Reminded me of #LIKE
30 April 2023
Reminded me of the movie #LIKE, In a good way, a smart relevant thriller with great performances!! I love a slow burn with an intelligent POV , no shortcuts were taken and it eerily edged up the tension. By the climax of the film I was all in the supporting actress who played one of the students of the lead was fantastic also - the dark tone of Berlin seeped into every pore of this movie and it was completely believable at no poindid I feel "no this could never happen"step-by-step step beat by beat it was brilliantly constructed by the writer & director.... I'm struggling to say more with out adding spoilers!

A Quirky Anti-Romantic Comedy.

I am not usually the audience for Rom Coms but this one was a little different, the writing and directing had an Indie feel, which I love, and the production values were really satisfying, fantastic score/music choices, and charming cast. And fun to see London!

under-seen gem of a movie

This film seemed to has passed me by when it was released - I highly recomend it to watch Matt Dillon and Naomi Watts work both FANtastic in this move - amazing writing and direction, why did this film come and go so quickly a real tragedy - but hey watch it now and be in-the -know ;)

#LIKE and PYW are in the same Wheelhouse

#LIKE, Is a micro budget movie, more drama/horror skew, not comedy, but all about (!) the revenge women crave.

I have been following the the debate about the fired film critic - who I think wrote for The Hollywood Reporter - He said Mulligan wasn't pretty enough to play this role, for a 'honey trap' movie - and when she pushed back there was discussion on all sides about how she used her 'fame/power' to get a poor critic fired, but what is she supposed to do? Remain silent? Anyway, the meta argument about that mirrors what goes on in the film - should women saty silent or should they vent their rage...

It was so satisfying to watch both these films, seeing angry , imperfect young women kicking ass and taking names!!

Feminist Action Thriller

It is dark, has many twists, and is a slow burn, and you will be paid off by all the performances, sit back and go for a great ride!

Not only well made but vital viewing!
14 February 2021
Wow this is a very engaging and enlightening film by Deirdre Fishel dealing with complex issues around policing with the backdrop of the Minneapolis Police dept. The doc was shot during the period just before and after the George Floyd's murder. I suggest you watch it to be a part of the bigger conversation about policing, how we can support law enforcement officers AND support communities impacted by police misconduct. The film talks about the way Female officers work with communities differently than their male counterparts, it is not only well made but vital viewing.

I saw Like, it was really, really good
28 January 2021
I saw Like, it was really, really good , kinda like the much more grim Blue Velvet/Breaking Bad-esque answer to the school of thought/feminism in that movie "Promising Young Woman" currently out now...it's funny how the death of the main character's sister, in an eccentric/interesting way, ends up not truly being what the film at large is about, it's more about what the horrors are of working so hard to be part of such a messed-up/biased/ignorant culture that has so many people perishing and suffering within it in ways people ignore, but yet also aggressively fight against that culture at the same time in a way no one knows about

, heh, but yet what more can u really do in this day and age? I feel like the bond between the girl and this guy she takes hostage kinda goes beyond Stockholm Syndrome in that way, that they both kinda recognize that in a way that goes beyond the "Did he or didn't he" question...but then, of course, she gets plunged back into her despair all over again in the end, heh, that's what really makes it a film noir, which I love

...great work!

Well told and emotional!

Warning: Spoilers
I highly recommend this film made by a dedicated crew. Very important topic!!! Police misconduct effects us all. I loved watching this well told story - the men and women who walk the streets keeping our officers on the straight and narrow are modern day heroes. I highly recommend this watchable import and documentary.

Care (I) (2016)

Moving and important
30 November 2016
This documentary is a great examination of the tough lives care workers have and the difficulties faced by the people who need their care. Really moving and engaging. If you are older or have a parent or grandparent, or are a disabled Vet or have someone in your family with disabilities facing this crisis you will be riveted - we need to figure out what to do with our aging population and how to support our care workers who are underpaid - often untrained and sadly also often undocumented - at the risk of deportation or estranged from their own families - the director presents us with a heart wrenching dilemma. It's not depressing , it's enlightening and it's EXCELLENT.
