New Zealand's best splatter movie
5 February 2004
In my opinion, this film is a landmark in terms of the New Zealand horror genre. It is my favourite splatter movie of all time! It has it all: zombies, bloodshed, fun with lawnmowers and a quirky story. New Zealand horror movies have always tended to take themselves too seriously, whereas I think this film finds the right balance of humour, silliness and cringe-worthy moments.

If you like any of the Evil Dead movies, then you're sure to love this film.

Woo, Woo! (1945)

Really grating comedy
20 November 2003
This film would be good, if it wasn't for the constant repetition of every sentence! The idea is quite funny, however the actors skills (or lack of) let it down. The "woo woo" noise made popular by Hugh Herbert loses its humour after the second or third time. By the tenth time it just gets annoying.

Charmingly animated

This animated film has some beautiful drawings that are ahead of its time. Though some parts might be considered un-politically correct by todays standards (it features golliwogs and the Sambo Jazz band), the drawings and music are beautifully done.

Fairly ordinary
9 November 2003
Summary: (Society Melodrama) Country girl Mabel Vandegrift enrolls in a fashionable city college and there she joins a fast-moving crowd. During a houseparty Reggy Adams tries to force his attentions on her, but she escapes. Later, when he is found dead, she is accused of murdering him. Her country sweetheart, Peter Farnham, solves the mystery, and all ends happily.

Note: Originally released in May 1923 as What's Your Daughter Doing.

I've only seen this film frame by frame (and incomplete), but it seems to be pretty good for its time. There are some beautiful shots.
