twenty20 prequel!!
2 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
the reason why i call this a twenty20 prequel, is that this film has a distinct similarity to the 2008 all star cast film. even though there is no Mohanlal, it does feature Mammooty, Jayaram, Suresh Gopi and a relatively unknown national award winning Tamil superstar Vikram!!! this is also a crime/action thriller directed by Joshi, who is not bothered about killing off superstars halfway or towards the end of the film( as was evident with Dileep in twenty20, Jayaram and Suresh Gopi in dhruvam).Film has too many flashback, sometimes which can irritate viewers. Sorry if this is already a plot spoiler.

The film focuses on the powerful Mannadiyar family who are viewed as God by the community. Whenever a problem occurs to anyone, they would ring the bell located in mannadiyar's courtyard. Mannadiyars would only go to sleep after they found an answer to the problem. Narasimha Mannadiyar(Mammooty) is the head of the family and is kind of people's king who call him 'thampuran' as sign of respect. his brother Veerasimha Mannadiyar(Jayaram) is everything to him and always tries to fulfill his ambitions. Veerasimha's one such ambition is pursue his MBA career in England,to which Narasimha agrees. but while on the way to the airport, Veerasimha gets brutally murdered with his friend.

the rest of the film is how narasimha and his trusted associates Bhadran(vikram),priest-to-be turned police officer Jose Nariman(suresh gopi)and DIG marar(Janardanan) fight to bring feared serial killer Hyder(who is behind veerasimha's murder)to justice.

Hilarious Flick!!
15 May 2009
Another classic from the fabulous trio of Mohanlal, Sreenivasan and Sathyan Anthikad. A typical storyline of then times, casting the hardships faced by an individual in the society and all the weight of family on his shoulders. Though it has a striking similarity to the film T.P Balagopalan M.A, this film is even funnier.

Mohanalal is brilliant as the frustrated house owner Gopalakrishna Panikkar. Ridiculous attempts by him to persuade the occupants to vacate his house and the annoyance he causes the occupants are worth watching. Karthika also excels as the angry and confident head of the house who boldly withstands the pressures of the house owner. Sreenivasan as always makes the audience laugh with the role of an inspector. All in all a brilliant family flick. If you like gandhinagar 2nd street, nadodikattu and other anthikad classics, then you will definitely add this one to your likable list.

Introducing Sagar Alias Jacky!!
19 March 2009
A super action thriller as usual by K.madhu. Jacky(mohanlal) is a renowned underworld don in the state, well supported by the chief minister's son shekarankutty(suresh gopi). together they run the clandestine gold business, with Jacky cleverly evading police and shekarankutty ruthlessly eliminating anyone who crosses his path. But tensions rise in the camp, as a result of jealousy from shekarankutty for Jacky's continued rise as underworld don from humble beginnings and Jacky refusing to be involved in shekaran's more extravagant business. gradually they become arch-rivals and there follows bloody violence with shekarankutty desperate to dispose of Jacky who in turn is desperate to come clean to support his mother and girlfriend who is getting discharged from prison after serving time for murder.

mohanlal as sagar alias Jacky is awesome(especially when introducing himself to ambika as "im Jacky, sagar alias Jacky" and puts on his ray-ban sunglass!!), suresh gopi as shekarankutty and ambika as news reporter aswathy also excels in supporting roles. More sagar alias Jacky thrills and chills watch the S.N Swamy scripted Irupatham Noottandu...

A unique action thriller
13 March 2009
the tried and tested duo of K.Madhu and S.N Swamy combines again for an action thriller that is not usual to Malayalam film audiences.this film deals with a group of drug dealers who hijack a bus, containing a VIP and his family who were on a picnic trip. the hijackers take them to a deserted palace(bungalow) inside a forest. their aim is to pressurize the police and the government to release some of their colleagues in police custody charged with smuggling. with time running out and well trained hijackers starting to show hardly any mercy for the hostages, the government and police have no option but to call on an ex-cop Imran Ali(played by Mohanlal)with special training in commando operation to come up with a miracle. the carefully planned out thrilling commando operation carried out by Imran Ali forms the rest of the film.

the main antagonist in the film is Lalu Alex, the drug lord and his right hand men played by Babu Antony and Vijayaraghavan. Other important roles are played by sukumaran the police chief, revathi the tour guide, presumably the lead heroine if there was one! and also suresh gopi, mukesh, srinath, janardhanan, innocent, prathapchandran and C.I Paul.

Mohanlal as Imran Ali excels, so does lalu Alex as Charles the villain. suresh gopi and mukesh has sort of unimportant roles, as one wud expect with both of them yet to stamp their authority in the industry those days. with modern equipments and martial arts on show this film is a watchable one.

A little Disappointing.....
1 January 2009
First of all credit should be given to Dileep and all the members associated with AMMA, in organizing and presenting nearly all the superstars of malayalam industry in one movie. But the film alone was a let down for me. First of all the plot could have had a better or even a different theme, rather than just another ordinary crime/action sequence alone. Also people like Jayaram,Kavya and all them youngsters(Prithviraj,Jayasurya, kunchako etc..) had horribly weak roles. Now I'm not a big fan of all of them but could have been dealt bit better by director Joshi. Climax is guessable. So in a way you could say this film would have been a big flop because of its story; but was saved by the charismatic trio of mohanlal, mammooty and suresh gopi(although gopi is not in the same class as M&M!!). Nevertheless a watchable flick for the young generation viewers and mohanlal fans, but not necessarily one for the oldies.
