Only Murders in the Building (2021)
No please don't watch
Let's be honest, trying too hard to be funny always flops, The two old guys were well written, the girl was meh-bel.
I'm familiar with Selena's acting so it was no surprise that it was mild and underwhelming. I had guessed all the plot twists maybe 3 episodes in.
Kinda insufferable.
Those people that like watching romance kdramas will probably enjoy this, because it is a very feel good show.
And now, who wants a feel good, thriller? We want a mind**** thriller.
Aranyak (2021)
Legend of a half human half leopard, magic mushrooms and the classic Death, Murder, Mystery,
Oh The Sweet Sweet Glory of reviewing a show before anyone else has gotten the chance to watch it. With a sigh of relief I confirm that this web series is indeed, worth a watch!
Set in a cold, snowy town called Sironah, Netflix's latest Hindi show Aranyak tells the story of a murder. One dead French girl, the legend of a half human-half leopard and some magic mushrooms is what you're in for.
The series follows SHO Kasturi Dogra-who is due to go on a sabbatical-and her replacement Angad Malik-who comes weighed down by his own baggage-as they try to reverse engineer the night of Aimee Baptiste's death.
What results is an 8 episode binge-worthy thriller that keeps you at the edge of your seats, throwing one unsolved mystery after another at you.
Shershaah (2021)
Suboptimal like majority of Dharma Productions.
Bollywood mocks the Indian defence forces every time it makes a subpar/overly dramatic film with elements of romance and personal tragedy sprinkled on an already over-the-top story.
I firmly believe that Shershaah could have been the next Hacksaw Ridge, had the project not fallen into Dharma Productions' hands.
The filmmakers just could not set the tone for the film and the undue background music ruined the scenes.
Family conflict should have been gently delivered instead of Kiara's spasms of rage and disobedience//Sid's mom's extraordinary enthusiasm after finding out about her son's romantic pursuit.
A biopic need extra love and care, unfortunately Dharma Production( whose central focus is to perpetuate nepotism via plotless movies) is unable to provide. Case in point: Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.
Pretty Smart (2021)
its no young and hungry
It is insufferable but I can't stop what hing it. I wish they just made more seasons of young and hungry. All the characters are so shallow, who is this show's target audience?
Rogan Josh (2018)
Subtle
I remember watching it for the first time and immediately replaying it- simply to absorb the serenity of relevance. It haunts us not because it haunts us, it haunts us because we are haunted.
Devi (2020)
storytelling at its finest
To tell a story that carries-upon its shoulders-the weight of a mountain is not the work of an ordinary director. The film cushions the truth for the bigger part of the work before succumbing to its injuries.
Jaw dropping.
The Dollmaker (2017)
Yes. This is what I mean when I say 'I love horror'
Horror is a lot of things- scary, addictive, thrilling, etc. But horror is nothing if it's not subtle, if it's not brilliant, if it's not 'holly shit I did not see that coming.'
And this awe inducing tale of grief and repair is the most significant representation of brilliance in horror.
Hats off!
Little Willy (2020)
Bleh
Now look, I cannot deny great acting, where there is great acting. The lead actor's performance was breathtaking. The story though- it was a little stale.
Made in Heaven: All That Glitters is Gold (2019)
Bless my life with more of this!
Brilliant modern BTS of Indian weddings. It is my first rewatch of the series, since it first premiered and I' enjoying it as much as I did on the first watch, if not more.
Kota Factory (2019)
Too soon to tell in 5 episodes
Rating Kota Factory based on its first season is like rating a dish based on the first bite. What is it with 5 episode series, making us wait for years before coming up with something new?
Mimi (2021)
My eyes! My eyes! My eyes!
What a stupid movie. No Bollywood, we don't need a happy ending! Especially not, in a movie with a deep message and a moral dilemma. The movie did not stand out. The songs resembled just about any other lame Bollywood movie. Bhanu, Mimi, Shama we're all strong characters but the writers had to ruin it. Why? Why did the movie suddenly skip to four years later? One second we are watching a comical exchange between Bhanu and his (real) wife, the very next scene shows a grown up little boy getting bullied for being too white?
What's worse is that the story had potential. The movie had a great plot. It is sad to see Bollywood makers trade good writing/story telling for a few bucks. Stop taking great stories and turning them into feel good movies! We want unadulterated, unaltered, unfinished, unpolished-raw storytelling through our films not a.
It Chapter Two (2019)
I want my EUR 14 BACK!
Can't believe I spent 14 euros on the movie tickets. Perhaps it had something to do with my love for King, it was worse than just 'disappointing'
Castle Rock (2018)
Trash
A waste of time. I watched the whole show only to realize that the story was poorly tied together with ends so loose they couldn't come together.
Haseen Dillruba (2021)
Watchable, I guess-
The first hour of the movie is happy (well except the flashbacks), the story being told is so relatable that it is almost beautiful. The last half is quite predictable and chaotic, but as a whole the movie is a good one time watch.
American Horror Story (2011)
AHS: 1984
Godawful. I cannot believe someone thought this season would do justice to the series.
2 Broke Girls (2011)
Can't get enough!
Max's sarcasm, Caroline's annoying 'I went to Wharton' grows on you quickly! Their chemistry is undeniably, their zeal to succeed against all odds is almost inspiring.
Watch this show when you feel like a failure, you'll probably take solace in the fact that you're at least better that Caroline- who goes from being a Billionaire to living in Brooklyn. I don't know how long the comfort will last because at some point you will realize that the show is fiction.
Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 (2012)
Why do they cancel all the good shows!
I love her, and this show had so much potential! I'm sad they cancelled it. Why do shows with strong, unlikable female characters get cancelled so quickly? Example: insatiable! Santa Clarita Diet! Spinning Out! I Am Not Okay With This! The list is endless!
Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
so Never Have I Ever got a new season but Santa Clarita Diet didn't?
This is not your average zombie movie, how could it ever be? It's got Drew Barrymore! This show was vey enjoyable, that joy did get tarnished because Netflix cancelled it and left us hanging-
Never Have I Ever (2020)
Same old show but brown character plays the lead.
Brown girl lives in America. Despite living in the States for all of her life, she feels out of place, like she doesn't belong. Why? Because she is brown. Everyone feels like they don't belong in their in their teens. It's pretty clear that the show has been made to cater American-desi's. The show drops numerous cues, and goes out of its way to show that brown people have it harder than everyone else. They always have geeky friends who also don't belong. Take any other brown character from a popular series for example: Raj (tbbt), Dinesh(the Silicon Valley), Kelly(the office) (the list is endless!) the only difference here is that the brown character is the protagonist.
Friends (1994)
Is it worth the hype? Nope
But is it worth a watch? Yes, presuming that laugh tracks don't suffocate you. I watched this show in 2015 and enjoyed it, I have since tried re-watching the show, several times only to find the laugh tracks so undeniably annoying that I can't stand more than a few minutes. However, some credit has to be given to Matthew Perry for playing the most iconic character: Chandler. The only reason friends gets a seven star for me is because of Chandler-his dialogue delivery and his romantic endeavors (especially Kathy & Monica).
Contrary to popular belief, Aniston was not the 'star' of the show, she was-in my opinion-the least talented of the lot. I'd recommend the show to someone who is just moving on from Disney shows to adult sitcom.
Similar shows: that 70s show.
Gilmore Girls (2000)
Who else did not like Rory?
I remember watching the first episode and thinking, "wow, this is painfully below average." I don't know why I stuck with it, I think it was Lorelei, she was so charismatic, beautiful and funny-
The show becomes repetitive after a point, I ended up watching all nine seasons of HIMYM and five seasons of Breaking bad, after watching three seasons of GG.
In the starting I liked Rory but after she goes to college and royally ruins everything for herself, my dislike for her overpowers anything good about the show. I watched the show only for my forever ship: Luke and Lorelei, it was not worth it. I even watched the 'A year in life' for them, once again not worth it.
Would I recommend it? First four seasons yeah, maybe if you're desperate to watch something where every episode ends on a good note.
The only episode I liked was the one where Lorelei calls Luke, he doesn't pick up and she leaves a message referencing 'The Way We We're,' now make what you will-
Younger (2015)
TeamJake4eva!
I write this with a heavy heart, with TV Land's longest running scripted series coming to an end after seven seasons.
I love this show and I just made an IMDb account to express it, and I will do just that in the most flavourful way possible without screaming "YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THIS SHOW" in your face. But honestly, you've gotta watch it.
Over the span of seven seasons, the series explores how a small, harmless lie told to get a hot date could come back to haunt you. How it could devour you, just to see who you're willing to throw under the bus. It sounds dark but really isn't.
Don't get me started on the woeness of this show, LOVE IT!
Also, the fashion sense is pristine!
Awkward. (2011)
TeamMatty4eva!
Rewatched it four times! And will probably watch it again sometime soon. This is one of the shows I watch when life feels stagnant, not-so-dramatic!
I cannot believe this show ended the way it did, not disappointing, exactly but not hopeful either. I think it was a good ending for a show that ended out of nowhere.
I watched this when season 3 was just about to come out and re-watched it every year before a new season came out. In some ways this show defined my teen-years. I liked Tamara and Jake but out was Matty I loved every second of the show. Towards the end of the show I started disliking Jenna but that did not change my feelings for the show. This show comes highly recommended from me!
Other titles you may like if you liked Awkward:
-Younger (starring Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff) its got seven seasons and its fantastic!
-Young & Hungry (starring Lily from Hannah Montana asks Emily Osment) It has five seasons just like Awkward but leaves us with more hope than Awkward ever did.
