The Idol (2023)
It has artistic merit
This is a story of extreme power dynamics of a relationship.
Good acting by the whole cast; good sound track too.
There is probably excessive sexual content, but it is actually integral to the plot (unlike so many other series).
It may be politically incorrect to say so, but there are people like this.
It is a dark tale, but quite watchable if you don't read all the negative hype first.
Lily Rose Depp is brilliant, The Weeknd plays a vile and unlikable character, and does so successfully.
It will probably be a cult movie in the future, once the hullabaloo dies down and people just watch it.
The act of creating is murky and complicated, and includes artists hyping each other up. The makers try to show this difficult process.
Amsterdam (2022)
Simply a great movie
Simply a great movie; characters who have character, a few twists, some unpleasant reality, some fantasy, some art.
This is not a formula "action" film, but I thought it made every second count, there wasn't ever a dull moment.
The excitement in this film is generated by emotion and history instead of extended fight sequences, car chases, and explosions.
De Niro's work was below his usual standard, other players distinguished themselves with great performances.
There are a couple of political issues that might upset some viewers, and I suspect that's the true root of the low review score.
The plot at the center of this tale really did occur, and it should not be forgotten.
Arde Madrid (2018)
Great show
Wonderful characters, great writing, directing, and editing.
Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish, my only criticism is that there isn't more of it.
Watch Arde Madrid.
To nisi (2010)
A must see
An absolutely amazing work; fiercely emotional, gorgeously filmed, each character full of life.
I'm not going to say anything about the story, just watch it for yourself.
Gentleman Jack (2019)
Excellent
Suranne Jones is amazing in this role; her range of emotion lights the screen.
I hope she wins every award available for this.
The characters are consistent and believable, production values all top class.
This isn't an LGBT rant, it's a great story well told.
I do hope there will be another season.
Delhi Crime (2019)
realism
Not Hollywood, not Bollywood.
No added car chases, explosions, or shootouts; most of us know the story from the news, and the outcome.
Yet this series keeps you watching, emotionally engaged, without a boring moment.
The realism is wonderful, editing and cinematography top class.
A view of India rarely seen, and worth seeing.
Quacks (2017)
Witty, funny, well writen
Well researched, performed, directed, and edited too.
This is the sort of fun, intelligent program that the BBC was once known for.
We thoroughly enjoyed the series and sincerely hope there will be another season.
Dear White People (2017)
Well written, directed, and acted
I'm surprised at the vehement reviews; it seems that some people are upset by the politics. This middle aged white male thinks the program is well written, well acted, and well cut. The characters are sharp and their interactions believable. I've enjoyed watching the series; I hope it will see another season.
