Great movie-documentary on the old Isan
4 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
There is not really such a good witness of the old life in the northeastern region as the one that represents this movie. The movie follows different families living on a village, showing us different conflicts, problems and traditions that the people use to face and follow. The story is set in a very dry year, showing the consequences of the lack of rain for the people, and so how did they manage to live.

Some of the topics we can see here, is the community conflicts between different ethnics, sex and marriage, haunting animals, fishing, singing, praying, dancing, flirting and all this things i should not mention, that are the culture, but i do, because its obligatory to write more lines to send a review...

The "morlam" music fits perfectly to give a blue tone to the story. And there are some nice details about the thaification in Isaan, like the children singing the silly nationalistic songs that they learn in school.

Very recommended to those interested in Isaan farmers and village life, as the other movie of the director: Tongpan, witch is easier to find in the net than this one.

This is what PLeng pua chiguit was about.

Living in Thailand a few years I've come to see that most movies are incredibly sallow and lucking of any political interest as discussion is not a cultural value in the country. This movie, was for that, a great surprise for me. As I studied the political movement of the three freedom years, from 1973 to 1976, I realised that this movie is one of the best representations of the student movement and it's feelings. Educated middle class people trying to get the farmers involved in their rights life.

The story itself is a very common story between farmers, and its well told. But is probably the chance to see the way of living of the farmers what makes the movie so nice, as a documentary of the people in the northeast region, Isaan.

I recommend this movie for the ones interested in knowing how farmers live in Isaan, and the way some people tried to help them in that moment in the history of Thailand, that sadly ended with a famous massacre in the 6th of October of 1976.

The works and thoughts of a non-violent revolutions visionary
30 January 2012
Or why is important to keep fighting without violence to get a healthy people's revolution.

This is a great and not well known documentary of the works and opinions of a man who shows once again that ideas have repercussions. Gene Sharp has influenced pacific revolutions all around the globe and will keep guiding them with their revolutionary manuals to go from dictatorship to democracies. Or from tyrannies to people's governments. The documentary goes quite well trough the passed revolutions influenced by Gene and some of the leaders of it. It shows basically that people have power, even in the worst regimes, and this is priceless.

I warn you, watching and getting to know this could be extremely helpful for the people in your country.
