Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023)
A Confused Blend of Comedy, Masala, and Social Awareness
Plot was thin as a piece of paper, in one word the plot was zilch. A girl, date raped, a boy in love with her, fights to bring her justice, that's it. Now how to extend this plot for a 2.5 hours long movie is what the director has miraculously done here - sarcasm alert.
Very long, almost 45 minutes too long with very casual acting especially by Kiara Advani; in some scenes I can literally point a finger and say she was not at all in her character. None of the song could hook me up, albeit the movie was filled with numerous songs which added nothing to the movie other than extending the runtime. Pasoori song's remake was one of the biggest disappointments too. The dialogues were poor, at times amateurish and felt as if some teenagers were talking. Full of cheesy dialogues and cringe-worthy conversations. The last 45 minutes were completely extended and movie just went on and on for no solid reason.
Overall I would not recommend this movie to anyone as it doesn't really realize whether it is a comedy, or a Bollywood's masala movie, or a social awareness movie. Mixed it all and could not really do justice to any of the genre.
Aaja Nachle (2007)
Plain and Predictive
Below average movie, as far as I remember it was a comeback movie of Madhuri Dikshit although it has no charm in it other than having beautiful songs. The story has no depth, no curves, no twists, its a one directional movie with no depth at all. The story is plain, simple and predictive, it ends up being a utopia where everything is perfect; perfect and happy enough to be too good to be true. The plot is brief, briefer than this review itself. Acting is ok but when no depth in the characters is present, no actor can give solid performance. Songs are great and after more than 15 years you can still enjoy them. Overall a pretty bad plot with bad narration and under par performances.
Grave (2016)
Unappetizing Blend of Fetishes and Gore
The movie left me grappling with its theme of cannibalism, a concept that failed to enchant my cinematic preferences. The movie ventures into realms of fetishes, gore, and violence, albeit briefly, which contributed to my lack of enjoyment. Unfortunately, the storyline struggled to ground itself in reality, and the ending felt unsatisfyingly contrived. In terms of acting, while being a French film, it didn't match the caliber of other dark French masterpieces like "Swimming Pool." While the film might captivate those intrigued by its unique and offbeat theme, it fell short of leaving a profound impact on me.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023)
A Blend of Karan Johar's Trademarks and Departures
Not a fan of Karan Johar movies at all, even this had his signature cringe worthy content in the first half, offering a predictable romantic narrative. However, the latter half takes an unexpected turn, addressing significant social norms and delivering eye-opening moments. This transformation from a typical romance to a message-driven film provides a refreshing perspective. The romantic aspect remains average and less convincing, yet the movie's focus on important messages compensates for its shortcomings. Acting and songs fall within the okay range, and the film's direction and lavish sets add the trademark Karan Johar grandeur. While not groundbreaking, the film does deviate slightly from the usual Karan Johar formula, making it a marginally different cinematic experience. Enjoyable for sure.
Gadar 2 (2023)
Nostalgia-Driven Sequel that Falls Short of the Original
"Gadar 2" attempts to recapture the raw authenticity of its predecessor but falls short in delivering the same impact. While the first installment was a genuine portrayal of rustic life, "Gadar 2" takes a predictable route, lacking the element of surprise that kept audiences guessing in the original. The storyline follows a similar trajectory, and the familiarity of the narrative dampens the excitement.
While the film caters to the mass audience of 2023 with its action-packed sequences, it doesn't quite match up to the original's genuine charm. Nostalgia is evoked in various scenes, but the movie feels less organic, as if it was artificially spiced up for the modern audience's palate.
The father-son dynamic takes center stage in "Gadar 2," a departure from the husband-wife focus of its predecessor. Sunny Deol does justice to his role as a caring father and action hero, while the supporting cast delivers average performances. The antagonist's portrayal is commendable, though it doesn't quite reach the level of Amrish Puri's iconic role in the first film.
The direction maintains a decent pace, but the film loses some of the authenticity that made the original so compelling. The reliance on sets instead of real locations diminishes the raw atmosphere that was a hallmark of "Gadar 1."
In summary, "Gadar 2" provides an average viewing experience. While it may not live up to the impact of the first film, fans of the original will still find moments of enjoyment. Nostalgia plays a significant role in keeping the audience engaged, even though the storyline offers nothing particularly new. Overall, "Gadar 2" remains an entertaining and mass-pleasing movie, though it doesn't quite match the authenticity and charm of its predecessor.
Daughter (2022)
Lost in a Maze of Unanswered Questions
The movie presents a perplexing journey filled with narrative gaps and illogical choices. The film stumbles through a maze of plot holes, leaving viewers scratching their heads at the bewildering behaviors of characters. Unfortunately, the antagonist's motives are shrouded in mystery, with no clear explanation for his puzzling actions. The perplexity deepens as the audience grapples with questions like why he kidnaps people to form his 'family' and the murky origins of his so-called son.
The storyline suffers from a lack of coherent reasoning, rendering the antagonist's actions nonsensical and perplexing. As the movie unfolds, you're left grappling with a sense of aimlessness, struggling to find any purpose behind the illogical steps characters take. The result is a cinematic experience that lacks the crucial foundation of a comprehensible narrative.
Even the behavior of the daughter, presumably a central character, adds to the confusion. Her seemingly irrational choices in dire situations defy common sense, contributing to the overall sense of frustration. Instead of prioritizing her own safety, her efforts to 'save' her brainwashed brother come across as bizarre and frustratingly illogical.
"Daughter" is further hampered by a sluggish pace that fails to engage the audience effectively. The lack of clear reasoning behind characters' actions makes it difficult to invest emotionally in their journeys. As a result, what could have been a compelling narrative is reduced to a convoluted and bewildering mess.
OMG 2 (2023)
Breaking Boundaries and Barriers with Brilliance
"OMG 2" boldly showcases that a constrained budget is no obstacle to creating a compelling and impactful film. This gem deserves a solid 8 stars, but the real-world context in India, where discussing sex is still a taboo, adds another layer of significance, earning it an extra half-star for a well-deserved 9 stars.
Tackling the theme of sex education with exceptional sensibility and quality, the movie dismantles biases and stigmas, leaving the audience with a profound message that transcends social dogmas. As the movie progresses, it manages to erase preconceived notions and provoke genuine applause for its well-crafted, socially relevant message.
Beyond its message, "OMG 2" masterfully balances entertainment with enlightenment. This all-round entertainer doesn't just raise awareness; it packs humor, emotion, and a gripping courtroom drama that adds a dash of thrilling suspense.
Acting prowess shines brightly, with Pankaj Tripathi's captivating performance stealing the show once again. Yami Gautam's remarkable acting further solidifies her reputation as a versatile artist, and Akshay Kumar's brief appearance is a delightful nod to his iconic role in "Bhool Bhulaiyya."
It's essential to note that the movie's explicit theme might discomfort some audiences. However, those with an open mind and a thirst for knowledge will deeply appreciate its insightful and humorous approach. "OMG 2" is an eye-opener that entertains, educates, and challenges societal norms. While its bold conversations might ruffle conservative sensibilities, the film remains an enlightening watch for any mature audience seeking an engaging and thought-provoking experience.
Desearás al hombre de tu hermana (2017)
A Cringe-Worthy Cinematic Flop
"Desire" (2017) was a total flop-show and unbearable. It's like they took a adult film storyline and slapped it onto the big screen, thinking that'd make a movie. Seriously, it's practically softcore adult movie parading as a mainstream flick. You've got messed-up family cheating drama, screwed-up desires, and these weird fantasies that honestly bring zero value to the table. They even added gore and violence to satiate the hunger of people having those fantasies. I mean, come on, why bother? It's like they aimed for shock value and forgot about any kind of substance. I couldn't roll my eyes hard enough. This one's a solid zero stars in my book. Total waste of time.
Fall (2022)
Lack of common sense made the film Fall apart
"Fall" begins with a promising premise, offering a unique narrative that could have left a profound impact. The potential for a lasting imprint on the viewer's mind is evident, but unfortunately, the movie falls short in several crucial aspects. While it introduces an intriguing twist and boasts competent direction, the film's portrayal of events lacks the authenticity one would expect in reality.
The climber culture depicted in the movie raises eyebrows, as it often veers away from common sense and professional conduct. This oversight detracts from the film's overall quality, making the characters' decisions appear questionable and undermining the viewer's engagement.
The positive aspect of a surprising twist and skillful direction is evident, providing some redeeming qualities to the film. However, the lack of realism and common sense hampers its effectiveness as a cinematic experience.
La pianiste (2001)
A Disconcerting Exploration That Failed to Connect
"A Piano Teacher," directed by Michael Haneke, presents a disconcerting journey into the depths of human desires and repression. However, despite its attempt at profundity, the film left me largely unsatisfied and disconnected.
Set in the world of a conservatory, the movie aims to unravel the complexities of its characters' emotions. Haneke's trademark realism and unfiltered perspective are evident, but rather than drawing me in, they created a sense of detachment. The exploration of isolation, control, and relationships felt more jarring than insightful.
Isabelle Huppert's performance as Erika is undeniably dedicated, but the character's internal struggles failed to resonate with me. Her portrayal, while capturing the turmoil, seemed distant, preventing me from fully engaging with her journey.
"A Piano Teacher" embraces the darker facets of human nature, which, while intriguing, ultimately left me unsettled without offering substantial substance. The film's unrelenting approach might be appreciated by some for its authenticity, but for me, it resulted in a lack of emotional investment.
The movie's disquieting atmosphere, though intentional, hindered my connection with the narrative. The tension and unease that Haneke skillfully crafts didn't evoke introspection; instead, they left me questioning the purpose of the film's discomfort.
In conclusion, "A Piano Teacher" is a disquieting exploration that aimed to probe the human psyche but missed the mark for my personal viewing experience. Despite its dedication to realism and the committed performances, the film left me disconnected and disengaged. While it might resonate with audiences seeking a deeply unsettling experience, it falls short of earning a higher rating from me.
Kaalkoot (2023)
An Average Series Hindered by Unnecessary Subplots
Kaalkoot starts with promise as it delves into the investigation of an acid attack, but unfortunately, it falls short of delivering a gripping narrative. The series seemed to have the potential for a twisty and unique ending but ultimately settles for a clichéd one, leaving much to be desired.
As the series progresses, it introduces numerous characters with their own non-essential storylines, leading to a cluttered and unfocused plot. The main investigation becomes entangled amidst unnecessary subplots that seem to serve no purpose other than extending the duration of the series. The series' quality goes downhill with each episode.
While the acting and cinematography are commendable, with real locations and authentic dialects adding depth to the setting, the overall impact of the series remains lackluster. Despite favorable user ratings, I found the series to be far from impressive.
The most disappointing aspect was the inclusion of a romanticist poet using profanity akin to a hip-hop rapper in a poem meant to motivate his son. This choice felt off-track and unrealistic, taking away from the authenticity the scene initially aimed to achieve.
Biwi. Com (2016)
Absurd!
This was ridiculous. Seemed like a parody but was an actual movie with absurd scenarios including multiple marriages of the same guy, medical report quoting a person has blood cancer and then the report being mentioned as fake, casual murder of someone and his body disposal and then the person being alive, change of groom in a wedding etc. Ask for stupidity and this movie kept on bringing more and more. Was an amazingly bad plot with average acting by all the actors. Felt as if actors knew it is bad yet they acted as if they would have felt something is better than nothing. Overall, a very poor film.
Kaabil (2017)
Emotionally Driven Movie
Kaabil, though an earnest attempt, falls short of becoming a standout film in the sea of Bollywood offerings. While it showcases a compelling storyline, the execution and overall impact remain average. The movie revolves around a visually impaired man seeking vengeance for a heinous crime against his wife, played by Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam, respectively.
The film does deserve credit for bringing visibility to the challenges faced by differently-abled individuals and the resilience they display. Hrithik Roshan delivers a commendable performance, capturing the vulnerability and determination of his character. However, the narrative lacks depth and fails to engage on a profound level.
Despite some well-choreographed action sequences and emotional moments, Kaabil struggles to maintain a consistent pace. The predictable plot twists further dampen the impact, leaving the audience craving for more originality.
The music, though pleasant, doesn't leave a lasting impression. Overall, Kaabil falls into the category of a decent one-time watch, but it fails to leave a lasting mark as an exceptional movie.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Old Wine in New Bottle
Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 continues the tried and tested formula of the franchise, presenting an edgy tech plot falling into the wrong hands, and Tom Cruise's iconic character attempting to save the day. While the movie delivers some thrilling action sequences, including a commendable jump from a cliff by Tom Cruise, it doesn't bring much new to the table.
The film follows the well-established Mission Impossible formula, with car chases, daring stunts, and high-octane action driving the narrative. While these elements remain entertaining, they don't offer any fresh perspective to the story, resulting in a sense of déjà vu for viewers familiar with the series.
Tom Cruise's dedication to performing his own stunts, particularly the cliff jump, deserves applause and adds an authentic touch to the movie. However, beyond these moments, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 feels like old wine in a new bottle, with a story that echoes previous installments in the franchise.
While the movie may not bring anything new to the series, it still manages to provide a satisfying and time-passing cinematic experience. Fans of the Mission Impossible franchise will likely enjoy the familiar action-packed adventure, even if it lacks innovation in its storyline, for others it will just be an average watch.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Not Your usual Nolan movie but a Tale of Science, Politics, and Cinematic Excellence
I loved the movie. It was an amazing watch at least for me. I won't be biased as I cannot call myself a fan of Nolan though I have liked most of his previous works. But to begin with, this is not a typical Christopher Nolan movie. His earlier movies were more into visual appeals and how he captured the panoramic and action sequences. Such scenes allow the director to experiment and come up with breathtaking scenes for the visual hunger of the audience which worked in Nolan's flavor, although, although, here comes the mastery of his work, as the movie Oppenheimer was not his typical action, thriller, adventure genre of movie where he could use his already hit templates, rather this was a plain biographical movie and his usual hit template had no use in it. The movie demanded something else, which was never Nolan's forte or maybe we weren't shown as such, with Oppenheimer Nolan showcases what he is capable of, which is, he is capable of pulling up a thriller cinematic experience out of a rather normal biographical movie on life of a physicist. He did not use any of his previous templates but rather focussed mainly on the dissection of the character of not just Oppenheimer but also people involved in his life. The colours of the characters one by one appeared in front of you just as layers of onion appear and the final colours of the characters when juxtaposed made the movie come out in flying colours. This was a rather perfect example of how direction and storytelling can engross the audience so much in a movie as if you are living someone else's life. This 3-hour movie was a piece of artwork and for me is the piece de resistant of Christopher Nolan.
Coming to the acting point, Cillian Murphy was absolutely on spot in portraying the multi-layered character of Oppenheimer, it appeared as if he was performing his heart out. And for me, this was Robert Downey Junior's best performance as an entertainer. The cast performed so well that the movie appeared as a theatrical performance. Not even once did I feel that these were the same actors whom I have already seen in some other roles like Iron Man by Robert Downey Junior. Each of the cast members even the ones with a few minutes of screenplay performed brilliantly. It was a treat to the eyes and heart how commendable their performance was.
To bring to your notice I have to mention that the movie is not a visual treat rather it is a cinematic marvel, so unlike the popular opinion I feel that this movie can easily be seen in normal theatres and watching it in Imax is not at all necessary although imax would make the viewing more immersive but commendable storytelling and a great piece of art does not demand an imax. You can go watch it wherever possible. Another point to be noted is that this movie is not for the general masala movie preferring mass. This movie is an art movie and not an entertainment movie so anyone thinking that he or she would get the vibes of earlier Christopher Nolan's work here will be disappointed as this is not similar to any of his previous work. It might be boring for some audiences as the movie has elements of science and politics which if you are unaware of, you might end up being confused, so at least a person must have an understanding of nuclear fission/fusion and a general understanding of world war 2 and world's condition at that time. Knowing more about scientists like Bohr, Einstein will only make understanding of the movie easier. But again if you watch the movie attentively with all your focus you will get what the movie is showing. The cinematography is on point and perfect, I could not cut any marks on the cinematography. This movie is a clear 9 out of 10. The only negative in the movie is as I earlier mentioned, it is not everyone's cup of tea and will not be understood by the normal general mass.
Overall the movie is not a casual watch, it is a beautiful cinematic journey and a brilliant movie which showcases that Christopher Nolan has the versatility and dynamism to produce a piece of art where it is hard to do so. For me, this is the best and most densely characterized biography I have watched to date. This is also a caution notice to anyone who thought Nolan will only produce a thrilling adventure movie throughout his career, this movie is different from his previous works yet excelled the expectations. I hope he still has more to give us.
The Black Phone (2021)
Familiar Thriller with Supernatural Intrigue
The Black Phone offers a blend of thriller and horror elements but leans more towards a straightforward kidnapping and escaping narrative. What sets it apart is the introduction of supernatural elements that provide a unique twist to an otherwise predictable storyline. This aspect adds some intrigue but doesn't fully elevate the movie beyond the usual serial killer thriller tropes.
The performances and direction are adequate, but they don't manage to compensate for the movie's lack of originality in storytelling. While it delivers some chilling moments and suspense, it ultimately falls short of creating a truly memorable cinematic experience.
In conclusion, the film's failure to explore new ground or deliver a more compelling narrative leaves it as an average addition to the genre. If you're looking for a straightforward and familiar thriller, The Black Phone might deliver some entertainment, but don't expect it to break new ground or leave a lasting impression.
Bawaal (2023)
A Sincere and Feel-Good Family Movie with a Heartwarming Message
Bawaal may not boast groundbreaking elements, but it succeeds as a family-friendly, feel-good film with sincere storytelling that leaves a positive impact. The movie takes a heartfelt approach to emphasize the importance of life, relationships, and the values by which we should live. It strikes a good balance between entertainment and thought-provoking moments, offering a mix of humor and emotions.
Varun Dhawan shines in the role of Ajju Bhai of Lucknow, delivering a commendable performance that adds charm and authenticity to the character. His portrayal adds depth to the story, and his comedic timing brings many light-hearted moments to the screen. On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor's acting skills seem to have room for improvement, particularly in dialogue delivery, which at times feels out of sync with the situation. Moreover, her accent, which doesn't quite fit the Uttar Pradesh setting, can be slightly distracting.
Bawaal manages to strike a chord with audiences through its genuine depiction of life's intricacies and the values that hold relationships together. The film explores humor and emotions effectively, allowing viewers to connect with the characters and their journeys. It successfully conveys the importance of cherishing life's little moments and the significance of strong bonds with loved ones.
As a family-friendly movie, Bawaal proves to be a wholesome and enjoyable experience for viewers of all ages. Its positive message and feel-good factor leave a happy feeling at the end, resonating with those who appreciate sincere storytelling that touches the heart.
Babylon (2022)
An Outstanding Tribute to the Cinematic Evolution
Babylon stands as a remarkable masterpiece, paying homage to the exhilarating and pivotal era of filmmaking in the first half of the 20th century. The film skillfully captures the tumultuous journey of the cinematic world, shedding light on its struggles, addictions, discriminations, evolutions, and the lives of those deeply immersed in it. This tragic yet authentic portrayal evokes a whirlwind of emotions, delivering both tears and joy simultaneously in a spectacle rarely achieved in cinema.
The movie emerges as a true work of art, resonating deeply with anyone passionately involved in the film industry, be it creators or audience. It's an unforgettable experience that should not be missed by those who hold a genuine love for the cinema. Babylon succeeds in transporting its viewers to the past, where every detail of mid-20th-century cinematic life is brought to life on the screen in a commendable and applause-worthy manner.
The acting performances in Babylon are nothing short of extraordinary. Each actor shines brilliantly, earning a solid 10/10 for their portrayals. A special mention must be made for Diego Calva, whose performance was nothing short of perfection, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
The cinematography skillfully captures the essence of the era, enveloping the audience in a visually mesmerizing journey through time. The portrayal of the mid-20th-century cinematic world is truly praiseworthy, effortlessly immersing viewers in the world of filmmaking and its trials and triumphs.
While Babylon excels in most aspects, there were a few moments that could have been streamlined to enhance the overall pacing. The prolonged depictions of raving and partying related to Hollywood, though relevant to the time, occasionally felt dragged out. Trimming these scenes would have made the movie even more impactful and polished, perhaps shaving off 15-20 minutes from the runtime.
In conclusion, Babylon is an extraordinary tribute to the evolution of cinema, painting a vivid and heartfelt portrait of a bygone era. Its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions, along with impeccable acting, cinematography, and attention to detail, makes it a true gem. While some scenes could have been trimmed for a smoother experience, the core message of the movie remains powerful and resonant: being part of something great, like cinema itself, is what truly matters.
Cold Skin (2017)
A Cinematographic Marvel Hindered by Disconnected Theme
Cold Skin presents a visually stunning experience with its exceptional cinematography, deserving applause for the remarkable efforts in that department. However, the film fails to captivate beyond its visuals, leaving me unimpressed with its overall execution.
The movie attempts to incorporate a metaphorical exploration of colonization, but this aspect didn't resonate with me. While some viewers might find the metaphor intriguing, I found it disconnected and lacking impact. The metaphorical layer seemed to struggle in making a meaningful connection with the story, resulting in an underwhelming and unsatisfying narrative.
The real story's transition into a sci-fi setting was jarring and felt forced, leaving me struggling to reconcile the two seemingly disparate elements. The sudden introduction of a war with amphibious creatures felt unnecessary and did little to advance the plot in a coherent manner. This creative choice left me questioning the film's direction, and the lack of a clear and cohesive storyline diminished my overall enjoyment.
Despite the shortcomings in storytelling, the film's visual presentation stands out as its strongest aspect. The cinematography beautifully captures the stark and remote setting, immersing viewers in a visually arresting experience. It's clear that the filmmakers put considerable effort into creating a visually captivating world, which is commendable.
While Cold Skin did not resonate with me, I understand that film preferences are subjective, and others may find merit in its unique blend of themes and visuals. I respect that some viewers might appreciate the metaphorical exploration and the sci-fi elements, finding them compelling and thought-provoking.
In conclusion, Cold Skin boasts impressive cinematography that deserves recognition, but unfortunately, the film's disjointed themes and narrative left me underwhelmed. The attempted metaphor of colonization and the introduction of sci-fi elements did not mesh well, making the movie feel disconnected and lacking a clear direction. While I may not have enjoyed it, it's entirely possible that others might find value in its distinct approach.
Code 8 (2019)
An Average Sci-Fi Flick with Familiar Themes
CODE 8 offers a mix of science fiction elements, but unfortunately, it fails to leave a lasting impact. The film centers around an innocent man with special powers, who finds himself drawn into a world of crime in order to support his mother. While it manages to deliver a few emotional moments and moments of self-realization, it ultimately succumbs to clichés that make it feel less original.
The movie's central theme of a regular person with extraordinary abilities is nothing new in the sci-fi genre. While it has potential to explore intriguing concepts, CODE 8 settles into familiar tropes that have been seen in numerous films before. The plot follows a predictable path, and the story lacks the depth and complexity needed to truly engage the audience.
Although the movie attempts to evoke emotions through the protagonist's love for his mother, these sentimental moments are somewhat generic and lack the emotional punch required to make them truly memorable. The characters don't receive enough development, making it difficult to become invested in their journeys or decisions.
There are sporadic moments of self-discovery and epiphany, which add a touch of depth to the film. However, these instances are overshadowed by the overall lack of substance in the story. The potential for exploring the moral dilemmas of using one's powers for personal gain is underutilized, leaving viewers craving more profound explorations of the protagonist's internal conflict.
While CODE 8 manages to deliver some entertaining action sequences and showcases impressive visual effects, it struggles to rise above the mediocrity that plagues many similar sci-fi films. Its reliance on clichés and a lack of originality hinder its ability to stand out in a crowded genre.
In conclusion, CODE 8 can be described as a run-of-the-mill sci-fi flick that fails to offer much that hasn't been seen before. Despite a few emotional moments and instances of self-realization, it lacks the substance and creativity needed to elevate it to a memorable cinematic experience. If you're a fan of straightforward sci-fi action and don't mind predictable plots, it may provide some entertainment, but don't expect it to be a groundbreaking addition to the genre.
Jogira Sara Ra Ra (2023)
Non-sensical!
Jogira Sara Ra Ra, unfortunately, falls flat on multiple levels, leaving viewers perplexed and unengaged throughout its runtime. Despite featuring talented actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the film's weak and absurd plot proves to be its ultimate downfall.
One of the most glaring issues with Jogira Sara Ra Ra is the lack of a cohesive and meaningful narrative. The movie meanders aimlessly, with events unfolding without any clear purpose or direction. It becomes increasingly challenging to invest in the story when things happen seemingly without reason or logic. The absence of a well-defined plot makes it difficult for the audience to connect with the characters or feel any emotional investment.
Ultimately, Jogira Sara Ra Ra proves to be a forgettable movie experience, leaving viewers questioning the purpose and value of the time they invested in watching it. With no meaningful plot, a disconnected portrayal of reality, and illogical events unfolding without reason, the film falls short of delivering an engaging and satisfying cinematic experience.
Before I Fall (2017)
Time Loop movie with Sensible Ending
Before I Fall, released prior to Happy Death Day and Edge of Tomorrow, can be seen as the original version of the concept where the protagonist wakes up repeatedly to relive the same day. This adaptation of the novel of the same name offers a nice take on the idea.
The narration in Before I Fall is clear and engaging, ensuring that the story doesn't become tiresome. The acting by the protagonist is commendable, adding depth to the character and enhancing the overall viewing experience. While it may not be as light-hearted as Happy Death Day, the film still manages to incorporate heartwarming scenes and scenarios.
Overall, Before I Fall is a good choice if you're seeking a movie that is entertaining. It provides a thought-provoking exploration of the time loop concept while also delivering moments that tug at the heartstrings. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this captivating film.
Vivarium (2019)
A Frustrating Misfire with Missed Potential
While 'Vivarium' initially grabs your attention, it ultimately falls short, leaving you with a sense of pointlessness. The film requires patience, as it slowly unfolds its cynical allegory of suburban life. However, it fails to fully connect with the surface-level aspects of the story, leaving the metaphor feeling shallow.
The plot's execution is poorly defined, lacking relevance and failing to offer any significant developments. The film's nihilistic tone is on full display, but it doesn't effectively utilize it to create fear or provoke thought. Instead, it becomes repetitive, meandering in circles without delivering substantial twists or engaging narrative progress.
One could argue that the characters' boredom is meant to be reflected in the audience, but that doesn't excuse the film's failure to provide an intriguing and captivating experience. Despite its elusive blend of the mundane and otherworldly, 'Vivarium' falls short of its potential, leaving you with a sense of wasted time.
Additionally, the film features an irritating child character, which adds to the frustration rather than contributing to a genuinely unsettling atmosphere. It's a missed opportunity in a film that had the potential for so much more.
In summary, 'Vivarium' is a disappointing endeavor. While it may momentarily hold your attention and boasts technical competence, it ultimately leaves you feeling unfulfilled. Its shortcomings and missed potential make it difficult to wholeheartedly recommend.
In Time (2011)
Enjoyable Ride, Not perfectly executed though.
In Time delivers an enjoyable and engaging experience that keeps you entertained from start to finish. The fictional plot adds an intriguing layer to the storyline, offering a refreshing twist on the concept of time. The acting performances are solid, contributing to the overall enjoyment of the film.
While In Time may not reach the heights of greatness, it succeeds in providing a satisfying and entertaining viewing experience. It's a film that ensures you won't be bored, offering thrilling moments that keep you engaged throughout. Sometimes, that's all you need for a good watch. In Time may not be a groundbreaking masterpiece, but it delivers on its promise of entertainment.
Kol (2020)
Promising start, forgettable climax
The Call, a Korean thriller, begins with a unique premise that immediately piques curiosity and draws viewers in. As the movie progresses through its first half, it promises an intriguing and suspenseful experience. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes evident that the film falls into a repetitive and monotonous cat-and-mouse chase that fails to captivate.
While the initial premise holds great potential, the overall plot and climax of The Call do not live up to expectations. The film could have taken a different path and offered a more satisfying conclusion. Nonetheless, the acting performances are noteworthy, as is often the case with Korean actors, bringing depth and intensity to their roles. The direction and cinematography are solid, though the movie suffers from unexplained narrative events that occasionally leave the audience confused.
In the end, The Call can be seen as a decent thriller, but it lacks the lasting impact and memorable moments that distinguish exceptional films in the genre. While it starts off with promise, it ultimately falls short in execution. It is an enjoyable watch for fans of the genre, but not something that will linger in your memory for long.
