Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Some people are never happy
For every film on here, you will find people who 'think' they are experts on every aspect of film making. These people also claim to be 'fans' of a franchise. The same people will insist that the films would have been better off never had been made. Ignore these people. Ignore their reviews. Ignore their complaints.
This film was the end of the latest of the revitalised franchise and fitted well within the three. It carried on where TLJ left off. It was full of action, great cameos, amazing soundtrack, effects and a lovely story.
Everyone has an opinion on how the saga should go and most of the people on here seem to believe that their opinion is the correct one. Strange, as they aren't part of anything to do with the film.
It's a great end to the saga and I am sad that it has ended.
Yes, Rey is powerful, but everyone has to get their power from somewhere. People moaning that it's stupid etc, seem to be forgetting they are watching a film about a galactic battle for power, set a long, long time ago. They need to perhaps look at where they draw the line of reality in such a situation.
Please watch it and appreciate the whole story for what it is. A beautiful story spread across 9 films, each of which adds to the saga in its own unique way to give us the franchise that is Star Wars.
Crown for Christmas (2015)
What are people watching?
'Hallmark' movie or not, its certainly not worth anything more than 5/10.
I enjoy Christmas cheezy movies and that's what this is...watchable...apart from the plot is predictable, acting is awful and some of the dubbed lines are terrible.
I had to watch it as it was put on the TV, so I endured it for the duration.
It's a shame that it'srating is so terribly inflated. If this is rated 9 or 10/10, then what are people rating historically good films?
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Exactly what it says on the tin
This series is exactly what you expect from a series titled 'Love, Death & Robots' made by Netflix.
Stories are variable in quality, but hey...I enjoyed them all.
As for the 'critics' comment asbout sexualising women etc....show me any game and Marvel film that doesn't....even Black Panther does a good job of this (that critics have picked for an Oscar...hmm).
Anyway, on to the series....
The animation is EXCELLENT. Variable and fantastic. When each episode starts, i think 'oh i'm not sure about this animation style'...within 30secs, I'm thinking 'I cant see any other animation style working for this episode'.
Every other aspect is good...better than most films released currently, comparatively.
Annihilation (2018)
It is what it is...
A different look at sci-fi. A film that takes you on a journey. It isnt perfect, but I believe its a much needed different view/idea on the genre.
Firstly, lets look at some of the negative reviews...especially one which goes to list some of their grievances...
Firearms - training can be given in firearms. You dont have to be in the military to hold an automatic weapon (especially as that person then went on to complain they werent then supplied with sidearms.
Using glives for samples - correct, aseptic techniques are key to getting 'clean' samples...however, under the circumstances, getting a sample at all would be a feat.
Getting in a boat after the croc scene - it wasnt on steroids. As the film suggested, its DNA had changed/merged. The science behind it was a little vague, agreed, but still, it IS a sci-fi film.
On the positive side, Deciding on going in to a cinema and watching the likes of Pacific Rim, Jurassic Park or any other sci-fi film should be viewed on its merit. It is what it is. If you want a film that makes complete sense scientifically, then probably best to not watch any sci-fi film full stop.
This film has some very good acting along with an interesting cast. The soundtrack is very, very good and adds a lot of depth to the viewing.
The visuals are also very very good with some very nice touches with the cinematography (looking through the glass of water and her wedding ring very clear, when she was thinking of her husband was a good example of this).
Not only a sci-fi film, but also highlighted moral and personal issues very well.
