Nature: Treasure of the Caribbean (2023)
A hidden gem of a program about a hidden gem of an ecosystem!
This is hands down one of the best underwater nature documentaries I've ever seen! The producers of Nature and PBS have matched anything BBC has done on a tenth of the budget. The photographers have done an amazing job capturing the beauty of this underwater kingdom.
It was a huge bummer to hear about the threats facing this ecosystem, so hopefully this documentary will raise more awareness and support for further protecting the reef.
It would also be nice to see less of the white saviors and more about the native population that is working to save the reef. Getting rid of those interviews would've made this a 10/10. But unfortunately I think the U. S. audience would be less likely to watch if native people were the stars, instead of the white saviors.
But all in all, a wonderful documentary. Please keep making this amazing programs PBS and Nature!
Nature: The Hummingbird Effect (2023)
A big program about little birds!
The producers of Nature have done it again, with another excellent episode this season.
I have always been fascinated by hummingbirds, even though the only species I have in my area is the ruby-throated hummingbird. As amazing as the ones in my backyard are, the variety of different species in Costa Rica is amazing and their beautiful evolutions to match with specific plant species is fascinating.
These little birds are amazing in both their complexity as well as their strength and long migrations across harsh environments. I hope we as a species do everything we can to conserve them, so thank you Nature for highlighting these fascinating but imperiled birds.
Nature: Niagara Falls (2023)
Excellent episode!
Not too often that you see a nature documentary dedicated to North American flora and fauna, so this episode was a real treat! While I could have done without the interviews with the people, the rest of the documentary was spot-on! The underwater cave shots were so beautiful and has made me look into booking a vacation up there! I had no idea about the greater Niagara ecosystem, it was fascinating to learn about. The cliff ecosystem was also suprising, as I had not heard about them previously. All in all, this was a terrific episode that continues the wonderful string of episodes for Nature this season. Just wish more people watched them, these are just as good as the BBC documentaries!
