Terrible dubbing
23 December 2018
Movie was not that bad, but the mexican version was dubbed by an idiot mexican comedian who cannot keep his characters out of his dubbing. Eugenio Derbez should never dub another movie ever again.

Yet another attempt at evangelical propaganda
5 July 2017
This title was recommended to me by Netflix so I gave it a shot.

The "documentary" presents itself as a serious attempt to study the Exodus in an historical way; but suddenly you realize what is happening.

The serious testimonies from archaeologists and historians that deny the historicity of the biblical narration presented first are contrasted against nut jobs who "can prove" that the exodus really happened.

Historic revisionism trying to justify myths.

Another piece of evangelical propaganda, don't waste your time watching it.

Certainly NOT worth wasting your time on it.
20 November 2012
With a meta-critic rating of 35 and a user score of 72 you can assure that there is something fishy going on with the ratings of this movie.

This movie, if it can even be called one, is actually a two hour plus piece of propaganda from the religious right (yes, we have one in Mexico) to try to justify the actions of a group of people who started refusing state provided secular education and was handled very poorly by the government.

Of course the movie never mentions the numbers of teachers that were assassinated by the cristeros, which started the reaction by Calles' government.

Not worth wasting your time on it.

Right Wing Propaganda.
22 January 2011
I have to confess something. I watched this movie knowing that it's main goal is to work as right wing propaganda.

Special effects are OK, but they are nothing spectacular. What really misses the mark is the one-dimension of the story and characters and the obvious intent to chip away at the separation of church and state is too annoying to ignore.

The slant given on a Secular State that runs the bad guys and the clear reference to the "Cristero Wars" Miguel Agustín Pro make it clear this movie is intended as propaganda for right wing politicians who wish to see the separation from church and state removed from Mexican Laws.

Even the name of the movie, 2033, is a reference to the 33 degrees of francmasonry, which catholics in Mexico have pictured as devil worshippers.

Star Trek (2009)

Terrible, I love JJ Abrams, but here he just didn't respect the original franchise
20 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie to be a complete misconstruction of what Star Trek is supposed to be.

The moment child Kirk appears driving a Corvette and doing a bunch of unreasonable and unjustified stuff just to show off special effects I knew I was in for a big disappointment.

Chris Pine is a huge miscast. Or at least he was terribly misdirected. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Somewhere along the movie they DO try to justify why the "new" Kirk is so different from the original, but it still doesn't make any sense.

***SPOILER ALERT*** Casting Leonard Nimoy seemed one of the good parts of the movie, but abusing the duplicity on the final scene was absolutely unnecessary.

The whole movie is done without any regard to science fiction or the original Star Trek series. For instance, some scenes were shot on ceramic tiled corridors that look like they belong on a cold war movie, not a science fiction classic.

Characters seem dumb and one dimensioned, I love J.J.Abrams work on Cloverfield and Lost, but he clearly had a bad one with this film.

I came out of the movie theater feeling shortchanged and greatly disappointed.

As bad as a movie can be made
1 November 2007
I'm a big fan of several of the big name actors (Mexican) that lent their voices for characters in this movie and went into the theater with high expectations.

I couldn't believe how bad this movie was. Voices were OK, but the movie is definitively geared toward kids not a day over 4 years, and then it may prove scary for them. Jokes were dumb and animation seemed cheap to the point of not being funny anymore.

People who remember that old TV show "Cantinflas Show" may remember that type of animation as interesting when it was done... 25 years ago, not today.

Definitively not funny, not entertaining and not even worth the 30 minutes I spent before leaving the theater.

Sorry, didn't like it...
4 April 2004
Was it just me, or did other people also get tired of watching this movie?

Dunno, I liked Renée Zellweger's acting very much; and I like the way Jude Law acts, but I kinda got tired of following all the subplots that this movie had. I guess I can't particularly say what part of this movie I didn't like, but it just didn't get me enough into the story to really feel for the characters.

In a way it reminded me of that dutch film, Antonia's Line (not exactly like it, but similar feeling... I guess the remainder of the cast having dinner in a garden brought that movie back), however the later seemed like a much better movie to me.

Also, the visual stress that the movie shows (sawing of the bull, killing of the goat and neck twisting of the rooster) seemed to substract instead of add to the movie like it should have.

(If I keep going on people are gonna get tired of my message...)

Point is, I can't say that the story was bad, it just managed to loose me and things got reaaaaally boring after that.

Three LOTR in the top 10?
4 April 2004
What are these movies doing in the top 10? I'd give them all 1's if that weren't obvious cheating... but even if you give them a reasonable 7 or 8 it's going to be a while before they land where they should.

Specially Return of the King, which IMO is the weakest of the three, at times it seemed obvious that it wanted to "dethrone" star wars by imitating it!

Oh well... I guess too many young kids have access to computers and not enough time to watch some of the great movies that came before LOTR.

You either get it or you don't
29 December 2003
This is probably one of my favorite 5 movies of all time. It's not a Hollywood linear movie, though it may seem like one to some people.

I just saw Kill Bill (loved it, of course), and if you say that one girl killing 88 japanese fighters doesn't make sense then you can't understand why Mayol flees with the dolphin at the end of the movie.

Can't say much 'cause all the people writing reviews have summed it up pretty well.
