CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Family Affair (2009)
CSI 2.0 Matrix-style
Last season was Lucha Libre to mark the 200th episode! This season opens up a can of whoop-ass with stunning cinematography in an homage to one of my favourite Laurence Fishburne films, The Matrix!! It's a fun opening and very interesting to see a familiar face and how it all ties together. Really enjoy seeing Doc Robbins participate more and more with cases throughout the recent episodes. Each character truly gets a chance to shine and bring substance to their role. Although some scenes were a bit farfetched, a small contrivance here and there doesn't hurt! I enjoy ANYTHING with Garret Dillahunt - he's very good at his craft, which comes across in every scene. Overall, this was a banger episode and a great surprise guest!
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Coup de Grace (2009)
Nothing has changed in 14 years
Although this episode puts forth substantial effort in an attempt to disprove racism and wrong-doing from an armed hypocrite "sworn to uphold the law", it overwhelmingly shows how biased he actually was. It's the same mentality of most of the privileged people in the US that are enraged when called out as racist, yet display inappropriate behaviours and actions on a regular basis. It's almost as if it's inherent rather than a learned behaviour, allowed to persist as a law enforcement officer, which justifies the actions markedly in being supported by their superiors. Aired in 2009, it's only gotten worse in 2023. This episode earned a one out of ten for the preponderance of evidence to the contrary indicates that racism is prevalent within the Law enforcement community.
Community: History 101 (2013)
Just as good as past episodes/seasons
I saw nothing different with this episode versus any of the others. Everything felt the same with respect to dialogue, delivery, comedic timing, and character development. I didn't even know there was a difference in writers until seeing other reviews. Couldn't care less. What bothers me in this or any other TV show is the men cross dressing and the male dean wearing a dress dancing with a man. So it fit the same narrative and comedy style that the original creator and writers produced in past episodes. That cheap, useless, unoriginal "comedy" will always rate poorly with me, regardless of any other genius writing or performance that comes.
Community: Regional Holiday Music (2011)
Hilarious and underrated
Two very over-the-top, hilarious character performances come from Troy (and Abed) at 7:15 mark when they start rapping, ultimately surrounded by fly-girls. Yoip! And of course, the insane singing/dancing by Britta on stage, completely off-key and out of sync! Excluding the mention of holidays or singing, I'm impressed with how well this was done. I don't enjoy musicals or have any interest in glee - so the parody of the mindset was spot-on. This episode is definitely in the top ten of the series.
Community: Remedial Chaos Theory (2011)
Best Community episode
This is the best Community episode and perfectly sums up what the entire series should have been. Well executed by all cast members during every iteration/die roll.
Community: Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking (2011)
Donald Glover
Donald Glover steals the show - every time! His performance just astounds me and it's clear that his talent is way underutilized. Some of the material is bleh but it's always wonderful to see guest stars like LeVar Burton or in another episode (asian Population Studies) Malcolm-Jamal Warner grace the screen with their presence sans hubris. I don't enjoy the reach into equating diversity with tolerance of homosexuality, ever. But actual comedy and genius writing/performances create enjoyable, relatable moments and keep you returning for more.
