Israelism (2023)

Young, Jewish US Israel backers have their eyes opened when living in Israel
22 November 2023
A lot of "1" ratings with nothing substantial in them looks like an organized smear campaign. The film is not an "opinion piece", it's an account of growing up Jewish in the US, going to Jewish schools, joining Jewish community organizations, and learning unqualified support for Israel. Going to Israel opens their eyes to a very different reality than what they had been led to believe. It's personal accounts of real people who have to come to terms with life-changing realizations. Visiting Gaza and the West Bank, even joining the Israeli Army gives them a perspective that this film brings across vividly and heartbreakingly. Not to be missed!

A little bit of all the good stuff
16 February 2021
A whole lot of Star Wars, a bunch of Star Trek, some Flash Gordon, and a hint of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Probably others I missed. Great fun, some familiar faces, and Sybil Danning in a barely-there sparkly red outfit.

Reasonably entertaining, but many inaccuracies
11 April 2016
It's an entertaining story, but it feels like the characters are stereotypes, not real people. Perhaps more grating is the fact that inaccuracies and anachronisms abound. The time is 1916, but there are several terms used which never appeared in English at the time. The character of May uses the term 'brainwashed', which first appeared - in the US - in the early 1950s during and after the Korean War; an apparently British character says 'lootenant' when the correct British pronunciation is 'leftenant' (for some mysterious reason, but that's another discussion). When giving absolution, the priest uses 'Holy Spirit', which only came into use after Vatican II around 1963; 'Holy Ghost', was the term used by Catholics until that time. These are just the things that jumped out at me in the first two episodes.
