The Office: Local Ad (2007)
Season 4, Episode 5
6/10
Overrated
16 June 2024
I don't get the Season 4 reviews. The only one I agree with is the Chair Model and Fun Run reviews. Launch Party and Dunder Mifflin Infinity are much funnier than this episode, and they have an 8.1 and 8.2. Even Survivorman, where Michael is barely in the office, has an 8.0 and rivals this episode. The golf episode Job Fair is just as funny as this and is ranked 7.6... so this episode is completely overrated. Michael is another level jerk the entire episode. He hates on the very creative office's amateur commercial. Commercial never gets made. The side story is Dwight's video game. Phyllis cries. Dwight is a little sad about Angela again. Easily one of the worst of the season.

True Detective: Now Am Found (2019)
Season 3, Episode 8
2/10
Soap Opera
3 October 2023
Finally it's over. I feel like I just finished a really big essay, or went on a long run. I couldn't wait for this season to end. How do people decide that Season 2 is better than what I just finished watching? It had steady pacing, no plot holes, and stand out performances. It focuses on the investigation and doesn't reveal too much or too little throughout the 8 episodes. Season 3 was a story of flashbacks and flash forwards, half of which spent the time telling the story of the relationship between Wayne and Amelia. We see little investigation, a lot of relational arguing between partners, husbands and wives, and sons and fathers, dates, TV interviews, a man struggling to beat dementia, and a lot of repeated tropes from Season 1 because Pizzolatto obviously took some of the criticisms from 2 and reintroduced occult themes that really didn't pan out into anything. No one was really evil, just weird and lonely, no one ever got caught, everyone just got old. This season could have been a movie. What a painfully slow, boring 8 episodes of television. The show has only gone downhill.

Seasons 2 Will Get Its Flowers Eventually
3 October 2023
I just decided to finally watch Season 3. After forcing myself to finish it, like a paper I didn't want to write, I kept asking myself "How do people keep saying that Season 2 is so much worse than Season 3?" I understand Pizzolatto seeing the displeasure in so many viewers with Season 2, so he went back to occult practices and child abuse in Season 3. But my lord... did they ever actually investigate anything? There were a few episodes where detective work didn't even exist, and the show focuses instead on the dementia of the main character and him powering through it trying to remember to his family. It's a season of flashbacks and by the end, you're wondering why you just watched it. At least in 2, there was constant police work, solid acting throughout, and pacing. Season 3 had none of that. I was really disappointed in 3 and for the life of me can't understand anyone's preference of Seasons 3 over 2.

Season 1: 10/10 Season 2: 8.5/10 Season 3: 7/10.

What a boring episode
2 October 2023
This has to be the point where I hear about so many viewers giving up on this season. Let's focus on some "True Detective" work. I feel like I'm watching the Butterfly Effect, or the Matrix, or a cinematic version of Tuesdays with Morrie. I thought this show was about solving crimes, but the main character, who you can't understand, is just talking as himself from three different decades (one of which you realize he has dementia) and it is painfully, painfully slow and can't be farther from a crime-based show. The son is telling his dad not to do interviews, and I'm wondering why I have to write 6 more character to talk about a boring episode.

Band of Brothers: Bastogne (2001)

Let's Be Honest
14 September 2023
Every one of the 10 episodes in Band of Brothers is a masterpiece, hands down. This is an overrated episode though. It feels that just because there are so many explosions, and that it is a significant part of the Battle of the Bulge qualifies it as having a higher score than an episode like Carentan.

1st: The Jimmy Fallon cameo was ridiculous, and it should at least bring the episode down a point.

2nd: Anna, Renee's assistant and a survivor of the town attack, a woman who was recognized by multiple governments for taking care of soldiers and civilians, was shown on screen for 10 seconds.

3rd: While Doc is a great character and is played by a great actor, his story should've been told through his eyes on another episode, not one that takes place during the BATTLE OF THE BULGE. The fact this episode (where Doc consistently hangs out so he can talk to his crush) is still much higher than Crossroads, an episode that repeatedly returns to Winters and Nixon with a typewriter, is silly.

Still love the episode and sure I'll get annihilated for my opinion, but I just think the ratings have to be a little more logical.

The Office: Shareholder Meeting (2009)
Season 6, Episode 11
10/10
Dunder Mifflin Prom
30 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of if not the most underrated episodes of The Office. It continues with the storyline of Dunder Mifflin's bankruptcy, with Michael joining the board in front of angry shareholders. Bringing Dwight, Oscar, and Andy, the episode set in a cliche conference hotel with major corporate big wigs gets pretty hilarious.

The guest star in this show is the limousine. From the office's reaction to a limo showing up in the parking lot and the ride to the meeting, to the angry senator telling him he can't ride in it again, and especially the end: when Michael, Dwight, Andy, and Oscar run out of the building early with a handle of liquor like high schoolers just so they can catch the senator's limo before it leaves.

One of the funniest scenes in The Office. I'll never understand some of the scores for these different episodes but that's ok because one of the things that makes The Office all time is that it has something for everyone.

This Movie is a Hard 9
9 October 2022
This movie was hilarious when I saw it at 17 and it's still hilarious now. Yes this movie has it's shortfalls, just like Kirk. But some of the great things about Kirk are that he's unassuming, just like this cast. Yes the movie is cliche, it's biggest stars are Jay Baruchel and Alice Eve, and it can get pretty raunchy.

The airport setting and things starting and ending there is phenomenal. The way the story is told, and how rankings are referenced throughout the movie is genius. More than anything, the friendship between the Devon, Jack, Stainer, and Kirk make the movie. A lot of romantic comedies are cliché like this one, but the successful ones are both hilarious and make you root for the main character. This movie checks both those boxes and might make you contemplate as well.

People Need To See This As It Is
3 October 2022
After introducing us to a new cast, this episode gets under way in explaining the relationships between not just the Rhaenyra/Alicent but more important they're families. It leads to a lot of suspense, a great climax and you see further division between the families and one of the coolest parts: start to see how young characters understand the game of thrones and their affinity or lack thereof for playing it.

I see lots of complaints about the show saying how there is no tension, how the show is a soap opera, and focuses only on families. A lot of the complaints compare this show to GoT, saying there's too much talking and that nothing happens. To anyone complaining, you realize Westeros is at peace right? No one is at war? So people aren't looking to kill each other.. yet. The very reason there is so much fighting in GoT is because dragons and Targaryens are gone in Westeros. So give the show time, and realize that is a different show, just as Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad are different. Great acting, great production, great writing.

There's Been A Phenomenal Episode
13 August 2022
I don't understand the low ratings for this episode. Makes no sense. I'll say I think the southern accents were supposed to be terrible.

This episode is pure. It's unique for so many reasons. This episode covers so many storylines from Erin and Andy to the next turn Dunder Mifflin. And Michael uses something ridiculous to teach Jim about management. Lots of different themes of The Office packed into one episode. One of the best of the show.

All Hat and No Cattle
31 May 2022
I wish I knew how this show is rated an 8.7. It's not better than Succession and not on par with Better Call Saul. Yet the show is worshipped by the masses. The worst of the show is not the pace or characters, but the depiction of ranch management and relationships with other land owners. Normally unrealistic forms of violence and corruption would be fine, if this show wasn't peddled as very realistic. I see everyone in my Metroplex wearing Cowboy Hats and major beer brands making canned Ranch Waters. Pretty sad to be honest.

I gave it 2 Stars for cinematography. Like Dances with Wolves/Open Range, Costner helped create a great backdrop - that the writers make you look at since the pace is slow. Beth is annoying. The show drags on and has you waiting for the next meaningful interaction or form of ranch life violence. Just know what you're watching is very far fetched, especially the portrayal of ranch life.

I've Gotta Say
31 May 2022
I loved the show. I watched it because I was fascinated with Roman history, knew very little, and had heard this was accurate.

What stuck out to me most is that Augustus "Octavian" Caesar is a straight sociopath. It's interesting that one of the most successful leaders in the history of the world, was someone who willingly sacrificed the well-being of family and friends for the good of the Republic. He had no emotion and it was crazy to see.

I ended up loving Octavia and Atia, as well as Vorenus and Pullo obviously. Such a well done show. Glad they didn't prolong it, history was repeated perfectly, with maybe a tiny bit of fiction thrown in. Great show.

I'm now considering throwing a Waffle Party for my department. Just not inviting HR. Another great episode with a penultimate cliffhanger. I loved and hated how briefly Helly's outie was shown and the full turn Irving has taken. Looking forward to the finale as well as Season 2.
