Hunter x Hunter: A × Surprising × Win (2012)
Season 1, Episode 32
10/10
A showcase for Hisoka
13 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Really great dialogue that helped us learn more about Hisoka, his infamous Bungee Gum, and his motives for fighting. The last two thirds of the episode were mostly dialogue but it may have been even more intriguing than the fight that took place in the first third of the episode. The writing was that good.

After hearing Machi and Hisoka talk about his fight, you realize even more how outclassed Gon and Killua are in using Nen at this stage of their journey. Despite both of the boys being prodigiously talented, raw talent won't cut it in the major league of Nen users. This made me excited for what was to come later in the series.

Hunter x Hunter: Defeat × and × Disgrace (2012)
Season 1, Episode 16

Top 10 episode of this series

This is an episode that really develops Gon's character. He shows the essence of what being a Hunter is all about. Gon's resolve to tackle challenges that are seemingly too difficult to him becomes a common theme in the series and this is one of the brightest moments. I see this episode as an encapsulation of the entire series itself. Gon, on his journey to hunt an ever-elusive and powerful target, his father. In this episode, Gon is on a mission to hunt an ever-elusive and powerful target, Hisoka.

If someone said to pick a quintessential episode, maybe not the best, but quintessential episode of this series, it would be hard to not argue for this episode. It's that good.

And also, if the manga ever completes, let's be honest with this question: what is the one-on-one fight for all the marbles that should happen for closure and completion of character arcs? Watch this episode to get the hints.

Was a 9/10 until midway when the wheels fell off...

I thought the premise was interesting and the on-screen chemistry between the lead actors carried the movie as with the previous two Conjuring films. But the plot became really confusing and I didn't think it was explained very well. The ending wasn't that fulfilling.

I really was anticipating this movie during the entire pandemic and I still enjoyed the movie as entertainment. The cinematography was really nice, especially in the third act. But ultimately, the scares were far and few in between and weren't that shocking. I think the audience pretty much knew when each scare was about to come.

Nevertheless, I still enjoy the Conjuring universe overall and I think it is a enjoyable addition. It is always great to see the fine performances from Wilson and Farmiga, but I left this movie feeling a bit cold and not desiring to revisit it again. I hope others enjoyed it more than I did! Have a great day!

Saw the sequel without seeing the first....

I didn't see the first one but I wanted to just go to the movies at night for entertainment and thought I would be fine without seeing it.

I was indeed entertained. I know I probably missed some of the Easter eggs from the first but it definitely wasn't like walking into Avengers Infinity War without watching the first 22 MCU movies.

I thought the acting was spot on, the editing was well executed, the action was tense, the three acts were well constructed, and the movie was minimalistic in that it didn't try to do too much (which professional movie critics really like).

I may have to check the first one out now. I recommend this movie.

Underrated episode with great writing

The dialogue of this episode was amazing and a great character moment for Leorio. You can see he'd be willing to take a bullet for Gon.

Great character building episode

I think some of the best moments in this show are when Killua learns to not underestimate himself and realize his importance to Gon. This episode was an example of that. His character development has surpassed that of all others in this show.

One of the best episodes, if not the best, so far

Decisions. Decisions. Killua is faced with a tough decision that has consequences. He was the MVP of this episode. As much as I love Gon, I think this episode clearly showed why Killua is essential to Gon. Gon means well but his idealism gets the best of him while Killua's pragmatism is vital. I think the game the two boys played with Netero on the airship really foreshadowed this episode. Killua realized they couldn't get the ball and went to bed while Gon kept going for it...this show is great!
