Rooftops (1989)
Avoid this movie...your life depends on it
8 January 2005
I have the sneaking suspicion that the the story behind the movie "The Ring" , wherein people die after watching a video, came to someone after watching this movie. My own VCR exploded in protest while I was watching it. It probably saved my life. It is the rarest of films, one in which absolutely none of the elements work. If you intentionally set out to make the worst movie in the world, I doubt you could equal the unholy "Rooftops". I have a method I use for measuring how bad a particular work is. I call it the David Lee Roth factor. Simply ask yourself "Would this be any worse if David Lee Roth were somehow involved?" In the case of "Rooftops", the answer is a resounding "No!" Believe you me, you don't want to see or hear anything that David Lee Roth can't ruin.

Elephant Parts (1981 Video)
Hilarious and Pioneering
8 January 2005
I just got "Elephant Parts" on DVD and it made me laugh the same way it did 15 years ago. Some of the music videos are a little dated but considering this was made before MTV they show how far Nesmith was ahead of the crowd (to the point of poking fun at the format before it was widespread). In fact, Nesmith came up with the music video channel concept but was told no one would watch a 24 hour music channel. Right. The comedy segments still hold up very well and in fact are of higher quality than SNL or Mad TV any day of the week. Highlights are "Neighborhood Nuclear Superiority" and the horror movie spoof "Have a Nice Day". A hilarious and pioneering work, do yourself a favor and buy it right now!
