Nice portrayal of a partition victim couple
21 November 2013
'Lahore' is a nice film for its accurate portrayal of a partition victim couple who are neighbors and are in love with each other and they live in the city of Lahore. But somehow during the partition the girl is left in Lahore and the boy migrates to India with his whole family because he is a Hindu and anti-Hindu riots break out in the city of Lahore where he used to stay with his family. And now, after partition of India, Lahore has become a part of the newly formed Islamic nation, Pakistan. When the boy reaches India he somehow meets his girlfriend's mother who was there in the same refugee camp. But, he got to know that his lover has been left alone in Pakistan. I won't reveal the story further. Watch it yourself to know exactly what happens after this.

'Lahore' is a nice film which was released in India in 1949, just a couple of years after the partition of India. Therefore, the portrayal of emotions by the actors seems real and authentic. In real life, perhaps some of the actors were also victims of partition. But, i am not too sure about that. It's just a wild guess.

Nargis, Pratima Devi, Karan Dewan and Om Prakash are the lead artists in this film. All these artists have portrayed their roles well and have done justice with their respective roles.

One of Bollywood's Earliest Science Fiction Films
29 January 2013
Shreeman Funtoosh is a story of an unemployed youth Kishore(Kishore Kumar)who falls in love with a beautiful girl Meena(Kumkum). Meena's father Mr.Verma is a scientist(Harindranath Chattopadhyay)who is crazy about his scientific discoveries. Meanwhile,a businessman named Shyam Lal(S.K.Shyam)wants his son Ranjan(Anoop Kumar)to get married to the scientist's daughter Meena. But,Meena loves Kishore. One day, Kishore visits Meena's place and he accidentally gets in contact with the iron rays in her father's laboratory which is also situated in their home. Now, after coming in contact with these iron rays, Kishore becomes a destructive iron man. Whoever gets in contact with his body or touches him gets hurt very badly. After some time, Kishore starts shrinking rapidly at a fast pace and his superpowers start diminishing. On the other hand, the evil businessman Shyam Lal who is also the sponsor of the scientist's project warns him that if he wants to live safely then he will have to marry Meena to Ranjan & he will have to kill Kishore by misusing his scientific knowledge. What happens next? Would Mr.Verma be able to kill his daughter's lover? Would Meena marry Ranjan? What would be the fate of Kishore? To find out watch 'Shreeman Funtoosh'. Acting of all the artists is nice.I don't know if this film was a box-office success or not when it was released in 1965 because the concept of this movie was quite unique for the Hindi movie audiences who were used to watching romantic & social films in the 1960s. Science fiction was a new concept then.

Bollywood Commercial Potboiler from the 1980s
23 November 2012
Pasha(Danny Denzongpa)is a criminal who has entrapped the jailer's(Pran)sister in his false love. When jailer comes to know about his sister's love with a criminal,he orders her to leave his home. After some days, she comes back to his brother with her new-born baby and passes away.

Now,Pasha kidnaps the jailer's son Ashok and teaches him each and every trick of theft.Pasha wants to take revenge from the jailer because once he had put him into jail.Pasha renames Ashok as Suraj(Sunny Deol)and makes him a very big thief.

Many years pass by.Now,Suraj is a youngster. One day,Suraj happens to meet Aarti(Neelam),who runs an NGO to help poor and needy people.Suraj falls in love with Aarti. Now comes Inspector Vijay(Chunky Pandey)into picture. He also loves Aarti. But Aarti has already fallen in love with Suraj.Vijay tells Aarti about Suraj's bad practices. But,somehow,Suraj manages to convince her and promises that he will leave all these bad practices.Vijay always confronts Suraj and warns him to be away from Aarti.

The performances of the actors is good.Sunny Deol & Pran excel in their respective roles.Danny Denzongpa has done full justice with his villainous role.Neelam looks good & acts well. But,the show stealer according to me(it's my personal opinion)is Chunky Pandey. His dialogue delivery is good and he gives good competition to Sunny Deol in this film.Although, when this film had released in 1988,Chunky Pandey was relatively a newcomer. But,even then,he excelled in his role of Inspector Vijay. The confrontation scenes between Sunny Deol & Chunky Pandey are good. Other actors like Paintal & Shakti Kapoor have done well in their respective roles.

Dialogs of this film are good. Music is okay.A couple of songs are good.Main tera tota & Chori Chori yun jab are great songs.

Will Pasha allow Suraj to leave him? Will the jailer be able to capture Pasha and his gang? Who will marry Aarti?Suraj or Vijay?

To find out, watch Paap ki Duniya(1988). It's not a great movie, but it's not that bad either.

My Rating 7/10.

Sachaai (1969)

Good Storyline & Great Performances by Shammi Kapoor & Sanjeev Kumar
19 November 2012
Sachaai was released in the year 1969 when Shammi Kapoor was almost on the verge of getting retired as a romantic hero of Hindi Cinema.Whereas,Sanjeev Kumar was a rising star at that point of time.It was an unusual pair at that point of time because i don't think both these brilliant actors have worked together in many films and perhaps, this may be the only film in which they have shared screen space. It's a treat to watch both these Superstars together.

This film has a great story of two college friends having different ideologies.Shammi Kapoor plays a conman who is dishonest and earns money by fooling innocent people whereas Sanjeev Kumar plays a simple, honest young man who lives with his own set of principles. One day after completing his education,Sanjeev Kumar gets to know about his father's evil practices and he leaves his house angrily to take refuge in Shammi Kapoor's house. But when he gets to know about the ill practices of Shammi Kapoor, he refuses to stay in his house and leaves from there also. Then,Sanjeev Kumar gets in contact with a thief,a character brilliantly played by Pran. What happens next is very interesting.Shammi Kapoor gets in contact with Sanjeev Kumar's sister, played by Sadhana and her mother. How they change his life and how the life of Sanjeev Kumar changes after he meets Pran is very interesting to watch.I won't reveal much about the movie because it has to be seen to understand the importance of good story-telling which used to be the hallmark of yesteryear's Hindi films.

Johny Walker plays side-kick to Shammi Kapoor and is a treat to watch.Other character actors have performed well.Sadhana looks cute and acts well.Pran is brilliant as usual.Helen plays the role of Pran's sister and does justice with her role. But,the movie belongs to Shammi Kapoor & Sanjeev Kumar.Specially, the performance & acting of Sanjeev Kumar in the second half of the film has to be seen to understand. The climax is handled pretty well.I recommend this movie to all the fans of Shammi Kapoor & Sanjeev Kumar.

The songs are good.Specially,Ae dost mere maine duniya dekhi hai is a very hummable duet song sung by Mohd.Rafi & Manna Dey and is picturized on Shammi Kapoor & Sanjeev Kumar.

Recommended to all. My Rating 9/10.

Bewaqoof (1960)

Nice Comedy With a Slightly Hurried Climax
13 November 2012
Bewaqoof(1960)is a nice Hindi comedy movie starring Kishore Kumar, Mala Sinha, I.S.Johar, Pran and others.I.S.Johar directed this movie himself.I won't reveal the plot of this movie.Although,i liked this movie but,i was not satisfied with its climax.According to me,it has an immature climax. If it had a more crispy ending then it would have been great.Otherwise,it's a nice movie to watch it with your family on a Sunday afternoon. Kishore Kumar,Mala Sinha,I.S.Johar,Pran excel in their roles.Other supporting actors also did a commendable job.Specially,i liked the performances of Kishore Kumar & I.S.Johar.I.S.Johar's comic timing is excellent to say the least.

Nice & Simple Hindi Comedy Film of 1980s which is very under-rated
5 March 2012
Ab Ayega Mazaa (1984) is a nice comedy. Farooq Sheikh plays a role of a simpleton loser. Anita Raaj plays his love-interest and looks breathtakingly cute. Raja Bundela acts in a supporting role as Farooq Sheikh's friend. Ravi Baswani & Satish Kaushik also play nice roles in this film. Pankaj Parashar is the director of this film. The city of Delhi is shown as a backdrop in this movie. This film is quite under-rated. Perhaps, it was not a big hit when it got released in the year 1984. But, nevertheless it's a very down-to-earth film made with a lot of sincerity & hard-work. Overall a nice movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy with your family & friends. It's a shame that Bollywood doesn't make movies like these anymore. At least, it's better than most of the current Bollywood comedies which are full of double-meaning dialogs.
