L'argent de poche (1976)
Like good wine, improves as time goes by.
It is a delicate and frail construction. You could nearly say: there is no scenario. Well, it's life! Are we following a scenario? The film is about childhood. The children are excellent, much better than some of the adults.
It was a very ambitious project, to tell a story where there is not much "special" to talk about, with a score of characters. There is a Nashville touch; had Truffaut and Schiffman seen it? maybe they had heard about the project. Anyway Truffaut had been gathering notes for several years when the shooting took place during summer 1975. It's a series of snapshots of school and family life seen from an unbiased point of view: it's not a 'child' point of view, neither an 'adult' one, so we laugh at both the adults and the children!
There are so many things I enjoyed, that I know I'll see "L'argent de poche" again. I believe more and more people will recognize here a very good Truffaut, in retrospect.
