The Last of Us (2023– )

9.1? Seriously???
13 March 2023
This show doesn't make me feel I'm wasting my time but doesn't make me anxiously wait for next week or curse at HBO Max for not releasing all the episodes at once either.

I guess people like the hype so even if there's no any 9 show around, they'll find it anyway.

So to all these people, a short reminder... 9 is Sopranos, The Wire, maybe Game of Thrones... not that.

The scale of shows doesn't really starts at 1 and ends at 10, it's more like 7 to 9, so 8 is smack in the middle.

It's not a new idea, has no incredibly tense or sophisticated plot and actually it's not clear where we go from here so, just enjoy it but, 9.1? Seriously???

What an unbelievable pile of ****!
4 January 2023
This movie is an insult to cinematography and even the most average intelligence...

American Pie, Clueless and even Dumb and Dumber are masterpieces compared to this pretentious, pseudo-creative, absolutely nothing to show for pile of crap.

It's unbelievable that someone agreed to spill $80M on this thing and even more amazing is how they made those actors take part in it.

Maybe this is the true conspiracy worth investigating here... it's a lot of money to waste...

And lastly, It is so nauseating and hypocritical to be taught by Hollywood billionaires that "Rich is bad! Poor is good!" but for it to be done in such a blunt way... seriously???

Logic and common sense sacrificed for agenda pushing
23 September 2022
The movie claims several times that two thirds of the crack users were white but also that it is somehow the plot of the white man to destroy black communities...

It is mentioned more than once how the corrupt cops didn't care about anything and were dealing themselves - and that's bad. Citizens shown begging for police protection and when it comes, somehow too many people are put in jail and guess what - it is also bad.

Nobody, allegedly, cares about this problem in the inner cities - and that's bad.

But when news outlets start showing interest they "over exaggerate" and "create panic" and, guess what - this is bad too...

This lack of logic is so tiring.

Enough!

Can you be more artificial and boring?
13 August 2022
I think they should start classifying movies not only with what is the minimum recommended age but also what's the maximum... I'd classify this one as max 20 y.o.

What a megaboring, artificial, and disappointing display.

An insult to intelligence
16 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What an embarrassment... I don't even know where to start.

1. The poster boy who dies in the first episode 2. The macho-hero who wears suit even when digging bodies in the nearby woods 3. The overbearing treacher-preacher-propagandist that seems to hate her job and her students.

4. An absolutely meaningless line with Russian mafia (never heard of a Russian named Milo by the way... maybe a Russian dog).

5. The doom's-day-weapon-prostitute who fails to achieve nothing despite her training in NYC... why is she there aside of exposing herself in any possible way and attract the horny and the pervert audience?

6. The loner guard with the handicapped child and a miserable wife who is given a whole 3 minutes in the story... why even mention him? What for?

7. The... ok, that's enough. I'm getting frustrated just trying to remember all the ways they insulted my intelligence.

The most frustrating part is that I see 8s and 9s and 10s...

Disregard the bad reviews, they didn't understand what they're watching...
16 September 2021
I'm not gay, at least not according to the online quiz I took (just kidding), not a girl and I generally can't stand teenage love stories. Knowing the episode got low reviews and two minutes into it I though of skipping to the next one but decided give it a chance and Very glad I did.

The episode makes you feel the confusion and frustration of a teenage girl falling in love for the first time so close and so clear, I was glued to the screen.

The way she's afraid to find out she's gay and resists it so much just to find out at the end it's absolutely fine and nothing to be ashamed or afraid of is just the perfect message - clever and elegant!

Well done!

Minari (2020)

A Golden Globe? For that?!? Oh, right, it's 2020...
15 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to like this movie. Until the very end. Maybe it's because I'm an immigrant myself, maybe because I appreciate the East Asian culture and its work integrity idealization, but wow, what a disappointment.

Of course every immigrant, especially from Korea, will find similarities to their own story but this is exactly because the movie is so faceless and flat. Anything can fit. It absolutely lacks any plot and can be told in 5 min.

You see no financial struggle or hardship - the father gets the loan he needs, buys the equipment he needs and the only reason they have no water is because he was stingy and couldn't spend $250 for someone to dig a well for him (he had no issue paying $2000 for a tractor though...). The kids and the wife wear nice clothes and they own a car. They eat well and can afford visiting a doctor. In fact, the family of the boy who the kid gets befriended with seems, judging by the father figure, to struggle much more.

You see no struggle to assimilate. One visit to the church that has no content and no continuation.absolutely no contact to any other folk of Arkansas besides the lunatic/exorcist friend who fought in Korea but it even this angle is not being developed... What is it? Laziness? Time constraints? Budget?

And why the kid has to be sick, how does it contribute to the plot? Is it a personal tribute to a personal story we don't understand?

The little girl if completely forgotten. She doesn't even deserve a friend to spend some time with while the parents are away at the hospital and the boy is at his friend's... where did she go???

I have no energy to talk about the struggle of the couple. It's simply embarrassing.

And then the main question I have. What is this Minari??? Is it a herb they're going to sell after the other produce got burned? Is it something they're going to eat in order to survive? Why the movie called Minari?

Again. Wanted to enjoy the movie but had the awkward feeling of being ashamed for something I haven't done. I was embarrassed for those actors and the audiences that'll praise the movie since, hey, after all, it won the Golden Globe... Curtain!

A beautiful story about painfully real people
3 March 2021
It's a sad world we live in. A world where such a sad and beautiful story, full of acting genius and human feeling gets a 6.1 by an ever-action-craving audience... If you love the art of cinema, please watch this one.

19 April 2020
Who do they make this movies for??? It's an insult to a normal person's intelligence. I felt so embarrassed to watch it... thankfully my wife asked to stop!
