Ahsoka (2023)
Grandad Miral, Every episode was worse than the last.
Grand Admiral. I bet they wanted that to sound menacing. Yet every time I heard someone say it, I heard Grandad Miral. I just thought he's about to get some space toffee out of his pocket for the grandkids.
Everything in space looked and worked like it was flying through the air or underwater. There was zero understanding of space, it was very amateurish.
I thought Star Wars: Deadliest catch was bad enough with the space whales, but Star Wars: the Walking Dead in the last episode really jumped the shark on this dire series. I can't think of a single redeeming plot point or character in this series. Do yourself a favour a skip this one.
Deadliest Catch: The Viking Returns (2022)
Deadliest Catch the greatest hits
Really love this new series, I like the new adventures and new markets and fresh seas. Mandy and Jake make this show so much better than when Sig and Wild Bill came during the regular show last season. I'm hoping we can see them update the boats to work more efficiently for volume crab fishing rather than using the make-shift workarounds they have now. I think updating the boats would add an extra dimension to the show where the Norwegien fishermen are also adapting, not just the US fishermen. I really like seeing Mandy & Jake working on the businesses side making deals rather than just fishing.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Clever storyline driven by underlying political themes and allegory.
Theme: Gender Identity
Allegories: The Wachowskis Brothers/Sisters; Larry/Lana & Andy/Lilly's Relationship.
Larry's transition to Female Lana.
Right Wing Politics, cancel culture and twitter trolls.
Neo's new Game is called Binary, 1's and 0's.
The 'One', Neo has an opposite counterpart '0' = Smith.
They work together. Then split up. Smith helps Neo, and then morphs into another person and vanishes, leaving Neo to finish the film.
Larry/Lana is Neo/The One, Andy/Lilly is Smith. They make the 3 Matrix Films together as partners, then Lilly leaves and Lana finishes the 4th film.
Neo & Trinity become The One, a pair, Male & Female, Non-Binary. Trinity takes over as the lead of The One and saves Neo. The Female saves the Male in The One and they both fly upward; Neo carried by Trinity. Lana transistioning from Larry, Lana saves Larry and Lana is the lead now.
The Action wasn't anywhere near as good as the other Matrix films but the story line was much better than the other sequels and has cast film 3 in a new light.
The Hovership is called the Mnemosyne and is basically the story line of the first part of the film. Mnemosyne is an old Japanese Animie about a woman that finds a man with distorted memories. She discovers that he is a clone, his memory lacks realism, because they are actually written into his brain by artificial means. -A bit on-the-nose really!
The Merovingian is Right Wing Politics and cancel culture. The Merovingian doesn't like how new media has changed the world, he was cancelled. He hates The One, and wants it to go back to how it was in the olden days of the original Matrix and Neo is the target for his dissatifaction with the world, even though Neo didn't change the world/matrix, the machines did. The Merovingian looks like a troll and 'twitters' on-and-on about nothing, never making any sensible or coherant points and then dissappears, never refered to again, like a troll moving on.
I really liked Neil Patrick Harris, and I assume he partly was cast because he is one of the few openly gay Hollywood Actors that had to keep his sexuality hidden for years before coming out.
My original favourite order of the films was 1, 2, 3. It's now 1, 4, 3, 2.
Elementary: The Further Adventures (2019)
Unwatchable, I had to turn it off after 27 mins.
I have watched all of this show and really enjoyed it, apart from this episode where it all went wrong. As someone from the UK, everything in the episode that is meant to illustrate the UK is irritatingly wrong.
With the exceptions of Jonny Lee Miller, Tamsin Greig and Ophelia Lovibond the UK accents and scripts were extremely poor, they sound like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. The settings, buildings, cars and registration plates were obviously nothing like the UK. The sound effects like police sirens are not UK police sirens.
The script for the UK characters was written using language and sentence structures that we don't use. I would have thought that a lead UK actor would have been a useful resource for the writers, to be able to double check that what they were writing sounded normal. Unfortunately the episode was an American cliché of the UK. With such poor understanding of the UK, I don't think I could watch any more of this season. Hopefully the setting returns to the US soon.
The BFG (2016)
Adult rating - Meh. 7yo's rating "Is it finished yet?"
The BFG is a funny book. The David Jason 1989 animated film is funny, this really isn't. The film was too long for young children, who the story is aimed at. It kept me entertained because I knew the story well but I was disappointed. I hated Shopie's (Ruby Barnwell's) weird wooden acting, there was no connection between her and any other character - especially as most of it is green screen, on her own, and she's just not good at it. The best performance was Jemaine Clement as Fleshlumpeater. I didn't even know this was a Spielberg film until the credits and I thought "This film should have been better." Spielberg really let himself down with this. I went to see this with my 7 year old niece, who is a mature 7; an hour into the film she was asking when it finished. If you want to watch the BFG, watch the 1989 animated one.
