Sins of Our Mother (2022)
Heartbreaking
If you have anyone around you that claims to be special in the sense that they can talk to god or spirits , please stay away from them.
These are super delusional and manipulative people.
They are extremely dangerous and can harm you emotionally and physically.
This documentary is just one sad and scary example. There are several cases (watch House of secrets on Netflix) where such people have taken lives. What amazes me even more is that there are people who fall for these people's stories and get manipulated.
This particular case also shows the inefficiency of the local police, the murder of her husband should have easily been identified as a homicide and not self defence.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Spider-Men : No May home !
The movie is pure Fan-service. Literally everything you can imagine (and probably not) is there and the Audience reactions in the Cinema was comparable to that in Avengers: endgame .
It's not Perfect and there are many plot holes and continuity threads which would need to be cleared in the further marvel movies or shows .
Best parst: Scenes with the three Spidermen- Really works amazingly and is a treat to every Fan.
Worst parts: Scenes with the three Peter parkers. The chemistry just felt very fake and thir tones were just off , also may be its my fault that i didnt rewatch the tobey and Garfield films recently.
Mid credits and end credits scenes are worth waiting For .
Last Knights (2015)
Deserves a higher rating
Not a mindless action flick. I was surprised by how good this movie was compared to the rating it had on imdb.
The movie at it's heart is a tale of loyalty and the sacrifices some people will make to uphold that loyalty.
One Day: Justice Delivered (2019)
Good story , horrible storytelling
This movie is an odd ball. It has a bunch of great actors (not stars) and a decent story but the direction and production values are similar to a low budget C grade movie.
The worst part is that even the good actors are acting badly but I attribute that more to the direction.
If you are willing to ignore the bad aspects, there is a decent story in this film.
This film could have been a great sequel to "A Wednesday" if it was done right. With Anupam kher reprising his role from that film and realizing that The system indeed is flawed and he needs to deliver his own form of justice.
Grimm (2011)
Its like Buffy and criminal Minds mixed into one Show- In a good way
I started watching this to kill time on my Daily train commute (20 Mins one way).
I finish one Episode each day and always look forward to the Next one.
Every Episode has a Decent murder mystery, a Decent Monster villain (with questionable CGI) and there is an overarching story-line -The bigger picture where most of the other characters Fit in.
I also like the support characters-> Hank, monroe and the Captain.
But it does get annoying sometimes that almost all the answers come conveniently to Monroe and/or from the books in Nicks Trailer.
Monroe somehow has all this knowledge of every kind of Wessen , the same Knowledge which is there in Nicks Aunts Grimm Diaries. So kind of makes one of the two Obsolete .
Also Rosalee was introduced as Monroe's love interest and She conveniently has answers to all problems through her Herbs.
Apart m the above issues, I like the pacing of each episode and keep coming back for more.
El guardián invisible (2017)
One of the Best serial killer -Mystery movies in Recent Times
First of all, The IMDb rating of 6.0 for this movie is complete nonsense . This is one of the best mystery movies in the serial killer genre I've seen . They have handled several complex subplots and back stories . This is not a slasher/ gore thriller ,so I guess people expecting blood splatters galore would be disappointed.
The main mystery and the central character have been treated excellently. There are however, a few loose ends and I felt the "monster/ guardian" subplot could have been skipped (or it's something which is part of cultural folklore which I didn't really understand). Overall ,an excellent mystery suspense movie with great atmosphere .
Dhoom:3 (2013)
The Great Bollywood Circus (of B.S.)
The Intro : Jackie cannot Pay his bank loan, and also fails to impress the Investor with his sad so called "great Indian circus" (which BTW is very lame and outdated for 1990, and also there is absolutely NOTHING " Indian " about it) , So what does he do? Points gun to his head, says " Bank waalon, tumhari aisi ki taisi" and Shoots himself, leaving his small child/children to fend for themselves. This to me was one amongst many of the idiotic scenes in the Movie, Normally when you say " tumhari aisi ki taisi " to someone, it normally means we are getting back at them , but here he ends up killing himself? The Clown Thief: Aamir_1 ,wants revenge from the Bank owner , because apparently it was the owners fault that Jackie shroff had a lame circus and couldn't pay his loan. So Sahir robs his Banks dry and throws the money on the street. The Sad part here is that they don't show in anyway how these robberies are committed, the entire action is based on mindless chase sequences once the robbery has already taken place. oh yeah, he writes in Hindi " Bank waalon, tumhari aisi ki taisi" on the bank vaults, which leads the " hapless"Chicago police to call the Great Jai and Ali to solve the case, not because they are good, but because they can read Hindi. The Twist: The only high point in the film comes just before the Intermission, when we see Aamir_1(Sahir) talking to himself in the mirror , which turns out to be Aamir_2 (samar) , his twin who he has hidden from the world to conceal their Magic trick's secret. (The prestige?) . Well, to the credit of the writers, they have given this a very different treatment than the Prestige.Showing the emotions of the twin who has lived his life as a shadow. There is not a single smart thing which abhishek does to find out this Great secret, he just happens to walk into both the Aamirs talking to each other in their bat cave. But then we have more bull crap scenes of action , and oh did I mention that Sahir is also Tony stark , who also has his own Batcave with 3D Holographic screens , and he also has a Bike which is an Autobot and the tumbler who can transform into a Speedboat, submarine, jet booster etc.
The End: Somehow jai knows where the two brothers are going to be in the morning, brings choppers, the force and Katrina (who strips and dances and kisses the mentally challenged aamir before this part) . Sahir makes a deal with AB saying to take him in, but leave Samar free, then for some reason Sahir jumps off the Dam and Samar joins him due to Pact made with Loan fraud dad in their child hood. Katrina for some reason decides to continue at the Lame circus of crap .
What the Movie should/could have been : Jackie Dies while trying to perform a Death defying circus trick to Impress the Investors/Bank owner . The Twins , sahir is the Circus acrobat and Samar is the Rainman (braniac) , and they both combine their skills to Perform the Heists, Samar does the entire planning while Sahir does the execution with his acrobatic skills. The Heists take place at the same time as the Circus where we Have Samar performing, while Saahir completes the Heist just in time to end the show. while on one end, we have witnesses seeing sahir commit the heists, on the other hand, he was performing at the circus, So the cops are in a fix how can one guy be at two places at the Same time. Abhishek's reputation is at stake, and Ali steps in with smart ways to track the truth.
They could have done Sooo much with this movie, but ended up making a half baked mindless action flick.
Geu-rim-ja sal-in (2009)
MIND-BLOWN , Rating of 7 is injustice. deserves 9+
I've been on a Korean movie spree recently , first The Memories of a Murder , then Mother, Old boy and Now This(which to me is the best) . The Plot is solid and éven with its 2+ hour length the Movie's pace doesn't drop for a minute. The characters and their actions/motives are Pretty well sketched out. The only thing I didn't really get completely was the equation between the detective and the scientist woman ,exactly what kind of historythey shared.
This is the director's first Movie, and looking at IMDb profile, I cant see any other movies credit to him in the near future. This kind of a movie deserves a Sequel , specially since the ending pointed towards one.
Ship of Theseus (2012)
A wrong interpretation of the Theseus Paradox
If you are even a moderate reader or in any way are aware of a website called "wikipedia", you would know that the Theseus Paradox (The ship of Theseus) is a paradox that raises the question of whether an object which has had ALL its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object.
This movie uses the Title, but the story is Not at all in sync with the Basic principles of the Paradox. If this was a Story of some guy , who has received most of his organs from different people (like Eyes from A, kidney from B, heart from C etc) and then they showed his change in behaviour or personality then this Title would have worked for me.
Besides the film was slow and the actors spoke like they were reading out monologues. Most of the people who "say" that they liked this film are the Pretentious ones , who think its cool to like anything that is Not typically bollywood. Just coz a movie is slow, has non commercial actors, doesn't have songs and tries to show pain, suffering, poverty and/or depression does not mean that it's a good movie.
Jewel Thief (1967)
45 years and still no match for this Jewel.
This is one of those rare suspense thrillers from the Indian Film industry ( also for some reasons referred to as Bollywood)which keeps you Guessing, engrossed , immersed and entertained right till the very end (Until the not-so fat lady sings). This film was way ahead of its time , it was from an era in which people actually spent time and effort on actually writing a good script. Vijay Anand (who also directed "teesri manzil" ) once again showed that he is the master of suspense . He is also ,in my opinion, one of the BEST at filming Song sequences, be it the sensuous "raat akeli hai" or the elaborate " hoton mein aisi baat" . This movie was on par (if not better) than many of the suspense thrillers which came out of Hollywood in that era.I really hope the Indian Film Industry finds more directors like Vijay Anand, who Value the importance of a good script.
Short Circuit (1986)
Loved it when I was a Kid!
OK, So I saw this movie a loong loong time ago , when I was 10 yrs old (im nearing 30 now). At that Age I did not know what "good screenplay /direction/ camera-work etc " were , Nor do I clearly remember the story. All I remember is that This was One movie That I really enjoyed watching with my whole family . Now that I see the clips, The Robot Johnny-5 seems really well made for a 1986 film special effects. (Bollywood still cannot come up with a decent one in 2013! ) . This movie has been surprisingly Underrated and under recognized. btw...Wall-e Reminded me of Johnny -5!(resemblance is uncanny)
There was another movie which I liked a Lot at that time , I think it was "short circuit" .
Branded (2012)
Why the Bad reviews???? Deserves a 7 at least!
This is a very Relevant subject on which this Movie is based, its a bold attempt by the writers and directors . Not everything worked for me, but the overall concept and execution certainly deserved more than 4.5 rating!! I'm basically gonna write about what i didn't like ,coz if that part was left out , then this movie could have been more well received . They could have omitted the "fantasy" and "surreal" bits (getting struck by lightning, the bath in red cows blood). The part about the main lead actually being able to see the Advertising creatures attached to peoples bodies, or the monsters in the end, could have been kept more limited to just some sort of Metaphor instead of trying to justify it with mystical mumbo jumbo .
The movie has high production values , may be not a block buster starcast but the actors were competent in their Performances.
12 Angry Men (1957)
Magic of a good script
Well, I am So Glad I saw this movie, in today's day and age, when Big Budget, Big-Bang, 3D, sci-fi etc are the Norms for Movies, Sydney Lumet and Reginald Rose Prove that a good story and script are More than enough to Hold the audience for an hour and a half . except the first and last scenes, the whole film has been set and shot inside ONE ROOM!! That just blew my mind away, You wont want to even blink for a second while watching this movie, the screenplay is so gripping . Apart from the step by step revelations of the case , we also get a good look at different characters personalities . Each of them has their own reasons for believing/ not believeing the boys guilt .
Please do watch this Classic.
