Ali Wong: Don Wong (2022)
I like Ali, but this was bad
I couldn't make it through the special. I loved her other specials, but this was a bad set. Neither my wife or I laughed one time and we could only make it half way through. Now that she is rich and famous she tells jokes which aren't very relatable or make very much sense. Going down on you is a privilege since you are famous is somehow suppose to be funny? Her cadence has also gone way too extreme. She seems like she is a playing a character of herself. From the screaming, crouching to the voice she makes pulling her face back she has a cartoonish stage presence.
Travels By Narrowboat (2018)
Death by Narrow Boat Boredom
I was recommended this by my brother, who I now figure hates my guts or is somehow out for some petty revenge after getting me to watch this. I'm five episodes in and I still haven't seen the whole inside of the boat. I also had to look up why these canals exist, how old they are, and what was their original purpose. Would have been nice to get that info. The most riveting suspense you get is when he has to travel through a tunnel and god forbid if there's a boat coming the other way. The SUSPENSE THE HORROR. The main character and only character seems like and nice and pleasant gentleman. You would be friends with him, but he's not interesting enough for TV. Maybe he has a bob ross type of vibe, but it doesn't work for me. hopefully they gave him enough money to get a real boat. I want to thank him for suffering through putting around 4mph/6.5kmph barely walking speed to let us all know this is a terrible life style. I saw many people walking faster than the boat thinking to themselves I'm glad I have a wife that wouldn't let me do that. For reference the guy got divorced and decided this was the boring life he wanted to live. Moving along at the speed of smell through English drain ditches, filth, and hearing that god awful Diesel engine all darn day lets us all know we don't need to suffer. You suffered for all of us through the plain rural English country side and I suffered for you so please don't watch.
Bird Box (2018)
Wanted to Hate, found a Thrilling Watch
I wanted to hate this film because of all the hype. So many moments where I was holding my hands to my face in fear of watching something too gruesome to bare. I appreciated how they avoided graphic violence at alot of moments. I found the concept of the film very intriguing and compelling. Some of the questions people have complained about, like why some people can be infected was perfectly answered. Some questions were left unaswered like the origin behind the monster, but that's fine with me. The way they showed the monster reminded me a lot of the black smoke in lost, with a different twist and you do get somewhat of an image of it. Sandra did an excellent job playing her part, Malkovich played his part a little over the top, and Machine Gun Kelly's part was useless all the other actors did a great job. I had a blast watching this film and didn't ever get board. Continuous thrills! I had minor qualms, like Sanda being too old to have a baby, how she had a continuous supply of makeup, and the ending was a little too story book for me (btw the ending is not like the novel which I prefer, but is not as happy), but my minor qualms didn't prevent me from enjoying the movie. Hopefully all the haters get a sequel Birdbox origin story so they can have all of their questions answered. Bottom line if you have to have all your answers spelled out or answered for you and some minor flaws in believability bother you don't watch this. If not I think you'll have fun watching this.
