The Highland Vet (2020– )
8/10
The Highland Vet is my vet.
10 October 2021
Our four greyhounds are patients at the Highland Vets' surgery. Is lovely to see the other work of this excellent veterinary practice in Caithness, especially their work with the farm livestock.

Highly recommended.

Not great.

Too many glaring errors: the birth control pill wasn't in use in the UK till 1961. The Animals' hit 'We Gotta Get out of this Place wasn't out till 1965. And if any man turned up with shaven chest and armpits, he'd have been branded a poof and beasted into the middle of next week. Easy stuff to research so no excuses. The lack of violence was striking. Getting punched round the head for getting things wrong was still happening when my son joined up in 1992.

Cringingly bad.
8 April 2021
Watching this is like sucking a lemon. The plot is totally implausible. The acting is melodramatic. The male lead's cringing cowardice makes me want to shake him by the shoulders, and if his wife says "it's going to be OK" once more, I won't answer for the damage to my tv.

Why am I still watching it? Hope springs eternal...

Too melodramatic and far fetched.

OTT acting, incredibly far fetched storylines, the eponymous irresponsible solicitor should have been disbarred years ago.

Cymraeg noir? No, thank you.

I can't believe this is on BBC Four!

Charley Boorman completely spoils this potentially interesting travelogue. Charley's lack of intellect is matched only by his severely limited vocabulary. His favourites descriptors are "nice" and "fun". Quote (on climbing on the back of an elephant) "Once you're up here - you're up here, really." And, pricelessly "We're at 1460 metres. That's why it's Katmandhu". It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. Clearly, nepotism got him where he is.

Just doesn't hang together.

Heartfelt performances, great cinematography and lighting, but let down by a story that just doesn't gel.

Is this supposed to be a comedy?

If so, it's failed as badly as it failed as a drama. Lamentable acting, weak storyline and unrealistic sets. No stars in my view. I've given it one for luck. It'll need luck.

Excellent action movie - spoiled.

This is an excellent, beautifully shot movie totally spoiled for me by the obtrusive soundtrack that at times masked the dialogue. Watched on Netflix.

Beautifully shot in India.

What a shame this drama set in 18th century India is let down by a stilted script and wooden acting. The only reason I've watched every episode is the excellent cinematography and wonderful glimpses of the real India.

Bitter sweet drama.

Great drama with an unusual storyline that had me jumping to conclusions early on. It all sorts itself out, working it's way to the poignant ending. Well worth watching.

Spoiled.
15 July 2018
This could have been a good drama - but it was spoiled by the truly dreadful and intrusive incidental music and the over indulgent wallowing in the mores and manners of the 1950s BBC.
