Glitch (2015)
It's a trap
Season 1 was so unequal. Scenario badly structured and each episode looks to have been written at the last minute. I'm even surprised to see critics saying it was good. But I'm also grateful to commenters for let me know avoid Season 3.
All the sub plots are like rage baits. Kate not understanding his widowed husband remarried and remade his life after losing her, just pissed me off. One time ok, but for half season, this is too much. I stopped to watch multiple times so much I was irritated by her tantrum.
Other things like the doctor falling for John who almost killed her a short time before. And it even not about a fine Stockholm syndrome, it's just another 90° plot diversion without basis that doesn't add anything to the plot.
Or the fresh newborn baby got one month older between two scenes of the same sequences in the clinic. These are just a few of many, many examples.
I want to point out that actors seem good, but it shows they were badly directed.
This show had the potential to be a great show but the screenplay, direction and production was probably lacking budget and creativity.
I'll stop before Season 2.
Monk: Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine (2004)
Worst episode ever
What happened with the producers concern for OCD depiction realism? I started Monk series about a month ago and even if I can't barely stand the childish behavior of the Adrian Monk who have all OCD's traits, never saw this but it's maybe possible. However, in this episode, the 180° change of behavior under the medication is an insult to intelligence, to psychiatry and mostly and before all, to anyone afflicted with this serious condition. I can't say how much I hate how they let this episode go on air. I'm not a great fan of how they tried to make OCD a tool for comedy under the cover of exposing this profound mental condition. Around the poor tentatives of realism of this depiction, all the other elements of the show are totally not credible, they lack of logic and common sense. This episode is the paroxysm of inducing disinformation of what it is for someone with mental illness to his take medications. That is irresponsible.
Extrapolations: 2068: The Going-Away Party (2023)
Less SciFi FX but Awesome scenario and play!
Don't be distracted by bad reviews. This was an excellent episode, one that stands out. Surely it have a strange "flavor" in the series' topic or esthetic, but it have the brilliance of great shows; it quite reminded me of those masterpieces like Sartre's Huis-Clos or Edward Albee's Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf.
Also, the behaviors of the protagonists are not too close to ours in our era. So it gives more to the feeling they're in a different time in the future, but not too far.
Yes, it is not an episode for SciFi pops and sparkles effects aficionados, though it is not a global style in the series, but it have a solid scenario and awesome actors play!
Lucifer: It Never Ends Well for the Chicken (2020)
A beautiful relecture of the show
For me it's one of the best episode. After five seasons, they know very well their recipe, but in this episode they had to look after everything: the script, the visuals, the music, the (awesome) lightings, the perfectly balanced film noir feeling... they had to revisit each aspect of the show which, for me, was a great tour-de-force for the production team.
This episode is maybe hated by some viewers but it have a highly creative attention; we are far from a *filler* episode. It also reveal the backstory of the ring, showing its importance for later. It also unveiling Maze origin, which is crucial. Love it.
True Detective (2014)
A must see!
I really appreciated this series. The non-linear scenarios are great. Playing is excellent as is for the direction. Music is perfectly dosed and beautifully orchestrated. I must say S3 is my fav after S1. I had difficulties with S2 (hence the 9/10) which seems to had problems to seize the mechanics of the series, spreading more confusion than assembling the mixed puzzle of its story. Anyway, I highly recommend the whole series!
Enterprise (2001)
Very good. Surprising!!
Really good series. I'm very surprise because I read a lot of bad reviews - maybe by some Trekies purists? Anyway, more I'm going through the seasons, more I appreciate the work of this production team.
