You're Next (2011)
Fantastic Horror From Start To Finish
I'm not going to beat around the bush here. "You're Next" is the best horror movie I have seen in quite some time and I watch at least one horror movie a week. It had everything that a horror movie should have. Creepy atmosphere, fast pace, huge body count, lots of blood/gore, nudity, a few laughs and a creepy soundtrack. It had a few cool twists, I was able to call it out fairly quickly but that didn't bother me. It takes the best parts of home invasion flicks, the best parts of slasher movies while keeping the "whodunnit" feel which I thought was cool. Plus the ending was AWESOME. I enjoyed this tremendously and I'm pretty jaded when it comes to horror since I've seen so many and a ton of awful ones. This one however, is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend it to any horror fan and to anyone looking for a good solid horror flick. If you don't like it then I'm not really sure what would be considered a good horror movie because for me, you can't get much better than this.
Wrong Turn 5 (2012)
Awesome Gory Fun
Being a fan of the Wrong Turn series since the first one came out, I was pretty stoked to see this one. The first two movies were great, the 3rd one was decent and the 4th one was pretty awesome. This one is no exception. This actually may be one of my favorites.
It's quick paced with tons of gore, which is the way a horror movie should be. Acting was decent and quality good. The story isn't anything new except for that added a "father figure" type character for the killers, who is played by horror icon Doug Bradley. They didn't explain who he was or why he became that father figure, but who really cares? I didn't. I'm sure if they make a 6th one, which I'm sure they will, it might explain that but if not, it doesn't bother me none.
If you're a fan of these movies, I see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy this. It's a fun time.
Werewolf Fever (2009)
Finally a new Werewolf movie that is good!!
I am a HUGE Werewolf fan. I'm always on the look out for new movies involving Werewolves. Unfortunately, most of the time they are really bad. But I am very happy to say that Werewolf Fever was actually a lot of fun and pretty dang good. With the movie only clocking in at 66 minutes, they wasted no time getting the fun started. The pace didn't drag and they didn't elaborate on plot, which is good in my book. Why was there a Werewolf? Who cares, all that matters is that there is one trying to kills you. The quality was pretty good for a B movie. Granted the acting was pretty bad but what do you expect? It had some humor, a good dose of blood and gore and unique and pretty cool Werewolf. I'm really picky when it comes to the appearance of Werewolves and although this one looked different, it was cool to see a different take on the creature. Overall, I would definitely recommend this for any horror fan. It's a fun time!
FleshEater (1988)
A fun gore fest with a huge body count
I usually love 80's flicks. They are so cheesy but so much fun to watch. Especially a good zombie flick. Right off the bat, I liked the atmosphere of this movie. You could easily tell it was creepy. It's definitely a B movie but the quality was shot well. This was no doubt a 'campy' movie. The acting wasn't great by any means, but it was tolerable. Typical 80's acting. The plot was no different than any other zombie movie but that's what I love about it. Stupid teens getting attacked by the undead or the living dead rather. The action started right off the bat which is a great thing. The music was spooky and quite creepy at times. I was also impressed with the makeup effects. Fairly realistic for the time it was made. High body count with nice gore. Overall I really enjoyed this. A classic gore fest with gratuitous nudity for anyone who loves gore, high body count, boobs, zombies and horror. A very good underground zombie film. A must see for horror hounds.
Day of the Dead (2008)
A remake? No. Great gore fest zombie romp? Yes.
So what is with all the awful reviews on this? I mean come on, this movie rocked. Yeah so it wasn't the greatest and yes I do know it doesn't follow the original whatsoever, but this was a heck of a good time. What's with all the bashing? I am a HUGE fan of the original Romero films, and yes, this wasn't even close to par with those but this wasn't nearly as bad as people have said it is. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. It is your typical zombie flick that we've seen a hundred times but who cares? It is still fun to watch. You have to have an open mind. If you truly love horror, you should enjoy this. I thought Suvari and the rest of the cast did a good job. I was saddened at Rhames small role though. This had gore galore, which in my book is awesome. The gore was OK, it was CGI and I did think it could have been better, but it wasn't horrible. The zombies looked pretty cool, they weren't the lame zombies we've seen too many times. The story is nothing new but I didn't care and neither should you. If you want a good fun gore fest, then this should work just fine. Don't expect high quality, just look forward to enjoying yourself and you will be satisfied. I know I was. Next up is Diary of the dead. Can't wait.
Tooth and Nail (2007)
Solid horror film but it needed more gore..
I went into to this movie excited. I knew it would be good and it was. I was a little disappointed in the medium pace and moderate gore, but the story was well thought out and the acting was excellent. The atmosphere of the movie was very eerie and the music intensified it quite well. Me being a blood and gore freak, I expected more. It did have some good scenes but this kind of movie calls for more. But I still enjoyed it no doubt. I thought it was solid. I do wish it would have sped up a little as it did drag here and there. But it didn't really take away from the suspense. I like Robert Carradine and Rider strong. I felt Carradine should have had a bigger role, but sadly he didn't. His death scene was pretty cool though. I thought it was the best of the film. Overall I thought it was a good solid horror thriller that had good atmosphere and great acting. Well worth a watch.
The Rage (2007)
Classic! The way a horror movie should be.
Wow. This movie had it all. From the first 10 minutes, you know this movie will be a blast. I did anyway. Of course you will probably have to be a hardcore horror/gore fan to enjoy this ride. You can't go in watching this expecting a high quality Emmy nominated horror flick. You have to have an open mind and should probably be in the mood to witness some nasty gruesome fun. I LOVED it. First off, Andrew Divoff has always been a good actor in my mind and in this movie, he ROCKED. The other actors and actresses, I can't say were good by any means. They were average if not below average. BUT who cares. This movie was fun regardless. I've seen much worse acting in my day. What made this movie shine was its abundant blood and gore. Yeah yeah, the CGI wasn't the greatest but I don't think it took away from the nastiness of it. Plus the makeup they used was excellent. The mutations looked gross and made my stomach queasy, and it takes a lot to effect me that way. The plot was pretty simple, nothing really new, but the action was non stop and exciting. The movie flew by quickly. Time flies when you are having fun. I also found this movie pretty funny in some parts. Maybe it wasn't intended to be, but I laughed quite a bit. If you enjoy a good classic horror film filled with non stop blood and gore, action packed fun, this movie is defiantly for you. True horror fans will appreciate this. I know I do.
Storm Warning (2007)
Horror buffs should appreciate this!!
I had read some good reviews for this "B" movie so I decided to check it out, and I am glad that I did. The movie has a very tense feel to it that made it exciting to watch. Simple story but executed very well. I was pleasantly surprised with the acting and the directing. I've seen too many "B" movies that were horrible, but this one was impressive. It had a good atmosphere and a handful of blood and gore, which in my book is awesome. But this won't be for the easily grossed out. When the gore comes, it comes on strong and defiantly does not disappoint. I enjoyed this very much. I didn't recognize any of the actors, but they were all very good in the roles. The two main characters did a very good job making us sympathize their situation and the "bad" guys executed their parts perfectly. They were very convincing, I actually believed they were what they were portraying. Check it out if you enjoy and good quality horror/thriller flick.
