Feels more like the Waltons than the lame films from 1982
12 November 2023
Ok yes there are a lot of character inconsistencies in regards to the absence of Mary Ellens son John Curtis who would be more plausible being drafted into Nam than Jonsey was. And the absence of Ben and Cindy's 2nd born Charlie.

You could put the blame on the writers if they were new but these are veteran writers & director from the original series run. The main problem is the network execs who produced the film and figured it's been 11 years since the 1982 movies (that were made for a different network) that the fans probably wouldn't remember. I watched all three reunion films in the 90's I had hoped they would be of the same caliber as the first 5 seasons of the show but could never measure up.

I just re-watched this film tonight and well, I find it sentimental in parts. Far from perfect but a joy to have Richard & Michael back.

Works for me

As a gen x'er who neither read the books or watched the original show I really like this show. It hadn't felt like stranger things till they were stuck in the house in the void (the upside down) but I am digging it all the same. Been a Justin Long fan since he was on the tv show Ed. Long brings the right amount of humour to this at times creepy show.

The only thing that doesn't entirely work is making it episodic. How would it continue ? Unless they are going the way of American Horror Story with self contained seasons as opposed to episodes. I wonder if it will get a srxond season ? I hope so.

The Waltons: The Indiscretion (1981)

Ugh why did this marriage last ?

I agree with the other reviewer that the performances are phoned in especially the scene where Elizabeth tells everyone she leaving for her date and will be out late. Aside from her the actors portraying Erin, Mary-Ellen & Jason are so wooden in this scene.

Aside from that, is it really any wonder why Ike would consider cheating ? From day one Corabeth did not like him, did not want to marry him but still did. I think they both married out of lonliness and stayed together because their relationship is strictly co-dependent.

Corabeth rarely ever addressed Ike as Ike.

Corabeth put on heirs and constantly put down simple country living.

Whenever a handsome man (including the pastors) showed up she would hope to attract. She herself "cheated". So this episode rankles me to no end.

A better ending would've been an end to their marriage of convenience.

Decent 2 part episode

Not the greatest episode but definately engaging. It was also a return to Erin being really immature having burnt the note that curt leaves.

People have beef with the actors not being age appropriate my beef is with she pretty much hates Curt till they kiss and then immediately marries him. At least with David they were dating for awhile, I feel the Curt-Mary Ellen relationship would have been more believable if they didn't get married immediately.

I mean if you take issue with age appropriate look at Richard & Michael, they are only about 10 years apart. That is a far less believable Mother & Son relationship.

Well, it looks cool

I love stop motion animation.

I like horror, gore is great too but when I have no idea who the main character is, where they are and what their purpose is..amazing visuals isn't gonna cut it for me. If you make a film without an ounce of dialogue then you should probably have a narrative. After thirty minutes this film began to bore me.

Impressive and awful at the same time.

Ugh, A poorly executed documess

Warning: Spoilers
Had this primarily been about the trauma Carey must've experienced in regards to feeling neglected by his parents in constant turmoil about his missing brother, and what then lead to the 10 years after Stevens death to become a serial killer. Had they focused on Carey, even with a prison interview. This would've been more compelling. Steven's daughter mentioned her stepfather not much caring for the Stayner family, I would've loved to have known why ? Not to mention the actors from far better 1989 (partially fabricated) miniseries reading from the script and or the writer of the tv miniseries discussing his process were both cringe worthy and unnecessary.

I really didn't like the first two episodes...the camp element of AHS is my least favorite thing. The drive in episode had potential but was cheesy, the killer Santa was okay, was nice to see Glee Alum Kevin McHale. Baal was pretty creepy with a nice double twist ending, Feral was equally as good, but the last episode sucked as bad as the first two. Seriously, this show might work if it wasn't wrapped into the AHS mythos of it's parent show.
