Does not live up to its promise
26 May 2024
This movie sounded OK and had a rating of 7.5 on IMDB. Normally that would mean the movie was pretty good. Not in this case! Most of the way through this movie it did not make sense, and I kept waiting for something to actually happen to make it interesting. Something finally DOES happen near the end, and I liked that it is something completely unexpected, but it doesn't save the movie from being a disappointing 4 out of 10. The acting was OK, although the main character was pretty irritating and of course she had to have the obligatory best friend of another race. I'm a fan of Alison Brie, so that helped. I can't say I'd actually recommend this movie to anybody though.

Quality New Zealand drama
11 December 2023
A quality NZ-made drama set in the capital city of Wellington, on and around some of the coastline. It was great seeing the Wellington backdrop and trying to guess where it was.

I watched the six episodes over a couple of days after seeing social media comments about how good it is. I have to agree. I've just finished watching, and am missing it already.

I don't agree at all with the reviewer who said it's slow and boring. There were some phenomenal acting performances from several of the cast and the series has a suspenseful storyline, which keeps you guessing.

I didn't rate it higher due to the swearing and nudity. Come on scriptwriters, every second word doesn't need to be the F word just to show how hip you are. That's just lazy writing. And the female nudity felt OTT and unnecessary. Other than that, I really liked it.

Great movie
20 November 2023
I'm surprised at the lowish IMDB rating. I loved this movie the first time I saw it, and have watched it at least three or four times since then. The plot is amazingly clever, and still remains complex and interesting even after several viewings.

Melissa George does a great job with quite a complicated role. I would have liked to see more of Liam Hemsworth, but maybe that's just me!

This movie is on my list of all time favourites, which includes The Matrix, The Butterfly Effect, The Prestige, Twelve Monkeys, and Memento. So if you like those types of movies, I predict you will love this too.

Great ending
20 August 2023
Yes, I agree with others that there are definitely some questionable decisions made by the crew on more than one occasion. Putting that to one side, the movie is well worth a watch if you like science fiction. I've watched it twice now. With similarities to Alien and other movies, it's not entirely original, but, heck, what an ending.

I liked most of the actors, especially Jake Gyllenhaal, and the spaceship interiors were suitably claustrophobic. There was a good amount of suspense, which had me needing to resist the urge to fast forward to escape the tension.

For me, it's a solid seven out of ten. Well above average.
