Stan Lee's Lucky Man (2016)
Are we so mentally challenged that we need a sound to tell us when "luck" magic is taking place? And if so, who chose the horrific sound effect for when "luck" happens.
I cannot review anything beyond the stupid sound that explicitly informs the viewer about the "magic" taking place. Is the target audience children? Is it the late 80's early 90's? Idiocracy here we come, just make a show called "ow my balls" already. This show doesn't warrant the 10 lines minimum required to post a review, but as it is the minimum I will say I do not mind the premise but the hero, with all too human vices, is as tired a concept as the estranged ex wife and child. Stop making the same tired old shows with contemporary adaptation and increasingly explicit cues for the views. I give this a single star to express my disappointment in another wasted opportunity for great story telling.
Self/less (2015)
Tired and Predictable
The idea of transferring your consciousness to a new body has massive potential for exploring future ethical and moral implications and how it would effect society and individuals. None of this was explored, instead once the body migration is complete we are taken on a boring narrow predictable Hollywood journey of a typical dude doing everything he can to save his child and wife, car chases, shoot outs, hand to hand fighting. Break for a pathetic scene where he bonds with the child and shows his sensitive side while the wife watches, resolve past life relationships and then make the "self less" sacrifice at the end so everyone is happy despite the young child witnessing multiple acts of violence and death. Someone should actually write a new script one day instead of churning out this tired old Hollywood format.
