Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Cabin in the woods and home intruders one movie
The film basically follows the idea of Cabin the woods: Earth will be annihilated by a higher power if you don't sacrifice somebody for the good of humanity.
Otherwise it's more of a slow paced intruder movie with a rainbow family being attacked in their cabin.
The plot twist is that the intruders are brutally killed by the living ones when they fail the gay dads to sacrifice one of them voluntarily.
Inbetween the rainbow family is exposed to news reporting of different catastrophies caused by not wanting to get kilked: tsunamies, oandemic and airplanes falling from the sky. For some reason these images aren't do convincing abd similar to our everyday's news.
The skull smashing action of the movie in a Negan style (The Walking Death) is the only horror element. Otherwise it's a lot of boring dialogues.
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Like a fairy tale
This episode is very special as it is a bit like a fairy take for everyone looking a romantic twosome life.
But it's not really credible that two guys would find each other in a desolate apocalyptic world just like that and choose to live happy together until the end of life. Without falling victim to the blight. Without bein killed by gangs. We all have seen how hard it is to survive in The Walking Dead...
At the same time this can be the beginning for a new kind of apocalyptic film giving hope that people can find each other and survive the impossible.
It would have been interesting to have these two around for more than one episode.
Tin Star (2017)
A town full of idiots
I was looking for a typical thriller series showing a small town with strong characters and a lot of secrets. And a case with a clear line between the good guys and the bad guys.
The series started like that but suddenly all characters began to act like they lack logic. Just a bunch of idiots doing the worst thing in every situation.
So that leads to a series where there are no good and no bad people. Only bad people. Which makes the series exaggerated and not credible.
While the first season made this for a moment interesting, in the second season this got just more and more painful to watch.
El páramo (2021)
Waste of time
Secluded farmers family of three goes lunatic in isolation. My partner wondered what this film is about.
No horror or mystery film, just waste of time. Although some images are beautiful.
Another Life (2019)
Scifi for and about youngsters
Some kind of science fiction series with Battlestar Galactica veterans leading inexperienced youngsters behaving like children. I'm wondering how these children would make the cut for such a mission with their thinkibg capacity of 5 years old children.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Childish violence
Strange mix of funny, childish elements with violence. Similar to The Cube or Danger Room movies with different people having to go through a labyrinth of horrors but done in a comedy style.
Dune (2021)
Slow
The remake is even slower than the original which makes it even harderto understand what us happening if you dont know the story. My partner even missed how important the spice is for long-distance transportation in this galactic empire.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
All survivors are idiots
Some kind of apocalyptic road movie. 90 % if the series are just empty dialogues. Everybody is behaving like idiots who have earned being eaten alive by zombies.
Snowpiercer: Many Miles from Snowpiercer (2021)
Good episode within a repetitive series
I have already lost interest in Snowpiercer because it'a becoming repetitive with unrests in different combinations. But this episode took me back to apocalyptic lone survivor movies where aliens, mutants or zombies are lurking behind next corner. Or just unfriendly environment, hunger and loliness.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Slow & dumb
Another slow apocalyptic movie with people making dumb decisions and plot holes piling up. Ok to watch once and never again.
El hoyo (2019)
Felt like 3 hours
Some kind of Saw / The Cube copy. It felt like 3 hours but the film was only 1 1/2 hours.
Star Trek: Picard: Absolute Candor (2020)
Who are these people?
The series is still introducing new characters making the story more and more into a mess. Slow cooking story competing with my mobile phone. And the come back of the borh icon 7 of 9 didn't really give me the chill. Who are all these people?
Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks (2019)
Stupidity tail from the episode before
In the last episode I expressed that some ice magic might have lowered our heroes" IQ. Leading to worse war strategy decisions. In this episode they keep on making stupid battle decisions. Just like in horror films where the heroes decide to split up instead of staying together.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
So stupid it hurts
Everybody has anticipated this great battle which failed to impress for several reasons: (1) It was so dark that I almost didn't recognize what was happening. (2) Everybody behaved so stupid in this battle that I'm wonderibg how these characters made it to this season - maybe some ice magic lowered their IQ and strategic skills.
Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2019)
Good old friends drinking whiskey & wine
The second episode gained some velocity compared to the lame start in the former episode. Unfortunately it looked like the evening before the coming battle was stretched into the whole episode with main characters getting drunk, laid & telling stories to fill the episode.
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
Most boring episode
My expectations were high but here I just saw almost 50 minutes of soldiers and refugees walking into Winterfell. Known and unknown characters were making an entrance like on some kind of medieval cat walk.
Solo (2018)
Slow
This sounds like a tense survival movie but turns out to be a slow movie with retropectives & dreams filling the gaps in the first half of the film. Gets a bit better in the second half.
Gojira: hoshi wo kû mono (2018)
More talking than action
More than half of the film was pseudo religious talking to greenish background images that may have been caused by alcoholised minds. Forwarding fast to the real action (maybe 10 min in total) was the only way not to fall asleep or turn off the film.
