Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Worth watching, but just once
Cinematography was stunning - a feast for the eyes visually. I was immediately captured in the beginning, but I'll admit that this film got weirder and weirder to the point that I almost stopped watching it. Without spoiling anything, let me just say I'm glad I stuck with the film until the end. Despite the over the top ridiculousness of some of the scenes, this film successfully told a contemplative story that'll surprisingly tug at your heartstrings and keep you talking about this movie long after you've left the cinema. The cast was great. I'm glad I stuck with it, but I also don't see myself watching this again. The movie seemed longer than it actually is.
When Calls the Heart: Straight From the Heart (2022)
BEST EPISODE OF THE SEASON... SO FAR
Fantastic episode! Best of season 9 so far, although I have a feeling I'll be saying this with every new episode that comes. The show keeps topping itself. This one was so very sweet. It was great to see Lucas and Little Jack bond. Seeing Lucas step into that father figure role is so endearing and Hyland plays LJ wonderfully. Can't wait to see what other shenanigans these two buddies get up to later on in the season.
Grrrrr!! That Landis really gets on my nerves! Poor Cooper has been keeping this huge weight on his shoulders and I teared up when he hugged and apologized to Elizabeth. The Canfields' storyline this season is emotionally heavy, but the writers and actors have been navigating through it so well. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Nathan finally asked Mei out! I'm happy with the way he's been coming out of his shell and becoming more comfortable with everyone in town this season. It'll be fun to watch how Allie reacts to him and Mei.
Lee is a little frustrated that Mike doesn't seem to have a plan as mayor, but Rosemary without too many words, is his rock and helps him realize he should give Mike another chance. The Coulters provide so much comedy on the show, but their partnership is also so sweet and perfectly balanced. Couple goals for sure.
Isn't it so sweet that Elizabeth's book helps Henry believe in himself more? That he's more deserving than the way he diminishes himself sometimes? And he tells Lucas that he's decided to stay on with the oil company. I love Henry.
Hickam has been leaving Bill speechless for a couple of episodes now. It's hilarious. Go Mike! We missed Fiona in this one though. Hope she comes back in episode 5.
#FloYo are just masters of comedy. Loved the look Ned had on his face after witnessing Nathan ask Mei to dinner. And Florence's "Very well then!" Lol. So funny!
Molly and Faith's girl talk outside the infirmary was a very sweet moment. Single girls enjoying and living life and being happy. It was a nice touch to end the episode with Carson calling though.
I could go on and on with what I loved about this episode, but my absolute favorite moments were with Lucas and Elizabeth. I have rewatched and rewatched their exchange after she finds Lucas reading to LJ, E's whisper of "I love you" and her gently waking him, plus the bonus porch kiss! Oh my heart. So romantic! Those two have real chemistry. It's fantastic. But then that shocking attack after Lucas leaves Elizabeth's home??? Poor Lucas. I like seeing him go protective mode when he confronts Wyman and Spurlock though. Those two are up to no good.
All in all, this episode was a wonderful rollercoaster of emotions. It was perfect.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Predictable and disappointing
The first half of the movie dragged on quite a bit. I was disappointed that the murder mystery was too predictable. I haven't read or seen any of its earlier adaptations, but this movie just fell flat to me. To be honest, it put my whole family to sleep and I forced myself to stay awake hoping that it would be worthwhile. Sadly, it was not.
When Calls the Heart: Out Like a Lamb (2022)
Things are changing for the better
After that wonderful welcome back to Hope Valley in episode 1, the second episode starts with the aftermath of the hit-and-run and Nathan's injury. Of course, the townspeople rally together to do what they can to help one of their own. Mei Sou proves to be a huge help especially with Newton. Lucas & Elizabeth are going strong and discuss appreciating the little moments and gestures in their relationship. It seems to me, Lucas has his priorities straight. We finally get the results of the election and it is unexpected, but makes for great comedy and a bigger role for the new mayor. Both Fiona and Henry step up and admit their faults with regards to the Jerome Smith issue. The Canfields struggle with Cooper's doubts and revelation. My heart hurt for Lee. He really wanted to be mayor, but Rosemary keeps proving time and again how wonderful they are as a team as she supports him. This episode was good mix of everything. I'm liking this new fun side of Nathan and the new dynamic he has with Lucas & Elizabeth. Mei Sou is even more mysterious now that she's asking for Bill's legal advice. There were lots of cute Lucas and Elizabeth moments too! Solid episode. Great writing.
When Calls the Heart: Turn of the Page (2022)
THE BEST episode in the season!!!... so far
I kid you not, this was a gem of an episode. It had drama, intrigue, comedy, romance, and so much heart. I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it, but I was on a wonderful rollercoaster of emotions. I laughed and I cried and I gasped and audibly "Awww"-ed at the TV. Fantastic writing sprinkled with wonderful messages and brilliant performances. This is an episode that I'll be rewatching over and over again.

Off to a great start! Fantastic season premiere!
Fantastic season premiere! They totally delivered with the romance, drama, intrigue, comedy, and hope that they promised. Hope Valley is buzzing with new life, new characters, new businesses, all while keeping the heart of the show - community. It's an ensemble show and despite the short length of each episode, this episode was packed in a way that highlighted our favorite characters and gave them all chances to shine. Transitions were smooth and the storytelling was so easy to follow. I missed these characters so much during the off-season and it's so great to see them back on my screen! Off to a great start! I can't wait to watch the rest of the season!

An Epic Finale Worth the Wait: An Actual Review and Not Petty Whining
This was an epic season finale that delivered what was promised. Elizabeth realized who was truly in her heart and put an end to the "triangle" that was never really a triangle between Nathan and Lucas; but between Jack and Lucas. This was a culmination of 3 years watching Elizabeth slowly move on from the tragic death of her husband to a wonderful new beginning. Throughout the years we've seen her grow stronger as an individual, maturing as a single mother and teacher. This season we saw her take the reins with her second chance at true love.
In the beginning of the episode, we see Elizabeth apologize to her best friend, Rosemary, as she admits that she behaved poorly and always knows that Rosemary has her best interest at heart. The conversation between the two friends calls for reflection. What Rosemary describes as a season, a reason, and a lifetime represents Elizabeth's relationship with Jack, Nathan, and Lucas, respectively.
Halfway through the finale, Elizabeth wastes no time in telling Nathan what she has come to realize - that she was trying to see Jack in him; and that although she loves him, she's not in love with him. We, as viewers, see clues throughout the season that allude to this fact, but it took Elizabeth a long time to recognize the transference of her feelings for her late husband to Nathan. It wasn't clean and simple, but raw and more realistic.
Nathan comes to the saloon at the end of the night to speak to Lucas about what had transpired at the jail and he tells Lucas, "I think that her heart has always been with you." He acknowledges what Lucas and Elizabeth share, and in this scene he even tries to advise Lucas to stay in Hope Valley and tells him that he has his back. This was, in my opinion, a way to show Nathan's acceptance of Elizabeth's choice, the closure of this chapter of his life, and his first act to start anew. Despite being romantic rivals in the past, Nathan's gesture is the beginning of a possible friendship between the two men.
I loved the scene in which Elizabeth finally removes her wedding ring. From the way it was shot and directed, to the accompanying music, and of course the masterful performance by Erin Krakow - it was a poignant and powerfully cathartic scene that not only signified Elizabeth's moving on, but also allowed viewers to say goodbye to Jack one last time.
One of my favorite scenes is when Lucas is trying to convince Henry to stay. He asks Lucas, what matters most? - not properties or possessions. Henry, who in the past, put money and power over all else, was now steadfast in his realization of what really mattered when all was said and done. He kept a photo of his son in his jacket pocket and looked to the sign at Abigail's cafe as he left. Henry's character has evolved so much from the villain in Season 1 to an important figure and voice of reason in Hope Valley. I have no doubt that Hearties now adore Henry and hope that he finds love and happiness. That's a testament to the amazing writers and the incredible acting of Martin Cummins.
The scene where Angela comes to school accompanied by her family, all of the students, and their parents was incredibly powerful. It was moving, hopeful, and filled with the spirit of community - the very definition of Hope Valley.
The last 6 minutes of the finale were worth the hype and worth the wait. They were fantastically written, acted, and presented on screen. The build of angst and longing was released in Lucas and Elizabeth's passionate reunion at the bridge. There was no doubt that these two were in love. "You are all that matters. You're all that's important to me." The dialogue was purposeful, meaningful, and definite. Lucas realizes that Elizabeth has taken off her rings and she tells him "Thank you for waiting for me." Their theme of patience and his promise to wait for his soulmate came full circle. The way this love story was incredibly well-written amazes me to no end. Chris McNally and Erin Krakow delivered wonderful performances. These two are so good at acting with their eyes, so I really appreciated the close-ups. Their chemistry was through the roof and the kisses were amazing.
The bridge scene was already more than I could've ever asked for, but they made it even more amazing by adding the library scene. The geniuses that are the WCTH writers, had Elizabeth re-create their library date for Lucas. She'd set up candles and champagne at the library (like Lucas had in S7), and it was a reading, much like their Union City date. We got to see Elizabeth beaming. She was so happy. The way she then tells him that she's fallen for him, and then he tells her that he's fallen for her - It was perfect. If I could give a rating higher than 10/10, I would. As a Heartie who's been rooting for these two since their very first meeting outside the saloon, this finale was better than anything I could've ever imagined.
Apart from the love triangle, several other storylines also hit satisfying milestones in the finale: Lee and Rosemary's search for purpose, the Canfield's taking a stand with the support of Elizabeth and the town for Angela to attend school, Henry realizing what was important to him and helping Lucas do the same, Carson and Faith finally making the choice to separate in order to fulfill their own individual dreams.
As this is a television series, of course some storylines were left open-ended to tease the next season: Wyman Walden and the Pinkertons, Mr. Landis and expansion of the school, Nathan and Faith's journey of healing, Fiona and Hickam's new venture, the mayoral race, Ned's new discovery, Molly and Bill's flirtation, to name a few. Will Carson and Henry return? Clara and Jessie? Now that Lucas and Elizabeth have declared their love for each other, should we expect an engagement next season? There are several things to look forward to in Season 9.
