Doctor Who: 73 Yards (2024)
Russell T Davies genius
To all those doubters who had written off the latest series of adventures of Dr Who in their latest incarnation think again.
After "Space Babies" and "The Devil's Chord" got, in my opinion, far too much unfair criticism (there were many good signs that the writers had not lost their way) we then had the excellent "Boom" which was most enjoyable and showed promise for the future.
But this, the fourth episode, "73 yards" is pure genius from the mind of Russell T Davies and smooth editing by Chris Roebuck - and I dare you not to love this clever emotion filled bundle of joy from start to finish. It has everything you need to be a rollercoaster. Watch it twice to make sure you get the full effect!
Millie Gibson steals the show - that's not a spoiler
Sian Phillips as well! What more could you want!!!! Not a spoiler either - just a delight to see her.
Please love this.
Mr Bates vs. The Post Office (2024)
The greatest miscarriage of justice portrayed brilliantly
Simply the worst mistake by a British authority ever and incredibly told here by a superb cast.
The Post Office is already hated and this will remind people just how badly these poor sub-postmasters were treated all because of an appalling computer system.
Toby Jones is, as ever, simply a joy to behold and one very much feels the injustice and pain suffered by sub-postmasters and mistresses two decades ago. The Horizon system was a terrible thing!! This beautiful dramatisation really hammers home just how terrible.
This is after only seeing one episode - I can't wait to see the other three.
Great to see Will Mellor again.
Plebs: Soldiers of Rome (2022)
Wonderful end
The people who have given bad marks for this are utter morons. What is it you were expecting?
The whole idea of Plebs is that it is supposed to be stupid and deliberately rubbish.
It is actually bloody brilliant.
Beautifully done stuff from the boys. Some wonderful guest actors on the way and just a perfect end to years of hilarity.
I would like to gather the people that slagged this off together in one room and then let tigers eat them.
Or something equally Roman!!!!!!!
By the way this last part of my review is to use up the characters that I need to use otherwise it does not meet the strict criteria.
Brian and Charles (2022)
Incredibly beautiful film
Simply incredible. It is a modern Frankenstein in many ways but just beautiful and such a feel good movie.
I laughed constantly at the hilarious visual and audio thrills and fell in love with Charles, but Brian is simply wonderful - David Earl - very much influenced by his time with Ricky Gervais I am sure - puts on a simply divine performance.
It's really a Dad not wanting his son to grow up. The way Charles is developed as a child and then an anarchic teenager is absolutely superb.
Miss this at your peril because it's worth more than ten out of ten.
I will never think of cabbages in the same way.
Our Flag Means Death (2022)
Aaaaaabsolutely superb - pirate madness
This is simply brilliant. I have only watched one episode and have already fallen in love with the characters. The fact Joel Fry is in it made me watch it. I am so glad I did.
Rory Kinnear, one of my favourite actors is in episode one - I didn't know this until he appeared.
A complete rag bag band of pirates and an upper class captain who is simply useless but tries.
Cannot wait to watch the rest of this and will probably binge watch it ad it's infectious.
Black Sails meets Monty Python - with a director to die for of course. Jojo Rabbit style stuff - bonkers but beautiful.
Watch it people. I arrrrrsk you to.
Christmas Carole (2022)
Excellent modern version Bah Humbug
The people who have given this poor marks are the real Scrooges. It is very enjoyable and the Morecambe and Wise section is simply epic.
I imagine the bad markers didn't get what they wanted for Christmas and are still sulking.
So it's a rip off of Dickens and Scrooged - so what?????
I would like to stick a sprig of holly into the hearts of the poor markers and make them cheer up a bit.
There should be more stuff like this on tv - and it's British for Dickens' sake.
Will happily watch this every Christmas without fail and will be happy in the knowledge that the miseries who didn't like this are watching utter rubbish (serves them right)
Monster (2022)
Genius portrayal of a monster who you actually feel sorry for at times
Absolutely incredible performance and whilst it's frightening what Dahmer did it's evident that his parents completely messed him up and created the monster themselves.
At times you can actually feel sorry for Dahmer and that is down to the genius performance given by Evan Peters.
In fact I didn't realise it was Evan Peters until the fourth episode - having seen him in AHS it has made me want to watch it all over again as well as Dahmer.
Truly incredible but of course the actual story is very unsettling
Ten out of ten For every aspect of this amazing production. Evan Peters deserves awards.
The Goodies: Caught in the Act (1970)
Hilarious
Mollie Sugden pre Are You Being Served
It's in black and white
It's brilliantly performed and there are jokes a plenty.
This was 1970 for Heaven's sake - no pc rubbish back then. It's so sad that all the snowflakes never knew proper comedy when nothing mattered. It's all " I'm offended" by this and "I'm offended" by that nowadays. Nobody gets hurt, no one is abused, no one is exploited. It's simply beautiful stuff and Messrs Oddie, Garden and Brooke-Taylor are divine.
Simply superb and some great Bill Oddie songs to boot. Bill Oddie sucks sherbet and Tony Blackburn gets some stick as he should!!!!
The Goodies rule ok!!!!
Ghosts (2019)
Full of brilliant spirit(s)
Absolutely wonderful show and I am currently on my third haunting of it and have even got the wife into it - and she is very difficult to please!!!
Superb characters who are of course the writers too. Hilarious stories with many clever dialogue exchanges for the ghosts from different eras.
Wonderful actors of course make this work too and this lot are above and beyond.
Those who have given this bad marks really ought to try and watch it again - or become ghosts themselves as they might have more fun than being alive and miserable.
My favourite comedy show by miles.
Spirited and simply beautiful.
The Sandman: Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope (2022)
Wonderfully brilliant beautiful and enthralling
Simply divine stuff. More more more please.
Two superb stories and just so magically done.
I simply adore this series. Will watch it all again to see if I missed anything.
The Sandman: Lost Hearts (2022)
Genius
The people who want stuff at 100 miles an hour are the ones who give this brilliant work of art a bad score.
You have to be patient and just enjoy the wonderful performances and awesome scenery.
The Sandman: The Sound of Her Wings (2022)
Utter genius
I really do not understand the poor marks given for this absolute masterpiece - although it seems people gave up during episode one!!!!!
That rather sums up many people - who just don't understand true brilliance or need everything explained to them
This is sensational.
The Sandman: A Hope in Hell (2022)
Utter genius
Incredible. That's all you need to know.
Without doubt the greatest series since Game of Thrones and simply beautifully made, produced and acted out.
Absolute gold.
The Sandman: Sleep of the Just (2022)
Absolutely Dreamy
First rate stuff without a doubt.
The cast alone suggests that this will be a total winner and it is. Superbly played out and beautifully manipulated through time and joyous conclusion.
Bravo.
The Witchfinder (2022)
Genius
This is absolutely brilliant.
I can only assume that the people who have given this bad marks are utter morons. They probably expect their lives to be at 90mph and full of Marvel type excitement.
This is a beautifully crafted series with highly amusing situations and great characters.
Invasion (2021)
Give it time
The people who gave given this low marks obviously want series where everything happens at 90mph and where everything has to be explained to them.
Beautifully filmed and acted.
Brazil (1985)
You can't put a Pryce on genius
Utterly brilliant film.
Full of stars - many of whom are no longer with us - this incredibly simple but complex at the same time film was introduced to me in 1985 and it's still second only to Bladerunner in my favourite films.
The casting is a dream.
Cinderella (2021)
Beautiful
All the people who have put low ratings are the sort of reviewers who expect the moon on a stick.
This is a glorious telling of the magical fairy story with plenty of humour and glitz.
Lost in Space (1965)
I got lost in Lost in Space
I was only 7 when the series ended and this all happened before the first moon walk so paved the way for children's imaginations everywhere.
As far as I was concerned this was what outer space was like and I rushed home every week to watch this wonderful programme.
Billy Mumy was me!!!! I built spaceships in my bedroom made from blankets and chairs and my friends would come round so we were able to visit wonderful planets or crash land on one like in the show. My poor mother then had to be an alien who we conversed with.
In the show itself Zachary Smith played by the wonderful Jonathan Harris and the robot played by Bob May stole the show every week.
I wish I had been slightly older to have been able to understand all of Smith's abuse at the mechanical moron. Oh the pain!!
Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS (2014)
A real Kick to Mystify you
The people have put bad reviews want the moon on a stick or they just expect the world to be there purely for them!!!!
This is a really good portrayal of INXS and Luke Arnold is simply superb.
Leonardo (2021)
Superb Stuff
Filks1 obviously wants the moon on a stick and must lead a very sad life.
This is utterly wonderful and Aidan definitely made a good choice.
Fantasy Island (2020)
Superb fun
As usual all the sad people with no imagination who have put bad reviews and who have to have everything put on a plate and cut up for them so they can digest things have missed the point.
This is glorious stuff. Brilliant fantasies in a really lovely film to look at and simply enjoy.
All those with attention deficit disorder should just stick to simple stuff they can understand without having to use one of their two braincells
Tales from the Loop (2020)
Utterly beautiful
The people who have given this bad reviews either have attention deficit disorder or want life to run at a million miles an hour.
This is a beautiful series with lovely stories that are interwoven.
More please
White Lines (2020)
Utterly beautiful
The people who have given bad ratings to this are the real fools.
Beautiful scenery and beautiful idea
Derek (2012)
Genius
I have binge watched the series having seen 'After life' and I have to say it is absolute genius stuff.
Ricky Gervais is simply brilliant but the script is so clever. Wonderful characters particularly the revolting Kev. Comedy bliss
