Dating Rules from My Future Self (2012)
Great storyline, Interesting and Funny
The whole of series 1 and 2 was great. The episodes are short and snappy, with no padding in the story. It's all good and relevant. I watched both seasons tonight and each was as good as the last. I hope there's another series. Surprisingly, the episodes were mostly between 5-9 minutes. Hopefully the writers of the show will make another series with 22 minute slots. The characters are great and the concept is fresh. This show is all about character development and learning to better oneself. I was surprised about a whole new environment and the new characters in season 2, but this succeeded and probably enhanced my viewing experience because a change of scenery enabled the story to progress further and still be creative.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
Great and interesting throughout
I watched this on TV and didn't expect much. I don't like period dramas or anything that may be historical but to my pleasant surprise, this story was interesting and fast paced throughout. I don't understand the low ratings, unless you're into stuff that's 100% like real life, but the point of this story was to set it in a time where vampires could be plausible. I.E. when shooting someone, you can get away with it because there's no DNA evidence and such. The casting was good and the storyline had a couple of fresh ideas thrown in to make it better and add to the quality of the film, with twists. I think anyone seeking out a good film should try it, because it has a good mixture of violence and real reasons behind that violence in the form of vengeance.
The Host (2013)
Most films have 1 or 2 slow bits...the whole film is slow!
I was warned about the film being slow. I will have to bring more attention to this because I never realized how slow a film could possibly be. The Host is so slow that you could pause it and it'd move faster. Shouldn't such a long film warrant a thick plot that should be explained? Yes, but unlike the book, the film is extremely simple and suffers for it.
Spoiler: There's no sufferer of cancer. We do not see Melanie with her therapist and living in the alien society first, it skips it. Kyle does not get to develop. He does not seek Jodi (she apparently doesn't exist in the film) and have to be with her alien self.
So basically, we end up with a simple linear story that results in long moments of empty staring and breathing. I could tell other people were bored - they were on their phones for most of the film. I also disliked *sort of spoiler the actress at the end. I was so looking forward to seeing Jamie capture a sweet looking blonde. Then, explaining why as he did in the book. Nope, we just have a petite brunette with a weird looking face. Casting = bad. Where are all the beautiful people? The book promises a beautiful, innocent looking petite blonde with wavy hair who is too fragile to pick up heavy things, who people instantly warm to.
That was missing. My uplifting ending. It was kind of neutral, unfeeling, forced. Like the film.
Warm Bodies (2013)
Best Film I've Seen in Years
I'm hard to please in terms of films because they generally follow the same format. I watch 4 clips on the internet for Warm Bodies and thought it looked good. It was absolutely amazing and I would recommend this film for everyone! Everything is perfect. I love the actors, the plot, the way the story unfolds, the romance, the action (guns), the humour (quite a lot of people laughing in the cinema)! It was beautiful and a film that makes you feel something. I like how everything happens. There's conflict, drama and moments of intensity. It's only a little slow in parts, but not dull. Everything happens for a reason in this film and from the exposition to the ending you root for Julie and R.
