Justice League: War (2014)
Different
This animated movie is different from the majority of previous. The heroes do not play around as nice as they usually do. There is plenty of animated violence, blood, bruises, broken bones, sliced limbs and more. The PG-13 rating is there for a reason.
The relationship between the heroes is forced and easily changed by the creators, the heroes fight when it fits the script and than co-operate, when again, it fits the script. For those purposes their behavior has also been changed. Generally the movie describes, more realistic super heroes than the comic books. The heroes in this movie, have ego issues, lower moral standards, shorter fuse for violence and really poor taste of humor.
Besides that the animation is different, I think that was done to set the tone and show that these are different super heroes, not the ones we know. Less square jaws (in that matter less square anything), more details, some 3D computer rendering has been added, generally the animation is rather detailed and smooth, really easy on the eyes.
I will not talk about the voices, some guidelines do apply and in my opinion they did fine, there is no reason to obsess about it.
After taking some points off for the forced behavior and forced story line it is 8/10.
Django Unchained (2012)
Good movie but not a masterpiece
Today is the 6th of Jan. 2013. The current average IMDb score for this movie is 8.8 and it is over rated.
Foxx's performance was wonderful and he is the one who pulls the movie up and makes it work. The blood, explosions and violence in the movie are exaggerated in a cartoony way which makes it watching easier.
The main problem with this movie is that it has spoilers inbuilt in it throughout the whole movie. Therefore throughout the whole movie I could see a step ahead, and this is why -
1. I will start with Waltz's performance, it is magnificent but the character is not original. It is watching Col. Landa all over again. He is charismatic, funny and surprises you. However since it is exactly how he behaved in previous movies none of the surprises that come from him does not actually surprise you because you expect these surprises. 2. Samuel L. Jackson makes an interesting appearance, but again he always plays a bad S.O.B. and this movie is not exception. Which makes it predictable. 3. Tarantino makes an appearance and when you see Tarantino in a Tarantino movie you just know how long it will last and how it will end.
There is a short comic relief scene with Jonah Hill, which takes the movie to a totally different direction and makes it sound like a cheesy comedy. This totally ripped me apart from the movie.
Technical things that just did not work - The movie uses green screen for some scenes mostly to add/modify nature but they were not properly done, thus ruining the movie experience. The "old person" make up that was used for Samuel. L . Jackson in some shoots was not properly done which resulted in his face shining like a disco ball.
All in all this is a great a movie but it is not the best of Tarantino. A strong 7.5 (since IMDb system does not support fractions I gave it 8).
Iron Sky (2012)
Bad all over the place
This is my first review, the movie shocked me so much that I was compelled to write these lines. I'll start by saying that I could not force myself to see it until the end. It is just that bad. The movie has cheap action and poor attempts at comedy. It is one of those movies where all the characters have really low IQ, they are just plain dumb. Each time that you think that something should happen something else happens, something dumb that should to be funny but it is just too dumb to be so. If you do not care much for thinking while watching a movie then you might like it, otherwise stay away. Currently the movie is rated at 7.4 out of 10, I had to put 1 to try and balance it somehow.
