The Locksmiths (2022)
Take a trip to Eagle Rock
Really enjoyed this independent comedy. I've always been a fan of Stanley's short films/documentaries and am glad that he now has an original feature to showcase as well. The film is filled with clever flourishes and nods to "Cult" classics. I know that upon repeat viewings I will be delighted by the layered plot devices and characterization. Great job by David Lahti as always. The characters are unique and resonant. You can see moments of amateurism, especially in the lesser cameos, but the core performaances are transportive. The filmmaking is mature, yet jovial. Can't wait to see it again!!!
Sheepshit (2008)
Impartial Review
No FMJ, but dark comedy nonetheless.
There were a couple times where I, almost, peed myself laughing. Excellent wordplay and performances throughout. Professional attitude and undertaking with a nice little story to tell. There were a couple of plot points which could have been expanded upon a little more and shown, but it's never a bad thing leaving stuff to "the" vivid imagination. I think I've been to the bar where it was shot. All told, a tidy undertaking which is better than watching a syndicated rerun of Seinfeld.
Note quite: Chris Partlow, Bunny Colvin, Tommy Carcetti, Snoop, Dukie, Johnny Boy(the kid that played Telly in KIDS), Cool Lester Smooth, The Bunk, and McNulty; but hey, what is?
Real, yo.
