In a Violent Nature (2024)
If you're going to follow the killer, follow the killer.
This movie had a good idea and I was here for it but it definitely had its issues and broke its own rules. It's presented as an over the shoulder horror film from the perspective of the Jason-like killer. The shots were interesting and the kills were creative and well done but the story telling was a bit lazy and did not follow through. We should have never left the killers prospective and the backstory should not have been told from a bunch of kids at a campfire, they should have stayed with the memory type moment they had at the beginning when he saw the lookalike necklace. Why do that if you aren't going to use it? Or at the very least you should've stayed over the shoulder of the killer during the campfire scene. Fast forward through till the end of the film....why did they break their own rules and leave the killer to follow the final girl??? Completely pointless and ruined the entire idea of a fresh take on how the movie was marketed in the first place. We should have never left the killer the entire movie, we already know the final girl story, it would've been great to see what the killer does after she gets away, especially in these movies. If it didn't end like it did, I would've given this film a solid 7. Disappointing to say the least.
Griselda (2024)
The good ratings are from people who don't know the source material.
Another example of men writing about women. They can't apparently have a woman, out of all people, be the coldest person in the story. They made her way to soft, emotionally fragile, and sympathetic in this rendition. The real Griselda was so much more powerful and intimidating than this, her coldness knew no bounds in real life. I'm not sure why people keep having issues showing her in her full cold hearted glory! She was a beast since childhood, she didn't discover her power as an adult, she found her stride as a child. I appreciate some of the other events being somewhat accurate but I don't think they captured the essence of Griselda. The show lacked the soul and passion. Not once did I fear Griselda and it's a shame. I wanted to have the pants scared off me by this woman.
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Don't believe the bad reviews.
The bad reviews are left by snobby purists who can't just relax and enjoy a show. Anne Rice herself worked on this and called it an adaptation of her work. Just watch the show and see for yourself, try not to think about the books too seriously. A lot of things line up but the things they changed did not harm the heart of the story. The actor who plays Lestat is great at playing his thoughts and emotions on his face, you have to see all the actors performances as well! Please just give this show a chance out of respect for all the hard work Anne and everyone put into it before she passed away.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Movie Based in '98 with CGI from '98
The movie was one giant fan service, while that might sound like the best thing ever, it only caused the film to be cluttered and messy. The story was all over the place and hard to follow, though to be honest there wasn't much of coherent story to begin with. The worst part was the CGI, not sure if they didn't have the money or what but the tracking was off on a good amount of the CGI. It was just bad and took me out of the movie every time it popped up. I've seen movies from actual 1998 that had better CGI. The practical effects were good however, though I'm not overly sure if it's good by comparison or actually good. The acting wasn't too bad but I think the casting was off, and some of the characters' personalities weren't exactly game accurate. All together it was a fun action packed movie that lacked a soul, that's why I didn't give it a horrendous rating, it's still enjoyable. 'A' for effort.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
This movie should've been called Contrived.
I'm really not sure what movie the good reviews saw but it wasn't this one. The editing and cinematography was so contrived(everything about this movie was contrived actually) that it took me out of the film, an awkward camera motion or angle later and I was left wondering if I was watching a fan film. The script was either butchered by producers and/or the editor or the writer should quit, nothing about this movie seemed complete to me and it was poorly executed. I knew from the second the killer showed up on screen that he/she was going to be the killer at the end, no surprises really. And finally, Chris Rock, ugh. This is why you don't let producers act in their own films. He was stiff and calculated, and not in a good way. His constant "I am brooding and angry" squint the entire movie just took me completely out of the experience. Every emotion he showed felt forced and rehearsed, not to mention the squinting again for every emotion he had. I like Chris Rock as a comedian but maybe horror or serious isn't his thing. Maybe he needs to be directed better or at all? Who knows but he was horrible in this film and by far dragged the movie down with him. Everyone else acted well by comparison. Finally, Samual L Jackson was wasted in this role, he was barely in the film at all and it could've been any actor in this role. I love him but there was no reason he needed to be in this movie. I gave this a 2 because I didn't want to completely trash the rating because of the actors that tried their best despite the producer/actor.
Kamera o tomeru na! (2017)
Unique
The people who are giving this film bad reviews either didn't understand what it was about or didn't watch past 37 minutes. I enjoyed this film and appreciate the trouble they went through to make it. Amazing.
Doctor Who: Fugitive of the Judoon (2020)
Retcon
Oh god...it's just...why? Please stop the retcon. I reeeeaaally hope they're just messing with us. Only reason for a 2 is I was happy to see Jack but I can see right through this ploy. Feed us a little Jack to distract from the MASSIVE retcon they're doing.
Doctor Who: Orphan 55 (2020)
Amazed and not in a good way.
I feel like the writers don't know what they're doing. This episode was all over the place, it was as if they didn't know who to focus on or what story to commit too. It makes zero sense as to why they had the group leave the dome to only get trapped and have to go back to the dome. When it comes to writing this episode was a big nono. The new show runners really think the audience is either dumb or young and have zero respect for us or doctor who in general. I was hopeful that they'd try harder this season but it seems as though they don't care much and think they can just skate by because the fan base is already established. Hope you guys are happy with the direction you're taking this because a lot of the fan base aren't.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse Then (2018)
Disappointing and anticlimactic
While I loved the season, the finale felt rushed and bland in comparison to the rest of the season. The fact that Mallory goes back and runs the spawn of Satan over with her car was laughable. This entire season painted her as the all powerful witch and she resorts to hitting a man with a car? No clever writing for the finally and honestly quite disappointing.
The Dead Files (2011)
Horrible
The acting is sooooo bad, it's cringeworthy. I don't believe a single thing any of them are saying because of how bad the acting is.
Beulraek (2017)
Don't believe the low rated reviews.
The people who gave this low reviews only watched an episode or two, I promise you the questions you start having throughout the series will be answered at some point. The acting was great! Prepare yourself for an emotional ride and moments of saying omg and wtf. My only complaint was the ending, it felt slightly underwhelming compared to the episode before. Definitely still watch it though!! Great crime drama, though it will break your heart!
