I get what folks are saying about it being more a metaphor on going with the flow. For me it didn't work. It just made everything completely unbelievable and therefore any of the nasty bits there solely for cheap shocks. I mean at one point the kid shows guy what is clearly a removed tongue l, yet that still doesn't give him any cause for concern or questions.
I don't know any Danes so maybe it resonates more with their way of life. However I don't believe for a second anyone won't fight till the end to protect the life of their child.
On a positive the cinematography was excellent and the way they paced the film good.
