Sam Was Here (2016)
I wanted to love this so much and I really didn't
I generally love this style movie - southern Gothic, desert landscapes, creepy trailerparks, abandoned motels. The cinematography is beautiful, there is no doubt about that. Unfortunately this movie is 99% aesthetic. It fully relies on these images. The story only holds your attention for about 20 minutes, after which the movie becomes boring, predictable and pointless. The vast majority of the movie is not original. Nothing really catches you off guard. The pictures are pretty, that's it.
And then the ending - oh boy. It's one thing to have an unexplained ending... but to have barely a story with an unsatisfying ending and zero context provided, it just becomes frustrating. Not to mention "Eddy" - someone probably put a lot of thought into those shots, and to be honest, instead of creeping me out it just annoyed me.
What a damn shame. Don't waste your time. You're better off watching Southbound. This is a bunch of pretty pictures with fragments of a really unsatisfying story.
Britney Ever After (2017)
What even is this.
This movie is ridiculous.
The writing is atrocious. It shows all the basic facts that were incredibly obvious, doesn't hit on any of the real blank spaces about Britney's life, and fills in any small blanks around said basic facts with shallow, empty interpretations.
It's like the writers have no concept of the human soul. Because Britney has no soul in this movie.
And if I hear the actress playing Lynn say "SUGAR" in that atrocious way one more time...
Dead Story (2017)
I don't usually review - but you need to know how bad this is.
As the title states - I don't normally go out of my way to review movies on here. However, this movie is so incredibly bad, it barely deserves one star, and you need to know it really isn't worth your time. Not even a little bit - not even if you like cheesy or campy horror. This isn't even amusingly bad. It's just bad.
The acting is an absolute atrocity. The actors' emotions are either completely absent or they are so over the top it makes you cringe. I suppose they only have a horrible script to work with - with holes in the plot, unnatural and illogical dialogue (akin to "did you feed the dog" - "yes there are 12 trees" - THAT illogical). The script not only drowns in clichés, it also simply makes no sense half the time - this is only highlighted by the actors who look like constant deer in headlights. I have seen deeper acting in high school plays.
How this got made, and more than 1 star, is well beyond me.
There is only one thing "horror" about this movie, and it's the quality. Don't waste your time. Everyone who made this movie is also better off with you not having seen it. Let's forget this ever happened, for their sake.
