Harry O: Such Dust as Dreams Are Made On (1973)
Season 1, Episode 0
10/10
This is the pilot that should have sold the series

Warning: Spoilers
To be honest, I first saw this movie not knowing that is was a pilot for a television show. Looking back at the history of Harry O, it seems ridiculous that another pilot had to be shot before Harry O could make it to television. Test audiences said that Harry Orwell was too sullen. To start off with, I would not be a happy guy if I had a bullet lodged in my back and I had lost my police partner in the same incident. Secondly, I believe the character had humor but the humor was based of his sarcasm and aloofness. I enjoyed the way Janssen played the character and it really was not much different than the television show version.

As far as the movie is concerned, I believe it was well scripted. The acting was good and Janssen was excellent. I enjoyed the plot twist when Harry O believed he shot and killed Walter Scheerer (Sal Mineo) after getting sprayed in the eyes with some chemicals when it turned out he really shot a sack of red pigment.

The only negative about this movie was its editing. About half an hour of footage was removed and later used in an episode of Harry O. When Harry O was canceled, the original footage was put back in. It is weird seeing this movie with all the footage and that episode when the characters were made to be different and we know that they were not.
