Ripley (2024)
Incredible rare gem
Alfred Hitchcock has been reincarnated! It is so refreshing to see a movie of this style, film noir, being produced in 2024. The rash of today's action movies is getting tiresome, so it's nice to see someone take a chance like this. Great acting and cinematography. Lots of twists and turns and many details intertwined throughout. Only flaw is a couple of far-fetched scenes that would be considered a stretch even by Alfred Hitchcock standards. Aside from that, nearly perfect and I couldn't help but binge-watch. Its so good, I was bummed it ended after eight episodes. Hoping for more in any form .
Baby Reindeer (2024)
Very well show from a true story
Richard Gatt's Baby Reindeer shows originality, depth, intelligence, humour (dark humour, physical humour, satire, quick-witted banter), and excellent performances overall from both the lead and supporting cast. That it is based on a true story doesn't add to my giving this show such a high score, it is an excellent and complete work in and of itself. However, the fact that most of the narrative details are true is something which catapults the experience out of the screen and into the minds and hearts of the audience, portraying the complexity of the human condition with an immediate and viscerally felt sense of empathy, fear and disgust. Viewer discretion is advised: some themes and scenes are disturbing (although handled with enough care and ironic distance). This is accessible to all and I see no reason not to recommend this show to anyone who is mature enough to handle it!
3 Body Problem (2024)
Incredible if not a perfect adaptation!!
Fantastic adaptation. It deviates A LOT from the book in the beginning for the sake of a better western acceptance, but it does succeed in making the swapped characters entertaining, relatable and even exciting. The best part is you don't really need to read the books to enjoy the show, and though it introduces a few physics concepts, it doesn't unnecessarily complicate them and is easy to understand even if you're not familiar with the science in this sci fi. I'm excited to see what they do with the more action filled parts of the novel waiting to be adapted. Pleas pleas Netflix don't listen to the haters and just renew it!
The Gentlemen (2024)
Shocked by how this was so freaking good!
So happy that it matched the bars set by the movie, loved every second. I love most of Guy's movies and this series allows me to savor the moment a bit longer. This show is an absolute blockbuster, a cinematic marvel translated to the small screen. Its storytelling prowess is unparalleled, each frame meticulously crafted to deliver an electrifying performance that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. With every episode, it meets the high standard set by its movie predecessor. This is not just a show, it's a cinematic experience redefined for television, setting a new standard for small screen greatness. A must-watch masterpiece that captivates from start to finish.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
Renew it already!!
In many aspects, this is not even close to the original. In other aspects, however, it is excellent, creative and even better than the original. Avatar: The Last Airbender is a unique series, being very similar and so different than the animation, with creators who clearly loved their job and brought it to a very high level, that can lead to an excellent continuation of 2 more seasons. It's a shame that the creators of the animation left, though, because of their egoism. With their guidance, the series could've been even better than it already is. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... Don't cancel it. So much more to do and such awesomeness here already. Can only imagine what the 2nd and 3rd ones would be like.
One Day (2024)
Wonderful heartbroken story
I'm not usually one to watch sad stories but I was promised this one would be worth it, and it certainly was. It's really well done - from fantastic acting that stirred my emotions to a heartbreakingly beautiful story of friendship and love - I was truly invested in these characters and couldn't stop watching. It's been a long time since I've been this moved by a story. Highly recommend the watch if you can handle some emotional turmoil. What a relief to finally be able to watch a shown where the characters are all decent people, instead of the usual envious, vindictive, self-centered and amoral caricatures every movie and TV series seems to have today.
Boy Swallows Universe (2024)
this's an example of how u translate a book to screen
Eli takes us on a dark and fraught journey from boy to adolescent with beautiful and loving family relationships, endearing friends and all of the trials and tribulations of being seen as an easy target set amongst unimaginable tragedy brought by enemies and criminal enterprise. The cast is impeccable, first class and the acting is truly remarkable. Some big careers are being laid here from a fine crew of young and emerging talent. Australian Film and Television have an uncanny knack of turning out iconic classics and this series sits amongst them. This show is a must watch , totally recommend.
The Brothers Sun (2024)
absolutes worth your time
It's a captivating and heartwarming masterpiece that brilliantly weaves together elements of family, love, and resilience. The storytelling is impeccable, drawing you into the lives of the characters and making you feel like a part of their journey. The narrative is rich with emotion, humor, and moments of profound insight, creating a truly immersive experience. The author's skillful prose paints a vivid picture of their world, leaving a lasting impact on the reader. It's a shining example of literary excellence, leaving you with a warm glow and a renewed appreciation for the power of family bonds. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a beautifully crafted and uplifting tale.
Yu yu hakusho (2023)
One of the finest shows this year !
Wow! When I gave it a try, I did not expect to binge watch this series, let alone finish it. (Unfortunately it is only 5 episodes.) The manga and anime are rather wacky and dated, but this live-action series is extremely well-made. The fight scenes are excellent, on the level of what you would expect from a blockbuster movie, and better than many Marvel projects (easily better than most of their Disney+ TV shows). I especially like how the main character is a thinking fighter.
He makes use of so many items (electrical panel door, stray bicycle, electric cables, etc.) around him while fighting enemies that are far stronger. The main characters are manga-like, simple, somewhat stereotypical, BUT within the first few minutes of the show you will pickup on the depth of their feelings and start to relate to them. At times it is hard not to snicker at their clothing, but it is in keeping with the anime and the manga. I hope this is renewed quickly, and that they approve more episodes next time. Well worth a binge!
Boku no Daemon (2023)
Top Notch Anime !
WOOOOW! I fell head over heals in love with this series! The animation was to die for, I was on the edge of my seat from first episode to last, binged it in 2 days, I couldn't wait to finish it. I've always been intreigued by anime, but never really got into any but I honestly loved every single second of this. So heartfelt and raised a lot of questions about our own humanity. How gorgeous!!! Haven't adored a series this much in a long time. Quite like Pokémon but for the more older generation. I'm not even (or was) a Pokémon obsessive either.
There really is so much to love about My Daemon!!!
Blue Eye Samurai (2023)
Netflix is on fire with these animations
It's just nice to watch a TV show in 2023 where the writers are not trying to bash you over the head with "THE MESSAGE" and you can in engage with a likeable and believable female protagonist who you want to see succeed. Fantastic animation style, music (with a Japanese version of For Whom The Bell Tolls being something I that I never knew I ever needed!), and the dialogue with a stellar voice cast that all contribute to a great show that I was fully invested in from start to finish. The show does however at times over-rely on it's use of sex scenes, and I'm not prudish, but it does feel a little awkward at times. But still a 10/10 for me , absolutely amazing.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023)
Just Wonderful
Totally surprise about this series , because it was nothing like what I expected. The animation is a beautifull, the music on fire, the one point that is all the original voices of the film have brought their best and the references they make to it, except for chapter 4 that I liked it most , each chapter is an adventure in itself that allows you to know more about the universe in which these characters develop. I love how compared to the movie and comic this shows how far ramona will go for Scott but also how they showed a bit deeper into Roxie too .Always Scott Pilgrim.
Totally recommend 10/10.
All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Watch it now!
This show's attention to detail is nothing short of extraordinary, transporting viewers to a bygone era with its meticulous set design and costume work. The cinematography is a feast for the eyes, capturing both the beauty and the harsh realities of the wartime landscape. It's a must-watch for anyone seeking a captivating, emotionally resonant experience that lingers long after the final credits roll , a wonderful tale beautifully told and played. Loved almost all the characters! Except Lars Eidinger who kind of played a bad version of Christoph Waltz brilliant Hans Lada in Inglorious Bastards. Otherwise very well done.
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
Beautiful Work From Mike And Netflix
Absolutely loved it! It starts out a bit slow but by the end of episode 2, I was hooked! The cinematography is just as amazing as it was in The Haunting of Hill House and the acting is exceptional. Yes, most of the characters were unlikeable (they were supposed to be) ... except for Lenore and Juno (who ended up being my favorite character despite her small part). This show is the first supernatural thriller I've seen as an adult that scared me. It wasn't the supernatural stuff that shouldn't bother a functioning adult. It was something more profound, and the more I think about it, the scarier it gets.
I think this show is going to win a lot of awards!
One Piece (2023)
Best Show In 2023
Please don't listen to the haters, you can see how they went hardly fathom the immense effort that must have gone into this project - the meticulous casting of actors, the choice of locations, and every detail crafted to perfection. The actors, in my eyes, appeared to be born for their roles. However, I do have concerns that some viewers may not embrace it fully due to comparisons with the anime. It's essential to recognize that anime and live-action adaptations can't mirror each other precisely because human actors aren't as adaptable as their animated counterparts. In my opinion, we should celebrate these emerging adaptations, as they bring our imaginations to life.
Thank you Netflix to not ruin this IP.
Sanyanggaedeul (2023)
Superb !
Loved the story. Story on money lenders quite relevant. Brought memories back about the Covid days...can't believe what all of us in the world went through during those times. Have to mention the main characters beautiful bodies...hard work they have put in. Well rehearsed actions and fighting scenes , and the story plot , Had me laughing and crying some scenes. Complex and wicked bad guys, a show to watch with your best friends. Has like a 90's vibe in the sentimentality and loyalty of the characters. Quite an adventure.
In overall , its so good series, Good action scenes + emotions + superb acting 10/10
go and watch it you will not regret.
The Diplomat (2023)
Need season 2 asap!!
Keri and Rufus are the salt and pepper anchor to the state dinner that is "The Diplomat." People have said elsewhere, "too much dialogue; not enough action." They forget or never learned that character development *is* plot (action), which in this case is advanced through carefully constructed dialogue and near-flawless execution. (IMO, the link between Eidra and Stuart isn't believable and, therefore, the show gets stuck when those two are on screen.) Michael McKean, who was brilliant in "Better Call Saul," was a horrible choice for POTUS here. Just think: "Spinal Twist" in a suit and tie. Also poorly cast: Miguel Sandoval as Secy of State. Neither character is believable. Great sexual tension between Gyasi and Russell, with Sewell as the "tragically devoted" spouse. "The Diplomat" is not as smart as "House of Cards," not quite so breakneck as "West Wing" - though it's close - and not such an all-you-can-eat nomenclature buffet as "Patriot." But what is written here, the actors carry through 8 episodes that form a truly binge-worthy Season 1. "Please, sir, may I have some more?"
Beef (2023)
What I just watched !!
I aint even done with this show yet, but i had to go ahead and give it a review. It's absolutely great - very frustrating, but also very funny. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's amazing to see different Asian representation. I love how they show this side of Asian people that we're not always shy, quiet, reserved, nice. We get angry, expressive, bold, confident, outgoing etc. Excellent representation with an astounding storyline and screenwriting. And i'm about halfway in now, and i'm already impressed by the amount of character development going on in a 10-episode series.
Very cool.
10/10.
Wednesday (2022)
I Didn't Expect That !
Started watching this with minimal expectations and have been pleasantly surprised with how good it has turned out to be ,
This series is a spectacular feat from the twisted mind of Tim Burton. Not only is Wednesday Addams portrayed in all her glory by the exceptionally talent Jenna Ortega but she has been updated to appeal to today's audience both ethnically and socially accurate. The mysteries are cleverly built and the performances from the rest of the cast are utterly captivating. Bravo to the impressive cgi monster that has been terrifically brought to the screen on a Netflix budget.
Final word - give it a try, you might be surprised...
1899 (2022)
I can't get enough
Wow just wow , I'm in love with this show
Hands down To the show that beat down house of dragon and lord of the rings in my opinion
This show is just a perfection in all part
It's a big win for Netflix network after a bad year
Well made and well written and great acting and phenomenal cinematography and I think I should say it's better to watch it while you turned off your light
But in general it's truly one of best shows this year if it's not the best
And the best part is that it stuck in your head and
That's why I can't get enough
I just come back for more and want an answers
I hope the show got what it deserve.
The Sandman (2022)
What a brilliant ride !
Just Wow! One of the best series of the year so far. The acting, plot, and world design were perfect, Really great , In some ways I think it actually improves on the source material. Casting was really good especially Dream who hit it out of the park.
