Gritty Indy Flick
12 October 2014
This is an independent horror flick, filmed in the found footage tradition of the hand-held cam. It's based around a trio of lowlifes who decide to commit a home invasion, unfortunately for them they chose the wrong house to invade. The film has a genuinely gritty feel to it that can only be captured with indie films. The characters feel believable, they may be a bit over the top, but it's par for the course. You put anyone on camera and they act over the top, put a maniac on tape and watch hell unleashed. The film also has it's share of comic relief, though twisted it may be. It comes across to me as an homage to old grindhouse flicks, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Last House On the Left. Admittedly at times, the films comes across a bit amateurish (this is an indie flick, get over it!) and a few scenes could have been shortened, I think, but overall it is well worth a viewing.

The Truck (2013)

Fun road/slasher flick
22 November 2013
It's amazing what Lee Vervoort and crew were able to achieve with a meager budget of $6k. This movie features some intense chase scenes, and some amazing stunts that would normally only be reserved for high budget movies. It even has a really cool and unique stalking scene in a warehouse, performed almost completely while the characters remained inside their vehicles. It also features many hilarious and awesome kills and great lines. With that said this movie isn't perfect; the kills are pretty low budget, and acting shaky at points (though on the other hand some of it is surprisingly good) but it kind of adds to the charm. This is the kind of movie to watch with friends and some beers. It is very much in the tradition of low-budget 80's horror flicks.
