having missed it while it was in the theaters. This, as it turned out, was fortunate. While it made for a somewhat decent rental, I'm quite glad that I had not paid full price to see it. The producers had extremely fertile ground with which to work, but missed at just about every opportunity. There were a few sight gags, but even they were not what they could have been. The dialog was weak throughout the entire film, and the whole premise fell flat on its face. There have been other comedies that have done far more with a great deal less. I don't know if it was because there were no real big time stars, comedians?, in the movie, if the director was inexperienced, if the writers were just not good enough, but for whatever reason, the movie just didn't have it. It was like biting into a perfectly grilled porterhouse only to find that it is made of tofu.

Not so great
11 July 2007
Because of this movie's connection with the 40 Year Old Virgin, I guess I was expecting more. Leaving the 40YOV, my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. This movie produced a few chuckles and that was about it. It was a disappointment. When a movie is billed a s a comedy, I think that it should be able to produce more than a few chuckles throughout its length. The premise was quite good and was fertile, pardon the pun, ground that was not plowed to perfection, thereby producing a weak crop. The movie was cute, and not a total loss by any means, and I did not feel as if I had been ripped off but it just did not produce what it should have. A great opportunity for a great comedy was there but the catch was not made.

An entertaining, fun film
11 July 2007
Reviews I read about this movie, expectedly, panned it. I saw it 7/11/07 and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Was it believable? Of course not, but you don't go into a movie like this expecting it to be. You go to this type of film to laugh, to be entertained, and to have a good time. LFDH gives all of these in abundance. One reviewer slammed it because an old cop like McClain teaming with a young hacker like Farrell was not believable. Why not? If you are in a situation, and there is someone that is an asset in getting you out of that situation, would you not use that person's help regardless of age, race, sex, etc? A foolish reason to put a movie down. LFDH was a hell of a good movie that kept me entertained for its entire running time. If you want believable, read the newspaper. If you want to be entertained and have some fun go see Live Free Die Hard.

A mistake has been made.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN ALL OF THE EPISODES, THIS COMMENT WILL CONTAIN A SPOILER.

I got hooked on this show through a fortunate happenstance. My wife wanted to watch it and I agreed to watch it with her. By the end of the first show I was done. Hooked, gaffed, and landed. We have watched it up to the end of season three where the writers did a dirty thing. Killing off Assumpta was as wrong a move as they could have made. Her sharp tongue, tempered by her sweetness and vulnerability, were a large part of what made the show so great. She was a perfect offset for the Church. Without her on the show I'm not sure we will seek out the rest of the episodes. They just won't be the same. Up until this moment it was a perfect show, relating to the lives of very small town people in many places. The writers seemed to understand human nature well.
