Amazing cast, weak premise
23 August 2023
The strongest aspect of this show is the cast of women who are competing. They have a variety of physical jobs and are cool. The mechanics of the show are not good. The first base battle is entertaining but each one is less interesting to watch than the last. One team is stuck in the corner the entire show. One team gets eliminated so early on theyre hardly in it. Some of the bases are so protected that attacking teams can't even figure out how to open the door. The capture the flag aspect of the show has to be rebalanced or given less importance. My recommendation is watch the first two base battles then feel free to stop any time.

This made me feel embarrassed
1 July 2023
The United States had a long tradition of sending college players for Olympic basketball. Basically we had this wonderful opportunity for young men to travel abroad meet new friends and have a once in a lifetime experience. After winning countless gold medals The United States stumbled and got silver.

As usual, Americans began to bully their own players. And the solution was to turn the Olympics into a commercial for the NBA. They scraped together the few pro players that would even agree to go and sent them over with little practice. The documentary tries to convince us that this was inspirational and not a temper tantrum.

The only saving grace of this documentary is the charisma of players like James, Wade and of course Bryant.

We're all confused
28 June 2023
Promotional material for the show made it seem sabotaging and raiding other teams was a core aspect of the game. Many contestants don't want to play like that and some don't seem to recognize the raiding as an encouraged part of the game. By the time episodes 5 and 6 roll around there are so few contestants and no content left to show the audience. That being said there is Beautiful footage of Alaska and a Snowfall in the last episode. Very underrated part of America. Also present is nice synth music in transition between scenes. What I really want is just footage of Alaska and the music ok top.

Never Have I Ever (2020–2023)

She graduated

April 27, 2020. Visionary TV show Never Have I Ever hit the scene. Now, late night in the middle of June 2023, the 4th season premiered on Netflix. The audience has seen Devi's entire journey through Sherman Oaks high school. How was it then, the victory lap, the season depicting Devi's senior year of high school. As a big fan of this show, I can tell you it was bumpy. First the good things, its so nice to see the Vishwakumar home and the 4 actresses are great. On the negative side, the season rushes because there is so much happening.

To think that the audience has come this far and prom isn't shown. To see Devi's final high school essay reduced to a brief 3 minutes and not the introspective force it could have been. Maybe its because Paxton and Trent are back eating up a lot of screen time, they really should have stayed gone. Aneesa, who was a phenomenal latecomer to the show has nothing to do anymore. And then to end it, they're riding away from all Devi's friends and family (on their last night together before college!!) just so that they can go to buddy's room and get it on. The whole ride I was wondering where could they possibly be going that's more important than where they already were??

I want to live in a world where we are not judged on our low points. The first two seasons of this show are so, so good. It is a landmark work by Kaling, Ramakrishnan to have put such quality television on a popular streaming platform. If you're burned out on this show, skip season 4 and heck even 3 if you're that behind. But I'm giving this show a score based on the sheer power of the first ten episodes. 8/10, a major accomplishment.

A Rare Perspective
15 May 2020
I thought it was good. Michelle Obama sacrificed so much when she was catapulted into the First Lady. This film is important because even in 2020 its extremely rare to see the perspective of black women.

Silly film with disturbing violence scenes
21 August 2019
I enjoyed this movie for the most part. There are silly jokes and catchy songs. Unfortunately the ending of the movie is excessively violent and uncomfortable. It goes way beyond plot necessity and I ended up fast forwarding through it.
