The hosts of this show truly know their stuff when it comes to the game of football. The segments and entertainment value of this are second to none and is the best listen early in the morning. My love for football has continued to explode since watching this show and they do an excellent job.

The Rich Eisen Show (2014– )

One of the best
1 July 2021
I just started listening to this show recently, but I never realized how good of an interviewer Rich Eisen was. He always has on an excellent group of guests and brings a unique spin to his own takes. His work with the NFL Network is also amazing to listen to and I highly recommend watching him on both platforms.

Dan Patrick is the goat of interviewing. His ability to personally relate and dive in deep with his guests is what makes him great. He always has on excellent guests and is as well versed as any in the business. This is the show to listen to.

Hoosiers (1986)

Greatest sports movie of my life
30 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched this movie several times and I always come away with a smile on my face. This movie is a great example, of what some college and high school coaches go through today. College coaches often take a year or two to implement their system and style of coaching. It oftentimes does not lead to wins right away, but building a winning culture takes time and this was on display in the movie. Gene hackman was sensational and really captured the adversity his character went through as the head coach of Hickory. The whole town was against his vision for the game and how he wanted the team to play. Even his team did not buy in until their best player returned to the team. This is another example of an excellent underdog story based on true events. While this movie does not have the fanfare of other excellent sports movies such as Remember the Titans, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Rocky, or Rudy, it deserves it. All of the movies listed above I have seen and I loved all of them, but there is something about Hoosiers that resonated with me on a personal level. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who has not seen it and this movie is truly an inspiration to underdogs everywhere that anything is possible.

Best duo in the sports talk industry
30 June 2021
While Skip Bayless may have really bad takes and can be biased towards specific teams and players, he is misunderstood and not appreciated for he has done for the sports talk show industry. While this show often focuses mostly on Lebron James, the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Brady, and the New England Patriots I understand why because these teams and athletes generate the highest ratings due to their popularity. Shannon Sharpe is the complete opposite of Bayless when it comes to all of the topics above which leads to lively debates. Despite the main focus being on a select few teams and athletes, the best part of this show comes after the Super Bowl as the show opens up to many more topics on the NBA, the NFL offseason, and societal topics that intertwine with sports.

Sharpe is one of the best hires a network has ever made. He has great quotes from his grandparents and stories from his Hall of Fame playing days in the NFL. His energy is contagious and is always prepared for every topic. He is quite simply fantastic at what he does. This show is not for everyone, but the personalities and lively debates make up for any shortcomings making this show a great watch and listen.

The Herd (2015– )

Best in the business
30 June 2021
Colin Cowherd is one of the best sports personalities in the industry. One of the greatest things Cowherd brings is his incredible analogies and insightful analysis on many sports topics. His guests are insightful and bring much needed perspective to some of Cowherds most debatable takes. While I do not always agree with him, I respect his positions and understand his perspective based on the data he presents.

Cowherd has a great sense of humor and has moved the needle when it comes to sports talk shows. His ability to build relationships is evident as he brings on a very diverse set of guests on a daily basis. The greatest thing Colin has done is his ability to be creative when creating specific segments such as "Dame or Deal, Blazin 5, weekly Herd Hierarchy, Where Colin was right/wrong." Despite Cowherd flip flopping on certain takes and changing the narrative to try and make people forget what he said just recently on the same topic, he is the best of the best and I am glad to listen daily.

Interesting but disappointing
30 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When I was a freshman in high school, this story took over the news for months and I remember this case vividly. While I did not remember the initial ruling, I assumed he would be guilty. I learned a great amount about Oscar Pistorius, the history of violence against women in South Africa, and the warning signs that eventually led to the tragic murder. For a documentary of this nature going back to the beginning and looking at the buildup to the trial is important for context and perspective, but none the less the production team needed to give more footage in the moment. I felt that the documentary was more focused on his athletic accomplishments, overcoming adversity, and the many relationships he had throughout his life. While these points are part of his life it overshadowed the most important part of the documentary in the trial. From a production standpoint, many of his life events could have been skipped over or condensed. For example, his childhood and teenage years took up too much time rather than focusing more on his violent tendencies and personality. Those things were talked about, but not as in depth as it should have been. It felt like the trial part of the documentary was more about footage of international news reporters giving updates before, during and after the trial rather than the actual trial itself.

My first 30 for 30
30 June 2021
This was the first ESPN 30 for 30 I watched and it was amazing, particularly learning about one of the best nicknames in sports history "Cardiac Pack". This is the ultimate underdog story and is truly inspiring, especially learning about the most unorthodox coach of all time in Jim Valvano. My love for March Madness had already been growing, but this documentary took my love for the sport to all new heights. This documentary proves that in sports, teams do not win on paper, but on the field or court. That is a valuable lesson for sports teams at all levels.

The best sports documentary I have ever seen
29 June 2021
Having spent much of my life following the NBA, and involved in media production, I view The Last Dance as the best sports documentary ever, for a variety of reasons. The dramatic subject matter, the incredible story, the personality of Michael Jordan, articulating the transformation of the NBA and the world of sports, and the high value production quality set this documentary apart and above from all others.
