Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Excellent finale, but overall it needs improvement
I have to say, I originally gave this show a 5/10, but this final episode changed my opinion. This show is by no means perfect. The things I said in the past how it focused on being a Leia rescue mission, not enough action scenes in the middle, made Obi Wan a side character for much of the show still stand. However, the ending was very emotional and saddening. You see Anakin hiding under the mask after the final duel, showing he is not the totally evil Vader persona he portrays from the outside but is in fact the same, broken, conflicted, corrupted young man from Revenge of the Sith. It was the same level sadness what happened to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. This had a very good opening & closure. If there is a Season 2, I hope the writers actually listen to the fans and audience's respectful criticisms this time, moving forward.
Jurassic World: Dominion (2022)
The nostalgia!
I'm sad this series will be over now. The inclusion of the original cast (Laura Dern, Sam Neil, Jeff Goldblum) is very well implemented! I feel as long as this movie was, it felt like it was too short somehow. I did enjoy it overall and think most fans of the series will too.
The Batman (2022)
Best Batman film in 10 years
I was not having high expectations initially coming in because of how bad Batman vs Superman was. I was very pleasantly surprised how good this film was. The Riddler was a sadistic, crazy villain, much like the Joker, in his own way. I really thought this film was very dark. There were times I felt like I was watching a Rated R Batman. Hats off to Robert Pattinson on his take of Batman. It was very enjoyable to watch and I can't wait to see what the sequels hold!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
I cried watching 😢
This was one of the best Spider-Man films. I honestly thought it had a lot of great action scenes and storyline. I thought the part where Tobey's Peter Parker and Dr Octavius reunite was very touching. It was like a father and son moment where they hadn't seen each other in almost 20 years. Definitely made me tear up. Great film!
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
It's ok
I grew up watching this film so I feel it has a certain place in my childhood. However, after watching the Netflix show and re-examining the books, I've realized how very different this movie was. My biggest complaint is everyone who loved this film gave Jim Carrey such positive remarks on his performance as Count Olaf. The book's Count Olaf was much more sinister and evil, with a slight dry sense of humor. Carrey's Count Olaf was way too goofy compared to the book. I think the Netflix version of the show is more faithful to the books. I'm not saying this is a bad film, but just remember the ones who keep saying this was "such a funny film" didn't read the books at all. It isn't supposed to be a goofy comedy that Jim Carrey provided, and I mean that with no disrespect to him as an actor. He was just not the right person to accurately portray Count Olaf.
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017)
Love this series!
I've actually recently started watching this series, and am very much enjoying it! I like Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf much more than Jim Carrey. No disrespect to Jim Carrey, but his Count Olaf was way too goofy. Jim Carrey's Count Olaf costume was spot on, but very goofy compared to the books. Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf is much closer to the book's version, much more sinister and more evil. I think this series works much better as a TV series. I also love the opening song, very catchy!
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
A placeholder film
This movie is very short, and yet feels longer than it is. It showcases a fair amount of action scenes with Venom and Carnage, but unfortunately, Carnage is killed at the end. The movie was clearly set up as a placeholder movie until we get to see Spider-Man go against Venom, as we see in the post-credit scenes. It's definitely worth a watch, just know what you're going to get from a film that clocks in around an hour and a half.
Swamp People: Serpent Invasion (2020)
Entertaining
Another hit from History Channel. I've always liked the original Swamp People, so naturally I was intrigued by this program. I just got into it and it is entertaining and interesting in learning about the Burmese snakes in Florida.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Horrible
Rian Johnson destroyed the sequel trilogy. He literally ruined it. There was no character development in this mess of a movie and we never saw the lightsaber duel we all wanted with Kylo Ren vs Luke. The one star that this film gets from me goes only towards John Williams. He makes beautiful music in every movie he's been involved with.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Much better than what the reviewers say
Ignore the Critics. This is a great Star Wars film. Obviously, like all movies, there are some flaws, but this is up there with Revenge of the Sith as one of my favorite Star Wars movies.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Better than I expected
I would give this higher than a 7 but less than an 8. It was honestly better than I was expecting considering I hated The Last Jedi. It does take some time getting used to with Alden Ehrenreich as Solo because I visually don't think he looks like a younger Harrison Ford, but it works. It's a solid film but I didn't understand how Darth Maul appeared as the main hidden villain at the end. It sets itself up for a sequel because it leaves unanswered questions. I would go see this film because it does answer how that backstory of how Lando and Han came to be. Overall, not bad.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)
Not worth it unless you are a fan
Where do I begin? The Hobbit series has gotten mediocre. The beginning portion really made me angry. Smaug's destruction of Laketown was extremely short. They could have done so much more to this portion of the movie, and made Smaug have more dialogue, but sadly it wasn't. Smaug was literally killed within the first 5 minutes of the film. Not only that, the way he was killed was very ridiculous. Bard uses his son as his bow to kill the dragon. Smaug's death sequence was also laughable. Moving forward, the battle itself was not that bad, but once again, they made Legolas, who isn't even supposed to be in the film to begin with, do ridiculous moves while fighting. I'll be honest though, as much as people hated the love shown between Tauriel and Kili, I actually liked the addition. While I didn't like most of the film, I will tell you, it is definitely a tear jerker. After seeing the deaths of Fili, Kili, and Thorin, I actually cried a bit. Also, the scene of Bilbo and Gandalf returning to the shire could have been much better. At the end of the book, Gandalf and Balin return a few years later to check up on Bilbo, but in this film, it is nonexistent. In conclusion: Is this film worth seeing? It depends. If you are one who liked the previous Hobbit films, then it is about the same as those. But if you are like me, who liked the book better, than I would honestly skip it.
