Ferdinand (2017)
Charming family film
I find this movie to be a sweet, thoroughly entertaining Blue Sky family picture.
The titular character himself is great. Ferdinand is a character that always wants to do the right thing and makes the people/animals around him more compassionate and caring.
And all the supporting characters here are great, from Ferdinand's caretaker Nina to his newfound best friend Lupe and all the other bulls, this movie makes all the characters likable and easy to root for.
The animation in this film is great too. It's colorful and vibrant.
Most importantly, this film always manages to keep it's finger on the pulse of the characters. And that's what makes Ferdinand a true winner.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
One of my favorite movies of all time
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is an incredible follow-up to the already stellar Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Dawn ups the ante, but never loses touch with it's heart. It's also a great example of a "bigger, better" sequel.
The characters here are compelling (Both the humans and apes). The acting is superb by everyone. Andy Serkis gives another Oscar-worthy performance as Caesar. And Toby Kebbell gives an equally incredible performance as Koba.
Jason Clarke is great as the maim human lead of the film, and Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Gary Oldman all give great support.
This movie is immaculately helmed by Matt Reeves. The cinematography is beautiful, the action scenes are awesome and all of the emotional payoff towards the end of the film is satisfying.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of my all-time favorite films. And it only proves that the Planet of the Apes franchise remains one of the best blockbuster franchises of all times.
Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2018)
It put a huge smile on my face
Having grown up with both Scooby-Doo and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, I couldn't have been more excited to watch this movie. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to watch it when it first came out. It actually took me six years just to be able to sit down and finally watch it.
This movie honestly feels more like a Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie with Scooby-Doo in it then the other way around. Which I thought was a good thing, because Batman: The Brave and the Bold had been off the air for 7 years, until this movie rejuvenated the franchise.
Diedrich Bader is yet again great as Batman as are all the other voice actors in this film, who are reprising their iconic roles from both respective franchises.
The movie is also riddled (pun intended) with fan-service and manages to combine all the Batman and Scooby-Doo characters into an epic crossover film, that I will definitely be revisiting in the future.
