Saawariya (2007)
My thoughts on Saawariya
I was really excited about Saawariya when I first heard about it, but then my enthusiasm waned when I saw the promos for OSO. I wasn't expecting much from Saawriya, the promos looked so exaggerated. I went into the 2.30 session, with my sisters, and we were the only ones there!
The movie does not drag on. It is well paced. The sets are beautiful, but it's so dark and gloomy, and after a while you start missing daylight. The songs are picturised nicely, but because the movie is 2.5 hours, i don't think any of the songs are the complete track. Just bits and pieces.
Ranbirs exaggerated facial expressions suit his character. Its not a case of bad acting, its just how his character is. The characters in most SLB movies are usually out of this world...a little larger than life. Sonam cries and laughs too much, other than that she doesn't do much. She is very pretty. Rani is gorgeous. And oozes charisma. Salman...(this coming from a huge fan) I'm slightly disappointed. Anyone could have played his part. Nothing out of the ordinary. For once he is restrained and doesn't overact because he doesn't have much of a character. I give it 8/10. PS The flash of Ranbirs bum is done in good taste...and he's actually kinda cute!
Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007)
If Only I was 10 years younger...
If I was 10 years younger
I'd be 9 years old. And Tara Rum Pum Pum would have probably been my favourite movie. Seen from a kids point of view, this movie is squeaky clean. Perfect for young families. Saif and Rani are easily likable . The first half doesn't have much to offer, just the usual bollywood 'falling in love' story. Saif looks cool, but I wish he had some funnier lines. Rani is cute. I missed seeing her in such short skirts, however some people will say she's too old. I prefer Rani wearing these kind of clothes than Aishwariya (Dhoom2). Her character is cute too. In the second half, they become the responsible parents, and you can see the changes in their character, clothes, etc. The kids are gorgeous but did they seriously name their kids Princess and Champ? That's the kind of name you give a dog...come to think of it, their dog was names Bruno
heaps better than Champion. The story improves in second half. Its nice to see Saif and Rani working with kids. The movies tries to teach you a lesson
its OK to be 'kanjuice' cos who knows when you'll need money. The songs are extremely watchable, but not exactly hummable. It's a movie for the mummies and daddies to take their kiddies along too
everyone over the age of 12 will probably be bored crazy. And I wonder what happened to Rusty
Namastey London (2007)
better than humko deewana kargaye at least
I'm not sure why I went to watch this. I'm not a fan of Akshays, and the songs weren't that great either. the only plus factors were Katrina and Upen I took my friend to watch this with me, her first Bollywood movie in the cinemas. I warned her and explained that this movie is trying to be patriotic, which means for Indian, putting down everyone else to make themselves look good. There were some things that were just stupid...Prince Charles? Right...and Charlie Brown. Why not Peter Smith or something...why Charlie Brown? Why was Katrinas voice dubbed in American accent? And Upen has such a sexy British accent in really life...and yet his voice was dubbed too. It's not really an Akshay Kumar movie, it's more of a Katrina movie. As for Upen, while I like him, his little story was just a waste. The movie was visually pleasing, but you'd wish you were deaf, the duologue's are terribly clichéd. So watch it for the beautiful people, location and clothes and well choreographed songs.
Salaam-E-Ishq (2007)
Disappointing
I was really looking forward to this movie, watched all the promos, knew the songs by heart, had my tickets booked, seats reserved, 2nd show first day.
It started off well, it starts off with John and Vidya. For once I liked John, he even looked cute. But as the movie dragged on, it got too emotional, but I couldn't find a emotional connection with the stories.
They make a sweet pair. Akshaye and Ayeshas story was funny. Sohail n Isha only get 3 scenes...they don't have much to say...I thought sohail was funny...a extension to his Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya character.
Salman for once doesn't look tired, he doesn't have dark eyes. he light up the screen, he's looking awesome. He doesn't have a loud annoying character, and he doesn't give that 'giggle' in this movie either. A good performance from him, though he didn't have much to do.
Anil Kapoors character seemed odd. he shaves off his mustache, and he looks disgusting sorry to say. his dance sequence (whats that about?) And i'm disappointed Juhi forgave him. Be strong woman! say no. Once a cheater, always a cheater.
Govindas character was so sweet. And shannon was pretty. They made a good pair. Usually foreigners are annoying in Indian movies, but not her. What ruined this movie for me was it got boring. The dialogue's too lengthy towards the end. The whole scene with Anil and Priyanka wasn't necessary and the dot-com Punjabi guy was just annoying. Priyankas character, Khamini, was a little too similar to Aishwaryas in Dhoom2. Only in the sense they refer to themselves by their name, in 2nd person (or is it 3rd?)
The songs were well picturised, but one of my favourite songs was missing. I saw the promos of it and it was looking cute. "mera dil" wasn't in the movie.
Watch it for the stars, not for the characters, watch it for the songs. But if you were as excited as I was, than a disappointment awaits you.
